Today I took some Vit C caps and put them in my mortar and pestule and ground them fine. Added the "dust" to a cold cream and plan to use it on a spot I have that's extremely dry and cacky (?). Anyway, I've heard Vit C is a good exfolient for age spots etc., sort of like Vit A (Retin A). Got some wisdom you ladies would like to share?

I had a few age spots. They were about the size of a pencil eraser. They were from sun damage and nothing natural got rid of them. Believe me, I tried it all. I even got a prescription from my GP for Retin-A and it didn't help. I finally had to get a script from my dermatologist that worked. It was the big guns but I only had to use it for a very short while.

To be fair though, natural stuff just does not work for me for anything. Just 'the nature of the beast' I guess. I do take a multi vitamin every day (Centrum Silver Women) and a CoQ10 because I take a statin. I have no idea if they work or not. I don't feel any differently whether I take them or I don't. They are cheap so what the heck. The next time I get to Wal-Mart I want to get some chia seeds. They are supposed to be good for a lot of things especially blood pressure and cholesterol issues which are my main concern. I tried 2 bottles of Apple Cider Vinegar and saw zero results in any areas.

Supposedly, aspirin in some lemon juice is good for making a facial mask. Something about the salicylic (sp) acid in the aspirin and the vit.C acid. I don't know. I've never tried it. Others swear by it though. Oh that just reminded me, in my younger days I had 2 glycolic chemical peels. I forgot about those. I'm blue-eyed and have fair skin. She had to use the strongest solution she had on me. She couldn't hardly believe it. Things just don't work for me like they do for "normal" people.

If you have any health issues or if you take any meds please be sure to search for side effects and interactions OTC (even natural) can have on your body. Also, you can build up a tolerance to them too or they can have a cumulative effect. I know we all know that but just stating the obvious for any 'guests' reading.

Been awhile since anyone posted here but wanted to share our experience with you about Magnesium.  We've both started taking it every evening, and it's amazing what it does to not only relax you but relaxes your leg muscles.  No cramps since we started taking it.  Also, hubby's sleep apnea is drastically reduced.  No explanation, it just is reduced so that's good enough for us.  I know Magnesium is good for depression also so that's always good in the winter time.  I haven't been getting outside nearly enough and take some D once in awhile also.  We take a lot of vitamins and minerals, but not all of them every day.  We alternate them and it seems to work okay for us.

I set my vitamins and 2 RX's up a month ahead because I take a lot of vitamins also.  I rotate them too.  Quite a few, I take every other day so it saves on cost.  My step mom told me that none of them were doing me any good since I don't take them every day, but I disagree and have good lab reports.

I had trouble with bad leg cramps too, and looked into magnesium since it is considered a specific remedy for muscle cramps.  I discovered that some people have a higher than usual requirement for magnesium, sometimes situational, sometimes genetic.  So I started taking a little extra before bed.  No more cramps. Now it is part of my routine suoplement routine to take an extra magnesium pill before bed.  One of my doctors recommended quinine water for the cramps, but the active ingredient in it is (you guessed it) magnesium, and the pills are easier to find than quinine water.  So yes, it works.

Yes ma'amI see we read the same stuff.  Also calcium.  I recommended that to another police cadet with shin-splints, and it worked.  the trick for me was to get the balance correct for best absorption....twice as much calcium as magnesium, I think potassium was supposed to be in a particular ration too (have to go look that up, I wrote it down when I worked out my vitamin regimen).  The sodium-potassium balance has to be correct as well.  I notice I get occasional cramps when I eat too much salt and get the sodium-potassium ration out of whack.  Another reason for me to avoid processed foods.

GNC brand.  Potassium and Magnesium aspartate.  250mg of each.  Other ingredients: Gelatin and Cellulose.  No sodium.  I normally do not care for GNC, but this one is a 'home run'. I have been woken up with cramps and popped one, to go back to bed with no cramps.

I think it was the post I shared about forgetting to take the Magnesium and my toes cramping, so I quickly got out of bed, took the Magnesium, back to bed with my book and in 30 minutes I was okay.  We take 1000 mg. every night just before bedtime.  The ladies here probably read it anyway.  No problem MtR! :laughkick:

We had a female police cadet who was being told she would have to drop out because she was getting shin splints from the running.  I remembered that calcium was recommended for cramps in a book I had read and passed that info on, along with the suggestion she get one that had magnesium too (Adelle Davis had recommended half as much magnesium as calcium, so she started taking 1000 mg calcium with 500 mg magnesium and it solved her shin splints in a week.  I was surprised it worked so fast.  Don't know whether it was the calcium or magnesium or the combination but it worked.  (She graduated. )
