Ambergris
In parts of Asia, it is common to put blood type on job resumes and dating sites. I would be cautious about that data until I saw it compared to the frequency of those blood types in that locality. 1 Link to comment

dogmom4
The California state fair and county fairs were all cancelled weeks ago. In my county 4-h kids posted their livestock on social media to be auctioned off. I heard it was very successful. No July 4 although people have been shooting off fireworks for a couple weeks already....even though they’re illegal here. California governor has made it mandatory to wear masks as of last week because numbers have been rising because well...people want to do what they want to do. Honestly, I don’t know what compliance will be because there really isn’t any enforcement. In my county where we been doing so well with zero cases for days...that changed after the Memorial Day weekend when people had family barbecues with family from out of the county and didn’t wear masks. Our numbers have been steadily rising since then. I’m sure the other counties are too because partiers went back to their home counties with it. My concern is that the age numbers have been dropping. In the beginning the higher numbers were in the 70 and up range...now it seems to be in the 17-30 something range (in my county). But...maybe it’s not concerning. Maybe people who get it won’t have long term effects. Maybe they won’t spread it around to their older family members. Maybe, maybe, maybe. There’s enough maybes that we’re still being very cautious. 2 1 Link to comment
ANewMe
Last Thursday DS2 and his girlfriend went to stay at casino for her friend’s birthday. They got a text Friday telling them the “friend” and her boyfriend left the casino and went straight to be tested and was positive. Come to find out they had both been exposed and KNEW they had been exposed but she didn’t want to cancel her party and miss out on the fun. This mama has been livid! So our kids tested negative Saturday. My son went and retested yesterday bc he didn’t feel right....still negative. This morning he called me to his room at 5. Said something was wrong...chest hurt....shoulder and arm hurt (the same one he banged up in a car accident a couple weeks ago)...felt like he was going to throw up and was CRYING. Y’all he’s 21 and I don’t remember the last time he cried. So I’m sitting in ER parking lot now. I’m a nervous wreck. My husband is offshore and I don’t want to call him and freak him out until I know Something. Surely it’s not Corona if two rapid tests said negative right? 5 Link to comment

They won't test positive until it's had enough time to build up in their system to levels that the test can detect. I'd be a nervous wreck as well, and pissed as hell at the selfishness of their "friend". 4 Link to comment
Mt_Rider
AACK......ANewME!!! That's the idiocy and self-centeredness of younger folks. Awful to withhold that information. Could have AT LEAST been responsible enough to let others make their own choice. Terrible! for all those young folks, esp your ds2! CDC updated the comorbidity factors yesterday: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/need-extra-precautions/people-with-medical-conditions.html Some of this data is fine-tuning the original factors.....medical issues that complicate COVID response and make recovery much more difficult. They have added some things like Sickle Cell, Cystic Fibrosis, etc. With the fine-tuning, DH does not have the factors to the extent that they're now listing. ..... ....Still....he has a heart valve problem and diabetes, etc. Our county notches up every now and then. I keep an eye on it daily. Some states are reversing the latest parts of their re-openings. Don't think DH would be sad to go back on Unemployment. The restaurant is taking a lot of good steps for safety. Still.... Glad to hear the 4-H kids had a way to auction their livestock, Dogmom. They work very hard for that chance! Ambergris
Florida announced nearly 9,000 new daily coronavirus cases on Friday, breaking its previous record and sparking new concerns about a surge across the South. The dramatic growth of cases over the past month in Florida, and other states including Arizona and Texas, can be seen in internal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention maps obtained by Yahoo News. Those maps, part of the agency’s daily updates marked for internal use only, show that about one month ago many counties in Florida were depicted in blue, yellow and orange colors, indicating that they were in a downward trajectory for coronavirus cases. Now almost all of Florida is blanketed in red, indicating that those parts of the state are seeing no downward trend. The maps also show significantly fewer counties across the United States trending down now than there were a month ago. Florida’s Department of Health on Friday morning confirmed 8,942 new cases, nearly double the previous daily record, set on Wednesday. The case total in the state now stands at 122,960, with more than 3,400 deaths. About 81 percent of adult intensive care unit beds were full as of Wednesday. Rebekah Jones, the former supervisor for the state’s coronavirus data dashboard, was fired in May after claiming that her supervisors were attempting to make her manipulate data for political reasons. She claimed this week that Florida officials were continuing to twist data to make their response look better. When the Miami Herald asked Gov. Ron DeSantis about Jones’s claims this week, he said the newspaper was “chasing the conspiracy bandwagon.” On Friday morning, Halsey Beshears, secretary of the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation, announced that the state was prohibiting the drinking of alcohol at bars in an attempt to stop crowds from gathering. Portending this week’s news, a viral story earlier this month told of a Jacksonville woman and 15 of her friends who contracted the disease after gathering at a bar on June 6. “I think we were careless and we went out into a public place when we should not have. And we were not wearing masks. I think we had a whole ‘Out of sight, out of mind’ mentality. The state opens back up and said everybody was fine, so we took advantage of that,” said Erika Crisp, who works in health care. While the Palm Beach County commissioners voted to make mask wearing mandatory, a clip from their meeting went viral Wednesday showing citizens opposing masks by promoting wild conspiracy theories. COVID-19 Response Update on May 27, 2020. In May, Yahoo News reported on an internal Department of Homeland Security briefing that cited Palm Beach County as a potential emerging hot spot. Since that time, the virus has surged across the state. As the United States sees record highs for daily cases, there is positive news in that the death rate is declining, possibly reflecting the fact that many of the new patients are younger. But deaths lag new cases by several weeks to months, and there is a worrisome sign in the rise in cases requiring hospitalization. According to tracking numbers from Johns Hopkins University, the U.S. has had more than 124,000 deaths and 2.4 million positive cases, far more than any other nation. Jana Winter contributed reporting to this story. 4 Link to comment

Mt_Rider
Yesterday CO reported 11 new outbreaks. I've been recording since mid June on that one and it's usually between 0-5 outbreaks. Today there is 0. Actually, there is no new numbers for 6/27 so........ are they taking weekends off now? I think hospitalizations and outbreaks might be the important numbers to watch. As mentioned, deaths lag behind so it's hard to see cause/effect clearly. MtRider ....well, my life hasn't changed much...except DH's job. No bars or beaches for me..... ANewMe
Reports of hour long wait times in transferring patients from ambulance to hospital https://www.khou.com/mobile/article/news/health/coronavirus/houston-paramedics-report-hour-long-wait-times-to-transfer-patients-from-ambulance-to-hospital/285-8da201af-b157-4072-a5d6-52bf3838bd79 HOUSTON — Paramedics are running into often hour-long wait times when transferring patients from an ambulance to a hospital, Houston Fire Chief Sam Peña said Thursday. Peña said the department has been receiving a 20 percent higher call volume over the last three weeks, and that when paramedics arrive at the hospital with patients, the time it takes to get the person into the hospital is taking double or triple the normal amount of time. “The longer it takes us to service those critical calls, it is going to cost us in lives," Peña said. “Our system is getting strained.” He said at least 560 calls for service resulted in hour-long wait times or longer within the past three weeks, straining a department that is already short-handed by about 300 firefighters, with another 241 "out of service" due to either quarantine or positive COVID-19 tests. “We have 104 ambulances in the system, and we need each one of those to be as efficient as we can," Peña said. “What was taking 20, 30, 35 minutes, now has doubled in certain instances.” 4 Link to comment

The modern culture of Hawai'i in general is so SOCIAL. Lotta FAMILY. Probably this family in particular, are not as pleased about that visit. OTOH....if they don't open up for tourists pretty soon, so much will be lost. The ICU beds per capita is interesting. States with less population are coming out better on that one, in general.
