TheCG
Somebody posted this in another forum I'm in: https://www.dhs.gov/publication/st-master-question-list-covid-19 Updated July 7. Gave the link to the page that contains the PDF as the PDF link will change when they update it. Seems like a good source for information. Still going through it all. Going to add random quotes I find interesting to this post as I find them. Doesn't necessarily mean I agree with them. Bolding is probably mine. Blue is theirs. Quote Most symptomatic COVID-19 cases are mild (81%, n=44,000 cases).461 Initial COVID-19 symptoms include fever (87.9% overall, but only 44-52% present with fever initially),18, 184 cough (67.7%),184 fatigue, shortness of breath, headache, and reduced lymphocyte count.77, 84, 206 Chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, and loss of taste or smell378, 529 are also possible COVID-19 symptoms.77 The prevalence of GI symptoms varies.163 Neurological symptoms such as agitation,198 loss of coordination,317 and stroke474 may present with COVID-19, may be more common in severe cases,112 and neurological involvement (e.g., encephalitis) can be seen in brain tissue on autopsy.478 Ocular issues520 and skin lesions may also be symptoms of COVID-19.47 There are concerns that COVID-19 can lead to new-onset diabetes. Quote In a 35-year study of 10 men, immunity to seasonal coronaviruses tended to wane after one year, with reductions in circulating antibodies detectable within 6 months.137 Reinfection was observed between one and three years after initial infection.137 • Previous studies on coronavirus immunity suggest that neutralizing antibodies may wane after several years. Quote Deaths due to COVID-19 are underreported. In New York City, up to 5,293 (22%) of period-specific excess deaths are unexplained and could be related to the pandemic.362 More work is needed. COVID-19 related deaths in the US were likely underestimated by up to 35% in March through late April.510 Quote Modeling indicates that COVID-19 is likely to become endemic in the US population, with regular, periodic outbreaks, and that additional social or physical distancing measures may be required for several years to keep cases below critical care capacity in absence of a vaccine or effective therapeutic.239 Results depend on the duration of immunity after exposure. Quote SARS-CoV-2 can persist on surfaces for at least 3 days and on the surface of a surgical mask for up to 7 days depending on conditions. If aerosolized intentionally, SARS-CoV-2 is stable for at least several hours. The seasonality of COVID-19 transmission is unknown. SARS-CoV-2 on surfaces is inactivated rapidly with sunlight. Standard practice in our area is to keep your mask on your dashboard. I wonder if the windshield blocks the rays that inactivate it? Quote SARS-CoV-2 persists for less than 3 days within the pages of library books, and for less than 1 day on the exterior of book and DVD covers.2 Quote Experimental studies using SARS-CoV-2 aerosols (1.78-1.96 μm mass median aerodynamic diameter in artificial saliva matrix) found that simulated sunlight rapidly inactivates the virus, with 90% reductions in infectious concentration after 6 minutes in high-intensity sunlight (similar to mid-June) and 19 minutes in low-intensity sunlight (similar to early March or October).428 In dark conditions, the half-life of aerosolized SARS-CoV-2 is approximately 86 minutes in simulated saliva matrix.428 Humidity had no significant impact on aerosolized virus survival.428 Quote SARS-CoV-2 has an aerosol half-life of 2.7 hours (particles <5 μm, tested at 21-23°C and 65% RH).471 Research suggests SARS-CoV-2 retains infectivity as an aerosol for up to 16 hours in appropriate conditions (23°C, 53% RH, no sunlight).150 SARS-CoV-2 is susceptible to heat treatment (70°C) but can persist for at least two weeks at refrigerated temperatures (4°C).99, 393 SARS-CoV-2 genetic material (RNA) was detected in symptomatic and asymptomatic cruise ship passenger rooms up to 17 days after cabins were vacated. The infectiousness of this material is not known.345 Quote Oral antiseptic rinses used in pre-procedural rinses for dentistry containing povidone-iodine (PVP-I) are effective decontaminants of SARS-CoV-2, with 15-sec and 30-sec contact times completely inactivating SARS-CoV-2 at concentrations above 0.5% in lab tests.40 Quote A study suggests that P100 respirators with removable filter cartridges have similar filtration efficiency compared to N95 respirators and could plausibly be used if N95 respirators were in short supply. The study used an experimental setup with aerosolized simulant, not human testing.377 Particular care should be taken with “duckbill” N95 respirators, which may fail fit tests after repeated doffing.123 Dome- shaped N95 respirators also failed fit tests after extended use.123 Quote The efficacy of homemade PPE, made with T-shirts, bandanas, or similar materials, is less than standard PPE, but may offer some protection if no other options are available.102, 117, 399 The filtering efficiency of homemade mask materials is variable. Some non-standard materials (e.g., cotton, cotton hybrids) may be able to filter out >90% of simulant particles >0.3μm,242 while other materials (e.g., T-shirt, vacuum cleaner bag, towels) appear to have lower filtration efficacy (~35-62%).484 Of 42 homemade materials tested, the three with the greatest filtration efficiencies were layered cotton with raised visible fibers,541 though homemade materials were not as effective as surgical or N95 masks. Jeepers
Parts of Ohio (7 counties) says a mask is mandatory anywhere in public. So they set up a hotline to turn people in who aren't wearing one. This weekend over 500 calls came in turning in people in just in my county alone. Sigh. Reminds me of the old "See something, say something" days. Do people really just want to get other people in trouble? Are they just bored? Want to feel superior to someone? Do they think it's their patriotic duty? We are headed toward 1984 or Fahrenheit 451. Since this weekend Ohio has added 6 more counties to the mandated mask list. I 1 1 2 Link to comment

I The wording of the Governor's order in Texas makes it where people can make a strong case for masks not being mandatory as long as you can maintain the 6' distances. 3 Link to comment

Mt_Rider
FAHRENHEIT 451: The temperature at which book-paper catches fire and burns On 7/14/2020 at 8:40 AM, Jeepers said: Do people really just want to get other people in trouble? Are they just bored? Want to feel superior to someone? Do they think it's their patriotic duty? We are headed toward 1984 or Fahrenheit 451. Short answer: yes. All of the above. But there is also folks who are very afraid. I'm able to stay in due to health issues. Some must go out for essential reasons. [DH calls himself our "tribute" [Hunger Games] But he wears mask ...at work and elsewhere....and sanitizes hands when he gets back to car. I do wish the young ones would quit with the COVID parties, for pete's sake! There are only so many ICU beds and having a case of incurable stupid might disqualify you for the last bed! {No....I did not really say that, did I?} Hmph! We were all young and ignorant.....but some of us were not young and truly STUPID! OH....if you have King Soopers - now has mask requirement. Walmart and Sam's Club too. MtRider 1 Link to comment

I have felt like this for months and last night I dreamed about neighbors turning in suspected Jews in Nazi Germany. Everyone wants to blame everyone else and mandate what everyone else can do. "SHE shouldn't have been at X because Y...but I can go...." If you are that worried, wear a mask, stay home, and mace your family with chemicals as they enter the door. That being said, I'm doing my best to leave the house as little a possible...mostly because I don't like people and partially because I'd rather delay getting it until I'm not pregnant. I feel like this isn't going away ever and we will all get it eventually. 2 1 Link to comment

Mt_Rider
Our COLORADO Gov. kept saying......don't make me do it. Well actually, he literally said: Wear the d*mn masks around other people..... Today he made it law - wear the masks. But there are exceptions. Under 10 don't have to. Under 2 should not wear masks. Indoor facilities for the public. Not your private homes, etc. Indoor pools....wear on the deck but [of course] not while swimming - but those pools are still open. Outdoor activities....just keep a distance. If you have a medical issue, exempt from masks but try to distance. If you need to communicate [deaf, etc] you and ones you communicate with are exempt. I saw a translator for the deaf in a large clear mask in a news clip today....maybe we'll all do that eventually so we can see each other smile? I think all public speakers need to pull the mask down while behind a distanced podium....or wear a clear mask. Even for older folks who aren't aware of how much they rely on seeing the speaker's lips to "hear". They won't know the signing language of the translator. I think our bars got closed a few days ago but nothing else is closed. Individual locations of business get closed if they have a number of people getting tested positive from there. So far, we [CO] are doing ok......as in: not filling up our hospitals. I think that's key. So far, I'm not disagreeing with the CO Gov. But.....it's disheartening to have it actually illegal. There are those just waiting to cause friction with that. MtRider .....still and it's not really much different for me than Pre-COVID. Edited July 17, 2020 by Mt_Rider 1 Link to comment
euphrasyne
I'm really glad to hear about a deaf exemption anywhere. My DD17 is hearing impaired and it is very hard on her. This summer, she and her sister are sewing a lot of clear masks to hand out to teachers if school resumes next year. Reading lips isn't optional for her. 1 Link to comment
out_of_the_ordinary
There's supposed to be an exemption here the masks for people with health issues. However, people are on a weird, giddy power trip with mask enforcement. Non-mask wearers with health issues have been harassed, kicked out of stores and have had police called on them by store employees and other customers. Even when they clearly explain breathing/health issues. Giant Eagle stores here are being sued. 1 1 Link to comment
Ambergris
156 deaths in Florida yesterday. Almost 14,000 new cases confirmed in Florida yesterday--more than 3000 in one county alone. Edited July 17, 2020 by Ambergris 2 Link to comment
Ambergris
My loved ones have to go out into public places every day. They mask up and are taunted by mask slackers, people who just don't want to wear masks. Statistically speaking, some of these slackers are covid-spreaders. Store owners and managers don't know who is a mask slacker and who is a person with a health issue, and the average manager is not qualified nor authorized to make such distinctions. When I go out, I wear a mask, but that mostly protects other people from me, as opposed to protecting me from them. Because of the spreaders who just don't want to wear masks, until people with health issues take the initiative to use work-arounds like thinner cloth or clear plastic face shields, I am going to have to side with the people who say mask up or stay outside. 2 Link to comment

Mt_Rider
According to the stats today, CO just increased the number of "outbreaks" by 36. Usually that number is under 10. Case numbers have been way up for a week or so. Hospital....doing ok but increasing. MtRider ....if an outbreak is at DH's work....he'll be out again. Kinda hoping, actually. 2 1 Link to comment
Ambergris
OPINION If my students aren't safe, they can't learn anyway | Opinion I teach third grade over in Gadsden County. My district is a Title I district, and the school in which I teach is rural. I mention this because it factors into how I feel about everything. Those are my students, those are the families I serve, I have to consider them. This is why my heart is breaking. I am not opposed to schools opening, but only if there is proper support. Schools already lack funding. Where is the funding going to come from to get the supplies we need to sanitize, when we ourselves can’t get them? The Clorox wipes, the hand sanitizer, the masks, the gloves? How can we meet the demands of having the students six feet apart at all times? Our rooms aren’t big enough to do that – not if we still have the same number of kids in our rooms as last year. At best I could likely do 10 students, and that would be pushing the limits. Having kids enter the school the way it is right now simply isn’t safe. Kids are dying from COVID-19. And worse, children usually don’t have symptoms. So if we open, consider this: One kid contracts COVID-19. Their whole class, teacher, everyone on the bus, everyone who has interacted with them now has a chance contracting it as well. Then those children are asymptomatic, and they bring it all home and it spreads throughout the family and their workplaces. What happens then? Everything will have to shut down for at least 14 days. Schools will shut down. Then we will be right back where we are right now. The only thing that will change is the death rate, because there are no beds available in the hospitals. In the population I serve, if we don’t open the schools, a large portion of students will get no education because they don’t have access to the internet. (Many people take the internet for granted, but out of my 18 students last year, two had internet access. Two. We made packets they could take home.) So digital classes aren’t a fix, either. Where does that leave me? Heartbroken. I fail my students and my family either way. The way things currently are, if we go back to classroom, I risk spreading COVID-19 and infecting an entire town – but some kids would have an education. If we go digital, I won’t reach most of my students, but they would at least be safe from COVID-19. Between the two choices, I want my students to live. +++++++++++++++++++++ And, having known the teacher since she was three months old, I am fairly interested in wanting her to live as well. So what's the answer? Edited July 19, 2020 by Ambergris 1 Link to comment
Mt_Rider
Just talked to our DD1 ...teaches 5th grade. They are having meetings and meetings and meetings.....nothing decided. They think they will have half the class on M/T .....W is for meetings, etc.....Th/F is other half. Will they have longer school day or additional weeks to cover the year's expectations? WHAT do working parents do? OTOH....classroom disruptions will go down. Student-teacher ratios will be nice. Might start a whole new trend. MtRider Link to comment
