Yet another block in container traffic

I believe that's why I should start having 'bridgeaphobia'!!!!!   I won't show my Daughter, she already has it.....  I've heard for years about the deplorable shape of our bridges this picture makes it all too real.  Thankfully the ones we use have or are being replaced.

This is NOT a "crack." This is a BREAK. (IMO)

bridge crack Mississippi Tennessee

If a doctor saw that on an x-ray he would definitely call that a break and not a fracture. Or in this case a crack.

Look at how much the top right side of the beam is raised up. Looks like plenty of rust has built up in there too.

Oh my, I just noticed the water below.  :0327:

This is infrastructure.  People who inspect bridges have been filing reports that they need repairs (or replacement) for decades now, and they have mostly just been getting minimal patches.  Mostly.  There is reason to spend money on the country's infrastructure.

I have "bridgeaphobia" too! This is one (of many) good reason that I would never live in Seattle! There are bridges EVERYWHERE!

My "bridgeaphobia" is mostly connected with getting "dizzy" when driving over an open girder bridge - like the Golden Gate and the twin spans over the Delaware River. There is another "bridge" that I will never ever use again - the causeway over Lake Pontchartrain!

I get a little bit dizzy on long bridges. I'm not afraid of them but it's hard for me to focus when I'm driving on one. Almost like vertigo.

When I was a kid I lived in Clearwater Florida. A couple of times a year we used the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. To say I was scared is an understatement. As I recall 'someone' rode on the floorboard in the back of the car both coming and going. I was just a kid then but I was glad I wasn't driving age. I can still remember that bridge. I didn't mind the causeways. But they aren't over 4 miles long and going way up in the air. It might have been a drawbridge way back then. I don't remember. It collapsed in 1980.  :0327:

Okay, these pictures are making a definite case for ”Bridgeaphobia”.   :0327:

Wow, I just started to read some of what I missed and this is bad.  I have been across that bridge in clearwater when I went to visit my younger sister when she lived there several years ago.

They have been working on the bridges around here and they are in process of rebuilding and adding another bridge beside the old Churchland bridge.

I had not heard about all this with the barges until I read this. That is a bad break in that bridge. And  a lot of headaches.

I think I need to catch up on the news as well.

Of course they are blocked. Right when I'm getting ready to order living room furniture in Indiana.  :sigh:

I still need a queen box spring mattress and a twin set. I'm going to order both of them when I get over there in two weeks. Even if the twin set has to set on the floor for now.

Who knows what we should stock up on now?

I was wondering to myself, why not "solve" this problem by building another port??? :scratchhead:

Then I found this video! This is not a California port, but it does give you an idea about what would be needed to construct one. Look at the size and height of those cranes!!! :o And notice how the ships don't leave port under their "own steam;" they have to be pulled away from the dock and moved to deeper water by tugboats. Wowsers!

BTW, turn down the volume on your speakers; I found the "music" to be quite annoying.

There is a difference in a port and a deep water port.  Certain ships need deeper water than others and you can't really do that artificially without completely disrupting the ecosystem for thousands of miles and billions of dollars.    The cranes and tugboats aren't really an issue.  We have them all over here since we are the 6th busiest port in the US.

The supertankers, post-panamax boats, and larger cargo ships all need deep water ports (over 40Ft for draft.)  This isn't common and you can only build them in areas where the amount of dredge doesn't disrupt everything.  Any bridges also need to be large enough to open or tall enough for them to go under.   We have the M&M bridge and we also have underwater tunnels so the boats can go over the roads.  Our port is roughly 50Ft and is considered pretty deep.

The problem is less about port space and more about how they are implementing quarantine policy and routines.   California only allows union members to work on certain ports and there is a labor shortage since they won't hire more people.   I really don't think this is a port space issue at all.

Thanks for your inside information, Euphrasyne!!  I find that sort of thing fascinating.

So....we still have a "Movement Of Goods" problem.

We're all getting lessons in HOW we get stuff to stores to buy it.  It's COMPLICATED!   And complex systems break down easier than simple ones.

DH read an article yesterday about the lack of truck drivers to move the containers out of the ports ... onto the roads and rails.   :tapfoot:  It reminds me of when he worked for the power plant and the fears the workers had of it crashing and going cold. It was almost impossible to get everything to come back online at just the precise time it was needed. It's always a good reminder to me about our fractured infrastructure.  :sad-smiley-012:

I posted an article not too long ago about how some manufacturers and distributors are requiring that any trucking company that wants to work for them would have to mandate vaxx's for their drivers and a lot of the independent mom & pop companies are not complying. This adds an additional bottleneck to the supply chain. I hope they hold strong!

Remember Bernie Sanders?  They are using his policies to promote socialism/Communism.  This is the great reset. We will no longer own anything. The government will take our homes and if we do not do as they say we are out of our homes. If we do not get the vaccine, we cannot work, buy groceries or anything else. We  be outcast if we do not comply. We are becoming like Venezuela.  We have been sold out to China. The reason the boarders are wide open is because we will no longer have a president but a dictator like in other countries. They are trying to fix it so we can no longer vote republican. The illegals will be voting in our elections even though they are not citizens. This is being worked on in congress now. This is why the open boarders. The left knows they will vote democrat. Look at how other countries are fighting over the take over when it comes time to elect another leader over in those countries.  Putin will have anyone killed that interferes with him winning. That happens in other places as well. As the saying goes, we can run but we can't hide.  The mark of the beast is here. World religion is coming, as well as one world currency. We are no longer the United States of America. We are being destroyed from within.  If we do not comply to the demands of this government takeover, we will be cancelled.  It is passed time for all of this country that still believes in a true democracy to pray as hard as we can about what is happening. And no matter what happens, God is always in control. All these things must take place in order for the one world order to form and take over.  We are going to soon be told to hand over our guns, and Bibles. We are more to do in the prepping situation, than just food, water, clothing, blankets, etc. We are in big trouble in this country.

I hate to be the bearer of doom and gloom, but these are the facts straight from Revelation.  Wars and rumors of war, mark of the beast, earthquakes in virous places, our weather going crazy, famine, water shortages, etc. it is not good. Look up as your redemption draws near. This was predicted and is now happening. It will get worse.
