EmeraldCat
Quick question! I know that you cannot re-use the lids after processing them for canning. I recently froze several jars of broth and am now using them. Is it safe to use a mason jar lid after it’s been in the freezer? I plan on canning up some pinto beans soon and I don’t want to use the temporarily frozen lids if it would not be safe to do so. Thanks! Quote Link to comment
Dee
I've never used new lids for freezing. I save lids from the jars I've already canned and opened. I use them for everything other than canning. 5 Quote Link to comment
Midnightmom
Having been in the freezer may have "damaged" the sealant part of the lid. You can try to contact Ball or Kerr or whoever you got the lids from to be sure, but in the meantime I wouldn't use them for canning. 2 Quote Link to comment
Jeepers
I agree with the other ladies. They would be safe to use as far as that goes but you might have a higher rate of sealing failure. I mostly use my used lids for dried goods too. They do well with a vacuum sealer as long as they aren't dented up around the rim. 3 Quote Link to comment
