Jeepers
Good point Mother. But you haven't seen my old metal mail box. It's on the chopping block too. I have a new one in the garage awaiting that elusive handyman...next year. It's going to require post hole digging. I really don't want a showplace here. Just normal. 4 Quote Link to comment
Littlesister
Jeepers, my flower beds need some attention bad. I had them weeded out, but weeds are growing back in again but not as bad. the mulch is sitting on the patio and doesn't do a thing for the flower beds if I don't put it in there. Might do that tomorrow if the weather is good. I don't do really cold temps. I have to put my Christmas wreath between the door and storm door also. You just can't use a really big fat one. Though I have also put one on the storm door as well. Only reason I got a tree this year is for the GGD. Plus, I am going to have DD's DH's family here also and they have GSIL has a 13-year-old brother. So, I just do it for the kids. 3 Quote Link to comment
Jeepers
I used to decorate when the three of us were all living at home. When it came down to just me, it was more trouble than it was worth. I'd have to drag everything out of the garage attic and move the furniture around. It was in the front of the house and I was always back in the family room. I never really saw it. Then I'd have to tear it all down and drag the stuff back in the garage and move the furniture back in. It just wasn't worth it for me. I might get a tree next year. I doubt it but maybe. It would be the same thing. DGS would probably see it twice. And Santa comes to his house not mine. DIL puts up a nice big tree so I just use theirs. Works for me. Holidays can be lonely and depressing for a lot of people. And a lot of stress. I don't get depressed but I'd rather skip the whole ordeal. 3 Quote Link to comment
Littlesister
Jeepers, I don't get depressed over it. I just get tired of my DD changing plans on me all the time. She does things last minute and I don't. I need time to plan things out and get the house cleaned and decorated. I can't do that on a dime. Though this will be the first time I have had a tree up since 2019. DDH told me in 2020 not to mess with decorating in 2020 as I was so busy taking care of him at the time. It wasn't worth it to do all that and trying to help him as much as possible. He was where he was no longer able to walk. Christmas of 2020 2 Quote Link to comment
Mt_Rider
We're about to get snow again this week. I'd rather wait a few more weeks. This recent sunshine has really taken down even the pushed up snow piles up here in the shade. They're still there but less. Probably the last thawing days until the traditional January thaw. That one ...is not guaranteed! But it's very nice when we get it. MtRider ...here we go again 2 Quote Link to comment
The WE2's
Today is a pretty nice day...50 ish...a bit cloudy and not too much wind. Laundry has been caught up a few days ago, but it would be good day to do some! LOL It was really cold last night...28...but it warmed up by 10am. 3 Quote Link to comment
Littlesister
It was in the 50's today with some rain but not much. Just enough to get the sidewalks and streets wet and then it dried up. 1 Quote Link to comment
Jeepers
I walked out the door with my sweater on today. Turned right around and got my jacket instead. It warmed up into the 50's but it's down to 30 now. But it was a beautiful dry sunny day. Next week the lows at night will be in the teens. 12° on Friday night but dry. 2 Quote Link to comment
Mt_Rider
We sat on the border of freezing today. Saw a lot of snow-bits flying thru the air but ... none of them landed. Well, yeah they did but melted and no accumulation. But it's coming...... A very grey, chilly day. MtRider ..they're talking around a FOOT of snow. 2 Quote Link to comment
Littlesister
Last thing I need now is snow. it's getting up to about 58* today. And I still have to get out into the shed to get the Christmas things out of the loft. I know my DD and SIL will be here the weekend of the 30th but these days they always have an excuse to not help me. They go straight over to DGD's house to play with the baby. Can't say I blame them since they don't see her as much as I do. But come on. Just give me an hour of your time. Nope. So, I will be getting it done hopefully today. 2 Quote Link to comment
Mt_Rider
We did get half a foot of snow today. Not really cold or windy. I didn't go out. Wasn't feeling well but not in a sick way. Just dizzy, weak, unusual muscle spasms. MtRider ...hope you get better soon, Little Sister! 1 1 Quote Link to comment
Littlesister
Weather was about 58* today but we had rain yesterday and last night. We are about to get the cold weather in. I don't care how I feel tomorrow. I am getting the Christmas things out of shed and bringing up more firewood to the house. I want to be prepared to not have to go outside during the first deep freeze. For some reason my body is not liking it very well. Could just be the bronchitis though. 1 1 Quote Link to comment
Jeepers
It was cold here today in the upper 20's. I was in and out of the car once so I didn't notice it too much. Tonight it's 25° and the wind chill feels like 10°. Wind chill. I haven't used that phrase for a year. I think I read where they were going to do away with that term? I don't remember why though. They can call it what ever they want...it's still cold. They (family) was talking about how it was supposed to get cold and windy starting tonight. It did. And a possibility of some lake effect snow tomorrow. We'll see. 2 Quote Link to comment
Littlesister
Jeepers, I heard about the lake effect snow also. Not sure if we will get any of it, but I hope not. Temps are now dropping, and it is 53* now. Going down to 30* by 6am. Sat. will be only 44* I still need to bring more firewood up to house but it will just have to wait till tomorrow. After dragging all the Christmas boxes from the loft to garage I am done. I have done well to not take a nap today. So that is a good sign. I withstood the 50 plus degree weather for that, so I am thinking I am on the mend. I am so not ready for winter cold. 1 Quote Link to comment
Mt_Rider
This is unusual, even for us, to have this much snow AND subzero temperatures. Does not bode well for the rest of the winter....which usually means May. MtRider 2 Quote Link to comment
Littlesister
I have a bad feeling that our winter here is going to be colder. Not sure about the snow yet though. We have had our worst snow in March around here, so nothing will surprise me. Just stay safe if you must go out in it. No falling and sliding down hills. It's only in the low 40's today and I am not sure if it has reached that yet. Haven't checked but it was bitter cold early this morning. Sun is shining so that is a plus. 2 Quote Link to comment
Becca_Anne
Little bit of snow coming down here today! It finally feels seasonally appropriate around here. I am loving the flakes coming down. Have put up my Christmas trees and now to decorate 3 1 Quote Link to comment
The WE2's
Snowed pretty heavy earlier today, about 2 inches, and now it's just spitting...still pretty cold though. 4 Quote Link to comment
Littlesister
No snow here so far. It is now 39* and feels much colder. I think they said it feels like 34*. Too cold for me. It will be 29* at 7am in the morning. It will feel like 26*. 2 Quote Link to comment
Mother
23° here now with a light wind. Feels much colder. Supposed to be 11° tonight with feel like temp. 0 or in the single digit. Thankfully no snow,,,,,,yet. 1 2 Quote Link to comment
out_of_the_ordinary
We've only had dustings of snow so far. A few weeks ago we were still running the window a/c at night. Today's high is in the 20s. While I like the cold (no slitheries, no yellowjackets, no pollen), I think it is going to take my body a little while to adjust. 3 Quote Link to comment
Necie
Cold here. This morning the radio said it was 20* out— wc 3*. It got cold and snowed a bit Thursday. Snowed a bit yesterday. Only about an inch each time. Really windy. I guess that just north of us is getting hammered. Lake effect machine is revving up. Luckily for us, the wind is more out of the west. If it were a bit more out of the northwest, then we’d be getting the snow. Just flurries right now. It’s supposed to be sunny, cold and and windy for the next few days. Highs in the 20s. Right now, our indoor/outdoor thermometer says 23* outside and 81* inside. I just don’t go outside unless I absolutely have to... and I usually don’t have to. 😂 I don’t think I’ve stepped foot out the door since Monday when Mom and I went shopping. And it was 57* that day. The floor is cold. The floors are always cold in the winter. I don’t like that. Probably a good thing that I sit cross legged in my chair. And wear multiple pairs of socks. 😉 5 Quote Link to comment
Mt_Rider
Welllll......Didn't mean to pass it along but, yeah. Strong system out east. The weather held in northern VA till by mom was able to go out to the farm for Thanksgiving with Bro and Niece. They had a good time; good food; see all the horses, mini horse, and mini donkeys. Glad the weather was good enough she could do that. MtRider 3 Quote Link to comment
Littlesister
Here now is 49*. But feels colder. Possible rain tonight but states a 20% chance. Mt. Rider, I knew that N. VA would get that snow and cold. But glad your mom was able to get out to have Thanksgiving with your brother. That was good for her. OOTO. That's cold. My floors also stay cold, and I am thinking at some point having the underside of the floors insulated and also the pipes under house wrapped at the same time. We don't get the cold that a lot of you get here. But we do get below freezing weather. I keep my thermostat set at 68* all winter and then have the wood stove going also. I always keep water on top of the wood stove, but this year after the bout with bronchitis. I ordered a whole house humidifier. It should be here Tuesday. It will do a 2000ft. home. Mine is 1800ft. So should work well. It holds 4 gals of water and is on wheels so easy to move around. 2 1 Quote Link to comment
Jeepers
I saw where it got to 19° here last night. We've have only had a dusting of snow that didn't stick around very long. Cleveland is getting hammered with lake effect snow. I'm saving a fortune not paying the snow plow guy over there. He always came way too often...charging by the plow. $$$ Not sure what I'll do if it snows deep here this year. I'm not prepared for that. I don't have a plow guy lined up (don't know anyone) and I don't have a snow blower (probably couldn't run it anyway). I told sons that if I don't come around a lot this winter, don't think anything about it. I'll be snowed in. I did get some ice melt for the walkway and I can use the snow shovel for a short distance. Plan A is to get out there and run the jeep up and down the driveway a few times during a snowstorm to keep it packed down. . Plan B is to stay home. I have enough food until the big spring thaw. Today I went to sons and played soccer outside for a little while. That only lasted about an hour. It started to get cold fast as the sun was going down. Son and I always stand outside and talk as I'm leaving. Not for long today. It was freezing out there at 20°. I need some warmer clothes. It took me a long time to warm back up. Even after I got home I hit the bed with the heating pad. I noticed my bedroom window seemed drafty. They probably all are. I haven't budgeted money for new windows. That won't happen for a few years yet. I'll probably start to put plastic up and shrink wrap them. I already bought it. Just in case. It's supposed to get down to 13° tonight. Brrrrrr. 2 Quote Link to comment
