I got some lamp oil and put it in my new lamp. When I lit it, the flame was SO big and black smoke was coming off it a lot. I lowered the wick as far as I think I could, it was flush with the top of the base. Is this normal? Or is there something wrong? Also, does the size of the clear glass part matter? I bought the base separate from the clear part and wonder if it is too small. WOuld a picture be helpful? I am afraid to have it burn too long cuz the flame is so big and when I put the top part on, the flame gets even bigger.
Duh.
I trimmed the wick and then it was able to go down much farther making the flame much smaller...so I'm OK. Got it under control. No black smoke. No fear of explosion. lol

Quick N Easy Granola Bars (nice chewy bars)
3 cups oats (quick or regular rolled)
3 cups stuff (nuts, berries, chocolate, drried fruit, leftover cookies, leftover cereal--seriously whatever!)
1/2 cup melted butter (I personally use way less)
1 can sweetened condensed milk
Combine all ingredients in a large bowl and mix well.
Line a 10 x 15 inch baking pan with foil and grease the foil. (I just grease the pan and they come off fine) Spoon batter into the pan. Bake at 325 degrees F. for 25 to 30 minutes, until golden brown.
Enjoy!

Someone had mentioned that they used oil lamps more so than electricity or at least they tried to. I read somewhere that a person could use olive oil in an oil lamp. Is that true? It seems that lamp oil is quite axpensive and I could probably get a better deal on olive oil at the restaraunt supply store if that is true. Thanks!

My recipe for the easy granola---I don't put any butter in it except to coat the bottom of the pan. I just typed the recipe the way it wsa given to me, but I mix the oats and stuff with the milk, bake it and it's done. They are soft, but it still tastes good with milk. I sometimes mix in a bunch of peanut butter.
