  1. Why females should avoid a girls night after they are married:

The other night I was invited out for a night with "the girls."

I told my husband that I would be home by midnight,

    "I promise!"

Well, the hours passed and the margaritas went down way too easy. Around 3 a.m., a bit loaded, I headed for home.

Just as I got in the door, the cuckoo clock in the hall started up and cuckooed 3 times. Quickly, realizing my husband would probably wake up, I cuckooed another 9 times.

I was really proud of myself for coming up with such a quick-witted solution (even when totally smashed), in order to escape a possible conflict with him.

The next morning my husband asked me what time I got in,

and I told him "Midnight". He didn't seem ticked off at all. Whew! Got away with that one!

Then he said, "We need a new cuckoo clock."

When I asked him why?, he said, "Well, last night our clock cuckooed three times, then said, "Oh. crap!", cuckooed 4 more times, cleared its throat, cuckooed another 3 times,

giggled, cuckooed twice more, and then tripped over the coffee table and farted."

  2. I have great news! My friend Rick is now on US soil and will be home very soon. He's looking forward to being with his wife, family and friends! Also he is looking forward to being a civilian once again after a very lengthy tour of duty in Iraq. Hopefully he will not have to return.

    Thank you for your prayers!

  3. 'Washing Clothes Recipe'

Years ago an Alabama grandmother gave the new bride the following recipe:

(This is an exact copy as written and found in an old scrapbook - with spelling

    errors and all.)

"WASHING CLOTHES -- Build fire in backyard to heat kettle of rain water.

Set tubs so smoke wont blow in eyes if wind is pert. Shave one hole cake of

    lie soap in boilin water.

    Sort things, make 3 piles

    1 pile white,

    1 pile colored,

1 pile work britches and rags.

To make starch, stir flour in cool water to smooth, then thin down with

    boiling water.

Take white things, rub dirty spots on board, scrub hard, and boil, then rub

colored don't boil just wrench and starch.

Take things out of kettle with broom stick handle, then wrench, and starch.

    Hang old rags on fence.

    Spread tea towels on grass.

Pore wrench water in flower bed. Scrub porch with hot soapy water. Turn

    tubs upside down.

Go put on clean dress, smooth hair with hair combs. Brew cup of tea, sit and

rock a spell and count your blessings."

***Paste this over your washer and dryer. Next time when you think things are

bleak, read it again, kiss that washing machine and dryer, and give thanks.

First thing each morning you should run and hug your washer and dryer, also

your toilet---those two-holers used to get mighty cold!

(For you non-southerners -wrench means rinse.)

  4. Fran was a great encourager and very sensitive to see that the needs of others were met, even when her own many times were not. Fran was a true giver! In May, she pm'd me (days before going into the hospital) wishing me a very happy birthday! She was such a blessing to me personally for all the encouragement and uplifting words she gave in our years of knowing one another! I will sincerly miss her presence and influence on this discussion board.

I am glad she doesn't hurt anymore, but God be with us that still do. Especially her with her family, in this difficult time.

Sweet Fran, I am blessed to have known you here and look forward to our reunion in Heaven.
