Guest Guest
Paul Harvey spoke about this today, so I went online & searched, and found this: http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansascity/n...176067.htm%3F1c Hey, wanna all move into a "Mrs Survival" subdivision? Guest Guest
Tornadoes? Sheesh, you can HIDE from them... basements, remember? And they don't hit *wide* and deep areas like hurricanes do, just a line of destruction, & they "skip" in odd ways. Now earthquakes... that's another thing! You won't catch me living in Califormia! Guest Guest
I got this elsewhere and thought you'd all be interested in it....................... rural kansas towns offering FREE land ... The original news item from AP came out last week. Mostly they are offering a small piece of land so people will build a house and bring the kids to go to school, which raises their tax base and increases the money the schools get. As with anything free, look closely before you jump. Towns are not likely to give away prime land in great locations. But it may be a great thing for some people. Marquette, one of the towns, bought 50 acres of farmland and divided it into 80 building lots - less than 1 acre per home. They say the only requirement is landholders must build a house within a year and live in it for a year. And in Marquette, you want to be sure you don't mind living near the rodeo grounds, which is where the free land is. Not fair to move in then later complain about the traffic and the dust and the noise and petition the city council to move the rodeo grounds ... Something to watch for over the next year or so, that was mentioned in the same article: "Also, Congress is considering a homesteading law to reward people who relocate to rural areas with tax breaks and other economic incentives." This could be of value to someone. Hill Quote Link to comment
