  1. Once upon a time there was a quilt block swap. From time to time I would look at the bear paw blocks I received and think about what to do. Then while I was waiting for inspiration, I would get sidetracked onto another project or some other commitment. Finally, around the beginning of 2013, I realized two of them would make lovely table mats. So I did that and posted a picture here of one of the mats. Eight of the other blocks had coordinating colors suitable for a quilt top. So I made a 9th block for a tic tac toe arrangement. Then I puzzled over fabric to use for sashing. I decided to add a frame strip in cranberry red around each block and a strawberry red print for wide sashing. I finished the top yesterday. The colors are darker than in the picture - really pretty. If Grace is still at this board, the red block at top center Is hers. If anyone recognizes their block, please identify it so I can thank you and give credit.
  2. These little framed counted cross stitch designs had been packed away and forgotten. Somehow they survived the move. Just one of the surprises that showed up during unpacking and found a home in a narrow wall in the studio.
  3. You can see my Amethist Bear Paw quilt at niece Kathy's blog. I pieced the top. She did the quilting on her sewing machine. But be forewarned. Don't read the Ultimate Awkward Moment! http://carpelanam.blogspot.com/2013/03/quilts-of-past-amethyst-bear-paw-and.html And here is a detail of a corner of the top.
  4. The Bear Paw block is 14" finished (14 1/2" with seam allowances.) The mat is about 18". Table mats and runners and wall quilts get used interchangeably .
  5. One more attempt - to get larger picture Didn't work.
  6. Attempt to post picture. If you are the one who made this block for me, please let us know.
  7. I got this pretty 14" bear paw block in the swap. Finally decided it would make a pretty table mat. I added the orange frame and turquoise backing. This tutorial video for wraparound binding caught my eye. I developed the method further to accomodate the added frame and batt. Oops, just intended the link to appear here. Didn't work that way. Had to edit out. My attachment picture didn't post.
  8. TFS Several of these blocks will make nice wall quilts - maybe with enlarging.
  9. Annarchy, TY. It worked - hovering over the name and not the box. Are you in AZ?
  10. Happy Sunday Morning to All! Yes, still dancing - at least in my mind! I've moved from NM to AZ. Less opportunity for dancing, but we've found a few nice events. Lots of packing and unpacking with the move. Gave away a lot, discarded a lot. Moved a bit too much. Lots of sorting and reorganizing, discarding and donating. Lots of searching and occasionally finding something forgotten. There was a quilt block swap, and after over 10 years, my stack of blocks showed up recently. Some are now on my design wall, waiting for one more block and sashing and border to complete a quilt top. A couple have just now been set into attractive table mats and finished with a little quilting. The blocks that I made were such color "misfits" that I put them into a quilt top by themselves and gave it to my niece to quilt on her large machine. This recent discovery and attempts to finish doing something with the blocks brought back memories of MrsS and promted me to post. If any of the swap participants are still members, I thought they might enjoy seeing pictures - which I will try to post soon. I still don't see a way to edit a post, and the screen didn't appear when I hovered over your kitty. TY for editing out my addy. Guess what! Just after I posted, I happened to move my cursor over the choices and saw Edit show up. So I clicked on it and here I am editing!
  11. Cat, please edit out my email addy ... or tell me how to edit. I didn't see a way. Thanks. I'll be in touch.
  12. So much time has passed. Sorry I've been away.so long. Cat, is there a way to PM now?
