  1. I bought some Ghiradelli chips on sale a couple weeks back to stock up. As I was moving the previous supply to the front I saw they shrunk that too. IS NOTHING SACRED?! :sad-smiley-012:

Too bad I can't get THAT in bulk. Well, I can get their brownie mix in bulk at Costco at least.

I can sympathize on the clothing, though. I dropped some weight and, as it looks like it's staying off, I'm trying to replace clothes that have worn out. Finding decent stuff under $100 is tough now.

  2. i just heard on the news last night that for 'health reasons' the king size snickers bars will be eliminated, and a smaller bar, not to go over 150 calories will be sold instead.

Yeah, right. A normal size Snickers bar is around 280 calories. Why do I know that, you ask? It's just one of those random factoids that stick in your head for no reason at all... I swear! :happy0203: If you want to eliminate the king size stuff to look like you are "doing something" about health issues, ok...but you are taking a BIG chunk out of a normal size bar there...not king size.

  3. Because I had a big tp stockpile I just recently had to buy some for the first time in about 2 years. When putting it on the roller I noticed it is definitely not as wide as the old roll was. Not only did the price go up, but the square footage went down!

A while back my husband noticed the same thing- and with the bulk buys at Costco the brand names (and even the store brand) have taken to putting fewer rolls per package in. DH is very analytical and very frugal. We stood there gazing back and forth between brand name on "sale" vs. the store brand. Different number of rolls, and different square footage for each roll. And we HATE falling into the "shortchange the package to fleece the customer" trap.

So DH said "May I borrow your smartphone?" and asked me to start reading off the prices and square footage for the two packages- and DH concluded that one was cheaper by a little bit. Further up the aisle I saw a very pregnant lady with I presume her mother comparing other items on the shelf behind us. She noticed my DH punching away on the smartphone and asked, "Would you mind telling me what you came up with?" So we were able to be of small help to another lady who needed to watch her pennies too.

  4. I noticed that a while ago too, Momo. I also noticed how big the cardboard center became. That makes it look like there is as much paper on the roll as the older ones.

If that center gets much bigger I'll be able to start wearing it for a bracelet. :nail:

On the bright side, if you save those cardboard centers for the garden (protect new plants from cutworms), the plant has that much more room within the roll.

  5. We have been invaded by meeces. xanimal_eek.gif

After 17 years, they have managed to find enough places to enter that DH finally had to search out possible entrances, and after pulling off some siding, he found a hole where he *thought* he had patched well enough... they just went a little higher and dug in. And brought their friends and relatives. xmousefam.gif

So we're trying peppermint oil, bought from the 'net, and have it on cotton balls and "feminine panty liners", as suggested by someone online, because the liners can be stuck onto walls, etc. Before the oil arrived, I threw some Altoids around in a couple of places because that was also a suggestion. Supposedly we're starting at one end of the house and they will move further until they leave. xmouseright.gif

I'm not sure if it's going to work, but at least the house smells nice. Well, until you get the windows closed overnight and it gets really intense... shakinghead.gif

Keep us updated in how that goes. Mom and Dad's house has a horrible mouse problem; Mom talked about watching one chew/scratch through drywall and drop into the house that way! :o She has two good mousers and a third that likes it recreationally...but there's just too darn many now.

I've seen evidence of mice around the outside of my house. No evidence of invasion yet. My adolescent kittens hardly let a fly survive in here anyway. :D They are hungry all the time and, well...they utilize the resources available to them.
