  1. are these the ones that grow in bunches and never get any bigger than chives? I've always been told they were poisonous so i've never tried them. The year i grew some chives and they look just like these wild onions and was tempted to try some in the place of chives, yet, i remember being told they were poisonous so didnt. I love how they smell while i mow, would love it if i could eat them too...

Silky Potato soup in 30 minutes from start(peeling potatoes) to finish(on the table) in a pressure cooker 6 med to large potatoes 1 carton of chicken broth salt and pepper to taste 2T olive oil 1 onion chopped cup of chopped carrots 2 cloves a garlic celery leaves, about half cup(optional) small red and yellow bell pepper (optional) or red poblano pepper (optional) 8 oz cream cheese Saute the onions, carrots, garlic celery(peppers if added) until the onions are transparent but not browned in olive oil. While that is working, peel potatoes. Add broth to sauteed veggies, cut up potatoes and add. The potatoes should be wading a little in the broth, not really floating. Turn heat to high and let the broth warm up to almost boiling, put pressure cooker top on and once steaming, lower heat to a nice medium sound(probably best to go by the directions of your pressure cooker). Start timer for 6 minutes. Quick cool after cook time, stir in cream cheese. When you do this the potatoes fall apart and make a very velvety soup....You can make this soup on the stove top without a pressure cooker, but, I've found the pressure cooker is fool proof... I never make this soup the same, i always experiment with adding things i have on hand at the time. Some times i add more pepper, its good with a little fire. Bacon is good. The only thing that can go wrong is too much liquid. If this happens, if you have some dehydrated potatoes on hand, you can add a little at a time until its where you want it.

  5. we have small wild persimmons here. You have to catch them just right or you will get quite the shock or pucker..lol We open the seeds in the fall and predict the winter weather with the inside of the meat of the seed. It will either be a spoon, fork or knive.....spoon means wet weather, knife means cold and fork means good weather. I havent checked them yet this fall...

  8. We live way off the road and our road is not one someone takes to go anywhere other than to their house. So, when we see a strange car or truck, we take note. Lately, this guy with a freezer in the back of his truck has been coming around trying to sell meat. He always drives up to our house asking if we want to buy meat, he has steaks, and roast, and during his sales pitch i say, "Uh, did you not notice the cows around our house, this is a cattle ranch." He always then goes into, "I sell to the So-and-so's and the You-know-whos." Prominent names in town. Our daughter who works for the sheriff's office says that a rash of burglaries always happens after this guy in the freezer truck is making rounds. Hopefully, this guy knows someone is here most of the time, unfortunately, my daughter who lives off the farm to market road's boyfriend told this guy they are usually never there..(he's young and just didn't think) but if the guy did his homework he knows someone from the sheriffs office works there. The problem where i live is, we are armed. If someone comes into my house, they know we will be armed so that means they will be armed. We have dogs so no one can sneak to our house but this doesn't make me totally comfortable.
  9. Thats where i am in the picture. Our Atwoods had a contest. We won best overall and got lots of doggie treats, a horse halter and lead rope.

  13. my college daughter lives in a dorm apartment with 3 others. One came down with the flu and she said she was diagnosed with swine flu. Then another in the apartment came down with a flu, but she was diagnosed with regular flu. All within days of each other, so whats up, what are the odds of roommates getting a different flu...sounds fishy. They sent both home for a week. I predict that there will be a missquoted number of H1N1 cases of flu.
  14. yep, that the little bugger. I have a 55 gallon tank and they get way too big with room. I've had them up to the size of my middle finger. I always have the hopes they will remain nice, but they never do. And they're sneaky, only picking at night and when you aren't looking. In just a few days it will have every fin pecked off a large fish. All i have is goldfish and sure wished they would eat algae. Maybe the ones at the pet shop were shielded from direct sun or indirect sun. I have more problems when the sun moves from summer to winter in my house, once its moved, my algae is dormant sort of. To cheat when cleaning, i turn over my rocks where the algae isn't, i can do this a couple of time until the dead algae gets too thick. I never have free floating algae, my water stays clear. I bought the 55 gal. complete set at walmart, it came with the filter. You buy filter cartridges to replace the used ones. You slip one out, slip the new one in. They are great but do cost too much, that's why i clean and reuse a couple of times. They suggest changing them every 6 weeks, golly, that would be way expensive for me even if i have just goldfish...lol....
  15. if you decide to start it up again, go to walmart and get ya a side filter, not only does it stay cleaner, you no longer need a pump. Thats probably the best part about it, no loud pump that constantly goes out.
  16. most have replaceable filters that contain the charcoal, so, you dont have to mess with charcoal, just keep the filters changed. I cheat and wash the old filters and reuse them. I can go around 6 months when i do this. And, its important to know that goldfish are forgiving fish, probably wouldnt do this with tropical Goldfish do not eat notable amounts of algae..i wished they did. The only fish you can buy that do are the little algae fish that are cigar shaped. The only problem with them is if they get any size on them they are very aggressive and will kill a fish 10 times his size by picking him to death. And thats too bad because they are the only fish who truly eats a noticeable amount of algae. Could be your water is just adjusting, give it a few days and i bet it clears up. As long as the fish seem ok, i wouldnt worry..
  17. the side filters are better. I dont even think they have undergravel filters anymore. Me and 2 of my daughters have aquariums and use the side filter. It keeps the water much cleaner and doesnt drag everything into the gravel. I use to work in a aquarium shop and they all used undergravel filters way back in the 70's.

  19. does it have a filter? How long did the water sit before you put him in. I only have goldfish because they are cheap and hearty. Not sure why if you are doing things the same this one clouds.
  20. i wished i could go into more detail but its an invention i'm coming up with. The potato tubers would remain in the dark, but, i could make it where they never get wet, just the base of the roots from the potato eye. If the potato tubers can get all they need through the stem from the eye's roots, then it will work, if they require nutrition through their skin, then i'll have to rethink....
  21. Can a potato plant produce potatoes if only the roots get water. My question, can a potato grow if it never gets wet but the plant gets enough water?...Kind of on the line of hydroponic growing. .I'm in the process of making something but, it depends on if the potato itself has to have water....
