I thought I had introduced myself somewhere along the line but looking at my profile it says I have No Posts so I guess not. I am a bit socially anxious and even find forums difficult, but I have been lurking here long enough I am about ready to jump in and start posting a bit. Also, I need to learn to can, so, it would be polite to introdruce myself before leaping into questioning you all.
I am Lee, a single mama of a 7 month old, in Western Australia. I have been prepping at various levels of seriousness/intensity for years, and am currently in one of the not-so-intense phases (being pregnant and exhausted and then coping with a newborn on your own will do that, I've found ) and trying to ramp it back up.
This years skill-goals:
Crochet
Chainsawing
and CANNING (which is where I will be haunting the threads here for advice, I think! I don't know anybody in real life who cans, except one woman who lives about 4-5 hours away from me. I don't think canning is nearly as big here in Australia as it is in the states.)
Apart from a baby daughter, I am also responsible for 1 dog, 2 cats, 3 geese, 4 guinea fowl and a couple dozen chooks (chickens) (plus 7 roosters... at least 4 too many but I'm vegetarian so will have to palm them off on someone at some point!) My garden would be looking very sad and dismal if it weren't for the one mad seed-planting spree I went on with my six year old niece a couple of months ago, which at least has half a dozen vines going everywhere and looks very abundant if nothing else
I am completely out of chook food (chicken feed?) AND cat litter, which shows how lamentably I am managing the preparedness business right at present. Must do something about that!!
I have no idea what else to say about ME, but I shall say this about YOU : This is my favourite ever survival forum. I love that it is women helping women, and not all rambo gun stuff. I love that you are all so nice and helpful to each other. I love the goofy jokes, and friendly bantering, and that even when you disagree it is politely. It is a very welcoming place, and even though I am usually very nervous about stepping foot into any new place (even online), even *I* feel fairly comfy introducing myself here, because you all seem so lovely.
So... thanks. Thanks for giving me a place I feel comfortable talking, so I can really get back into being prepared and learning new skills, with (hopefully?) new friends to help and encourage me along the way...
I'd better post this and get back to gobbling my dinner before baby needs attention
