rexandlinda
Hi everyone! Are any of you taking measures to protect your farm animals against BF? It seems like the farmers with the most to lose are those that free range their fowl. Mass producers like Tyson have the awful practice of stacking all their hormone injected birds in cages that never see the light of day...but they will probably still be in business if the masses of people aren't too freaked out to eat their chickens. Is it worth the investment to raise birds right now??? My family only eats organic, naturally grown foods as much as possible. I have been buying up all the hens I can get from Sanderson Farms when they go on sale for $00.49/#. It's such a great deal, and I can't help but wonder if they are trying to get rid of all their birds before Link to comment
little sister
We free-range our poultry. If a mandatory NAIS is passed in our state, we will probably confine them to one of the barns, just to keep them out of view of neighbors who may panic and/or report us to the USDA for keeping illegal poultry Link to comment
rexandlinda
Thanks Cyndi! Going one step further...how do you plan to keep a sterile evironment for your hens if you do decide to house them? Do you walk through bleach water b/f entering to clean and feed? Are you concerned with feed being contamimated in any way? Link to comment
little sister
my animals don't live in sterile environments now. We're a farm - there's doopa everywhere! Not very sterile! We would tighten up the bio security we've always had. segregate new animals. We may stop our farm tours, or require folks wear disposable boots. Link to comment
