Our Ancestors

When you do family tree research on the Internet, there is one name that consistently shows up—either as a direct ancestor, a cousin, or an uncle. Because this name shows up so often, some people think that we genealogists are ‘faking ‘ our research. However, as I always tell my daughter, “Way back than, only royalty kept track of who their ancestors.” After all, the ‘common people’ couldn’t read or write and were too busy surviving to worry about whom their ancestors were. Who is this person who is related to all of us? Why, the Holy Roman Emperor Charlemagne, of course, who was born in 742 and died about 813.
