Received by email today (5-25-2010) from Liberty Counsel:

As I write, ultraliberal House and Senate leaders are rushing

to pass legislation revoking the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell"

(DADT) policy from our military.......

++This is radical, anti-family social engineering at its worst.

Revoking DADT is no small policy change. As you probably

know, "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" is really a misnomer. In

1993 Congress overwhelmingly REJECTED President Clinton's

proposal to allow open homosexuality in the military and

passed a law clearly stating that openly practicing

homosexuals ARE NOT ELIGIBLE for military service.

The only compromise made in the bill was to drop the question

about homosexuality that appeared on military induction forms.

Thus, the phrase "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" remained as a popular

moniker.

That 1993 law codified a long-standing Defense Department

policy recognizing the military as a "specialized society"

that is "characterized by forced intimacy with little or

no privacy." The law was designed to PROTECT "high standards

of morale, good order and discipline, and unit cohesion

that are the essence of military capability."

The Petition States:

As a concerned citizen, I am calling on our President, Congress and administration to reject any legislation enacting a pro-homosexual policy change in our society, especially our schools and our military.

Specifically, I urge you not to repeal the 1993 law, referred to as “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” which states that homosexuals are not eligible to serve in the military.

Repealing the law will undermine recruitment and retention, impact leadership, damage unit cohesion and weaken our overall military. This is a national defense issue -- not a civil rights issue! I join over 1,000 high-ranking retired Flag and General officers who personally signed a statement expressing great concern that a repeal of the law would undermine unit cohesion, discipline and combat effectiveness.
