  1. Okay I'm putting you up for Saint Keeper , yup, FULL canonization because I could NOT have gone back and still endured rude and callous treatment. Your body is giving you the celestial hint, chica! Helllllllo, wake up and....hmmm maybe not smell the coffee but take the antibiotics. Your body has turned rebel. *g* It knows this is a stressful, unnerving situation. Despite being friends with the boss it reminds you that the boss is not *defending* any of you or recognizing what a true worker you've always been. Remember, you were looking for a job when you got this one. You'll land another and hurting yourself for the company is counter productive for you all. Okay, Cookie climbing down off the soapbox but letting you know you REALLY need to think your priorities. As sick as you've been...think of it this way, do you want an epitaph that reads" she was always on time for work?" as being the defining point of your life? A sound work ethic is wonderful, strong morals also, good friends and a loving partner a MUST. But you must have something for your soul too. What do you really WANT to do? Hmmm, I'll stop (blush), sorry I got so preachy, but I watched loving friends of mine disinigrate from work down here. Off my High Horse but still concerned, your goofier pal, Cookie ------------------
  2. Om Gosh!! Kimba How funnyy! I loved that show back and would sing "Kimba the white lion is the one." You can repeat that line to your parents and freak them out. LOL Okay, off track, Kimba and I will behave now. *giggle snark* Cookie You need an icon with a white lion!!! ------------------
  3. Thank you so much info and on the animal alarms, Cool idea on raising rabbits even an apartment, you read my mind or picked up my hints from talking about indoor gardens/fruit trees perhaps? My plans for resources. I live in a huge city(is that like 9 times I've mentioned it? LOL) and look for ways to complete my *cache*...if that makes sense? I already keep a reasonable larder due to hurricanes. I was thinking of my future house (within 2 years! Hopefully). I remember my aunt had peacocks one of which was snow white and when it screamed at my 9 year old self I shrieked and fled. LOL. One couple I know kept Oleander Geese for there territorial fierceness. They even had to apologise to the mailman once.(they *treed* him in his truck). Just ideas and loving hearing about your homes and what you do. Cookie ------------------
  4. Awww Darlene!!!! HUGE mega industrail strength blush. I love hanging out here, even if my typos could possible create an international incident. Lois is a coooool puppyand has put up with my trying to lure her out to play. bad cookie bad! Go lay down..LOL. thanks Darlene and hugs Lois, I'm goofy but heartfelt concerned. Cookie clueless but with a COOL icon LOL ------------------

  7. Lois, You know I'm a goofy unarticulate pal. (we've both noted, grammer and spelling are lacking for moi). *w* Your trust in God is best. All will unfold as it should. Sheesh, I shouldn't even speak...but my heart holds love and faith for you and hope. I'm not the best person and we've only just met but, I wish I could hug you. Nothing brilliant or earth moving, just a buddy hug and a mug of coffee or tea and a book. No budding wisdom just a HEY THERE, your goofier pal is now fleeing in embarrassment Cookie ------------------
  8. *AHEM* visual pointing at Garden Mom. *Ahem* NOT that I am dropping Darlene 50 thousand (x2) hints that she has done nothing wrong and bygones be bygones. Nope, not me hinting around, nope perish the thought. say no more, tick a lock, not a word. NOPE! not me. LOLOLOLOLOL!!! running for cover as Darlene WOULD pelt me with either mangoes or waterballoons for *instigating* (my best Ms. piggy voice) MOI???? cookie ducking and covering ------------------
  9. Okay it's all reci's fault, Now I'll HAVE to either own or read all these books because my curiosity is at THE all time high. I see you over there grinning reci, knowing I will be out on Half.com bouncing on titles. tsk tsk... *wink* I can SEE your going to be a bad influence. hus, cookie librio ------------------
  10. Ginger-del-garden, Hola!!! And thank you, but truthfully, I live in a 1940's apartment building that is surrounded by fruit and such trees. ( there are two little old ladies that pounce on the bananas from the prayer tree and have been probably squabbling over them for 30 years...LOL). But it is fascinating in that... this is Florida: drop a seed and watch it grow. But I am in inner-city, so the thought of window gardens and tub trees appeals to me. *wink* Thanks for the kind welcome garden gal, *wink* the clueless but ever hopeful Cookie ------------------
  11. Embarrassingly, I am the typo queen. (sigh) Please, I'd like to know more about everyone's feelings from the frontier show as well as more info on the River Cottage scene. Do you think they'll put it on BBC-America? Cookie
  12. Lois!!! Here I'm teasing you about a book and you've had real time trouble. Contrite. I am glad all the prayers, well wishes, etc. came through and I am happy your Mom is doing better. May only better times and well being come your family's way. Good Thoughts for you, Cookie ( I guess kidnapping you about websites and books would be a NO? Yeah, probably not good, huh. I guess behaving here is in order huh and not trying to make you grin).. got it yup
  13. You sound perfect Kimba! Now I'll have to run out and get the series. *grin* Hopefully I didn't reveal too much and ruin Lucifer's Hammer for you??? I worried about that... I have this urge to say behind your name (The white Lion). It was a 70's cartoon series.LOL Am I flamingly giving my age away or what? Do you think we lured MM into buying Lucifer's Hammer yet? LOL!!! Cookie
  14. A question form your city girl, (dep sigh, very wistful Okay back. Does anyone stock natural *alarm* animals like Oleander geese, peahens or vocal dogs? Ummm as your less then silent alarm against intruders. And do you think animal alarms are viable warnings? (would you listen?) Cookie the-eventually-owning-her-own-home-girl
  15. GLENN Karen GLENN The spell police are on to me!
  16. I know third post (blush) But I had to acknowledge My spoof on Karen Green for her cows without knowing all the particulars or frankly admitting I loved her bartering of milk, baked goods etc. She was a cool kitty and I should back off on that. Karen Green was out here? Please entice her back. I promise only to be the joking Cookie never the teaser. I'd love more insight and to express my appreciation , I mean I can comment but would my miami-behind survive a day? LOL . I'll still have my strong opinions, don't get the cookie wrong, but I AM willing to listen and learn. LOL it did sound like whiner land with some of the characters...LOL. Admit it! *grin* Loving attentive Cookie
  17. I forgot to Hug Lowlander hello! I'm a fellow newbie!!! HUGGGGGGGGGGGGGSSSS Cookie
  18. Thank you everyone for the replies, Okay it's a re-run but I:m addicted. ( I took the offered leap from here *w* and saw 2001). But it is addicting but so shortened...almost *TOO* edited and short. I did wonder what brilliance we were missing to get the more *survivor-ish Look* or commonly referred to as Drammaaaaaaaaaa. It was on Weds. Miami time but they had a list on PBS.com. It truly did make *certain people* look catty and cheaters. I'm so jazzed we're all talking!!!! Cookie
  19. Your thinking right Dee!!! Yes, it's an 1979-80's book so don't fault your memory. LOL but it did JAR a generation of us readers. It was that (should have been named "Compound" Maybe Compound Sen. Jellison)) Valley in California and how they stopped everyone at the border and let them explain their *usefulness* to be allowed to enter the secure, safe, productive valley and (are you a animal doctor? Blacksmith? farmer? etc.) The criteria was so harsh I knew I'd be "one-for-the-road".Unworthy to enter, you must leave our valley and go back to the certain starvation and refugee lifestyle. Anyone young and sure our Government would provide went slightly pale after reading this. I'm rereading and it is *sooooo* dated with actual words like"Honkie". but vastly entertaining. But still poignant. It reminds.. "what skills do I offer other then a strong back?" I need to stop as I don't want to *ruin* the book but yes...that STUCK in my mind as a teen. Gooooooood reference Chica! Cookie
  20. Hey MM!!!! I can start the review! It was originally written in 1977 so you have to contend with pre-personal computers...LOL. But it basically deals with a huge comet spliting up into pieces and slamming into earth at more then one spot. Earthquakes, unbelievable tidal waves (One hits in the Pacific)Climate wise, the beginning of a new ice age. It follows several main characters (you need a score card! LOL) and how all of them survive and head for one valley, one santuary and then the battle to keep that santuary versue rampaging hoards, refuges and starvation. The author's descriptions were so believably vivid that when hollywood did those two disaster films recently they borrowed visual ideas from this book. How's that for a start? Gee, can you tell it's one of my favorite books? And like Becca Anne, it got me thinking what would I do in that situation? Does that give you a good idea? LOL Cookie
  21. OH!!! and soon to meet my new and only niece Lila...and I haven't REALLLLLLLLLLLY been already spoiling...not a lot..often. Cookie-aunt-on-a-shopping-mission
  22. Okat, admit it, you were humming the song while typing this...LOL. Favorite things...so many!!! Good friends and good family Midnight Jasmine wafting in my window Riotous Bougenvilla in 4 colors spilling over the wall and claiming it. Having the apartment/modem/channel changer to myself while my roommate is out of town. ( I may even *gasp* after showering, throw a towel on the floor...well maybe not what if the landlord came in?). Waking early enough to silence and a sleeping city and drinking it in. Moonlight full and luscious a good cup of tea, a book, scones and NO ONE knowing your home. Friens like voi! Cookie
  23. Westie!!! (Can I call you that??) You are simply living the life I hope to one day achieve right down to various practical animals and free space. Oh, I'm not saying it's not tough living with massive chores...I'm just looking at my apartment in deep Miami and ...sighhhhiiinggg. Wistfully. My Mantra is someday, someday. Enjoy now for the good things I have. I laughed out loud over the *hormonely challenged* teen daughter. Been there, did that, created gray hairs for my mother while rolling my eyes and wearing inappropriate tee-shirts. (I am going to end up calling my Mom tonight and reminding her I love her..aren't I?). Your life sounds very good as do you. Thanks for the visual imagery of you, your life and home. CooOOOOooool. The wistful Cookie
  24. Am I the only person on the planet not to know about this show on PBS? I watched for the first time last night. Consider mixing the TV show Survivor with 5 families trying to live in the style of 1800's montana. They (chosen out 5000 families apparently) are given a track of land (20 georgeous acres of pristine Montana earth), some tools, limited $$ to make initial purchases of things like animals, tools etc. It's been going on since April and I'm wondering how to get back chapters. They have rules and such, they have to endure the elements and original homestead living. I wanted to smack one of the guys for whining on having beans with every meal thinking some homesteaders would have loved a steady food source to supliment their meals. I'm not sure what they win but I'm guessing it's the homestead all itself??? Finally, Ironically, having lived on a ranch in my youth I was startled at the one family's buying up all kinds of animals specially cows. (Nice but do you know how much hay you'll have to HAND mow? EEEK! Get back to me please if you know more. Later I'll raid PBS on info and backgrounds. The living-vicariously Cookie
  25. Hola!!! Becca Anne and I dropped into a side discussion about fascinating books with survival themes. Like in light of the coming asteroid NT7, have you ever read Lucifer's Hammer? I'm sure everybody knows the Left Behind series. Another *dated* but still fascinating book is Pat Frank's "Alas Babylon", it's set in 1962 but how they deal with everyday life without electricity etc is cool reading. I just found a beat up copy of John Nahmlos' "Survivors" and am now on a mission to locate the rest of the series. Do you have more titles? Authors? Ideas? Cookie in ready-mode
