  1. Good grief!!! I meant drawstring pants...like beachcombers and such. Howwww embarrassing a typo. LOL!!! I'm going to try to write deco drive's Belkyes to see if she can get channel seven to post the pics. Or give me some designer's websites to give examples of Prairie chic. or quietly drop it and go on to another subject. ------------------
  2. About Goats, One of my work pals told me his parents used a moveable fence and used the goats to "mow" their 10 acres. Moveable fence?... Mowing goats? I seem to remember the Germans in Darmstadt talking about the local college using shepards and goats to *mow* the campus. okay, just voicing, Cookie blushing
  3. "series" Darn, we need *spell check* out here..LOL
  4. I've appreciated and frankly marveled (read this as goggled-eyed) some of your replies as to the creatures inhabiting your homestead and their usefullness.I'm still giggling over some discriptions. I must inform you that I realistically can't afford (even via VA loan) a good spread for at least a year, but you know my heart's eye (Grin) is roaming and dreaming. And better to ask, right? I have to take into account FLA.'s harsh sun and rains but it's ability to make gardens lush. I must balance my own ability NOT to make animals pets to a balanced productivity. (I keep seeing the frontier serries and the kid that cried over the chickens and the pet pig) I love your views! Please keep telling me things. I know I'm clueless, but I am grateful. your goofier but sincere pal, Cookie ------------------
  5. I'm on a mission to find you a recipe, but my salsa making friends say "save it? why not eat it nowwwwww?" Everything I encounter is for immediate party use... Just a note to let you know your not being ignored.... warm hugs, Cookie clueless but on a mission...LOL ------------------
  6. I will simply add my WOOHOOOOOO cheers with the gang. Just a major hug and still sending prayers and well wishes, hokey-as-usual-your-pal Cookie ------------------
  7. This was the great joy and happy topic at my work. I think America needed such great news, I know we did. Cookie
  8. I love cottons, light shirts, drawstring pantys. I also like some of the new materials like Solumbria for people with fair skin. I still have to *dress* for work and some evenings out... but we all know where my secret heart is even if Cat thinks I'm clueless. Okay cluess-more-then-usual. BTW I wrote channel seven and they blaise told me, no not printing the picks. GRRR. Cookie ------------------
  9. I must thank you all, I've enjoyed hearing about your various amazing manageries. Can you tell me if you have a favorite kind of animal? what's most difficult to raise, what is most accomodating? The reason I ask is I'm hoping to eventually move to Homestead (good name for a city ,huh?) and acquire. Rabbits sound good, I thought about ducks but people tell me their too noisy and such... A goofy Cookie question... got one brief funny "darn ANIMAL!!" story? Cookie avidly listening
  10. I bunch shoulders with reci on this, If she feels it, well, then I'll add prayers, hugs and well wishes. and if all is well besides... then ..LOOK! You have the extra gal pal back up!! (thinking reci is looking over and rolling her eyes at me) Cookie
  11. CAGMomof2, brief hug on coooooool on the renewing vows (know it's out of place here but sOOOOOoooooOOOOo cool!). Cookie
  12. Girlfriend! ¿Hola! Que tal? You evoked many memories of times spent with my Grandmother on holiday to Yeadon,PA in the 60's and early 70's. The whole house was from the 20's and she did everything to a pattern even to "how" we kids were to hang sheets on a line and "airing" out clothes and stripping beds in fear of bedbugs if we're going to be gone on long holidays. How my cousin got lice from borrowing a hat and she took care of it with Karosene of all things!(bad spelling, sorry). How I thought it was perfectly normal to set out a tea set and the family relax at certain times. Gee, is some of my heritage guess-a-ble? LOL But there was a bunch of practical knowledge to be had. I only wished I listened more. I do wish I could see the series you spoke of...arghhhh in jealousy. *wink* Cookie Irrelevent but nice ------------------
  13. Still here, still sending love, hugs, prayers for you and your Mom. Still willing to grab you and drag you off when worries get to be "feeling overwhelming" when your in the *twilight zones*. Waiting rooms, hospital rooms or just worrying, etc. Ick, don't need to go on on that!Ick, ewww! Sorry I brought it up. Your ARE beloved, girlfriend, get used to it. *g* Will we try to distract you from worries? Most likely. This is probably a given. Everyone else is more articulate, and their true warmth shines through. Some of us have talents in distraction and making you think of other things. (looking innocent, blink blink). Like talKing about books and well.. anyway, ummm hugs, Cookie (clueless but with a good heart) ------------------
  14. Aunt Meanie, I go with you completely, the kids seemed to flesh it out so well. I love the kids versus either egg laying or cow milking. *g* I think they needed more episodes considering all the huge demands and changes everone went through. somthing more in-depth. I think they under estimated the appeal. (((Westbrook!!)))))) Thanks for the reference, I'm on it and hello Half.com. *g* Pssssst should we tell Mare about it? She is the Alaskan expert. Miami-does-alaska-homesteading...film at 11:00. Lowlanderrrr, thanks for the descriptions, Please keep them up, it sounds fascinating, the river cottage and all.I was really fascinated by the WW1 house idea also... what's your favorite? Hugs to all, Cookie exhausted from work but loving seening the posts ------------------
  15. smarty CAT!!! LOL, No silly, Just that anything that wasn't A.navel exposing or B. made of polyester caught their eye. I found that AMAZIIINNNGGGGG. I am not THAT clueless. I'm aware that no one is in full pocohantas dress while going to Walmart or daycare. Smarty brat Cat. Just so that you don't think everyone here is wearing a bikini or thong to work. *lifted eyebrow and raspberry*:eyerolls: But hearing scathingly skinny models gushing over their ryder jeans was just a bit much for me. Cookie ------------------
  16. So far, I've found out it's a segment called fashion forward but is still not realising pics! I did watch the segment and had to put a hand over my mouth on the proper way to wear your blue jean jacket with a long skirt. Even though they had horses and such decore, I thought the scrub palms in the background didn't quite work. *w* Cookie ------------------
  17. I went and checked the website but it just keeps saying show at 10 darn it...LOL. Cookie I'll check back later ------------------
  18. It's finally happened, Deco Drive, a superficial, fashion driven Miami show (watched by all the designers, fashion types etc) has decreed that western/prairie clothing is THE *IN* thing. (www.wsvn.com) That's right, your cutting edge. The real show (I know Darlene is on the floor giggling by now) is on at ten tonight but I almost spit my tea at seeing the "the previews" this morning of designer doe-skin shirts, fringe, cotton drawstring, prairie skirts and teal cowboys boots (okay, I can't say too much there, I own teal cowgirl boots..LOL). Just because you can't wear leather fringe or sheep skin jackets till Dec. down here means nothing, IT'S FASHION!!!!!! Cookie ------------------
  19. I went goggle eyed when you mention the variety of animals you have. I can only imagine what feeding the whole lot is like. Since I live in the part of country where all we have is Dec.,Jan and Summer.LOL I tend to forget having seasons and the idea of animals that go with them. Your place sounds great, Cookie ------------------
  20. Ooooh Westbrook, please let me know what you find out!! Alaska would be so cool to see. It's $50 bucks for the series? Darn... tempting though. BTW I mentioned it at work and a woman I'd never think would care about this subject brought me the april 2002 Better homes and Gardens article on our frontier show. (A friendly much more compassionate version of an interview.) Hey Lowlander, any word on the cost of the river cottage series? It sounds fascinating. Please all accept my apologises on my typos. Hugs! Cookie ------------------
  21. Grin , a hug and a treat for the dancing puppy, Thanks Lois, goofy but good hearted Cookie
  22. Hi DI!!!! Cool go for it, it was written by a team, Jerry Pournelle & Larry Niven. Half.com has cheap copies. (who cares if the cover is a little frayed right?) After you get it and read it let's do a *spoiler* thread meaning anyone reading it will get too much info but then you can say if you thought you'd make into the valley.LOL. So far I am amassing a good pile of "how to" books so maybe I could buy my way in? Hugs, Cookie ------------------
  23. Hugs and Laughter for you both, ((((Da "G"Mom, Darlene Da "homegirl")))))) I just worry when my concern swings into preachy. (I can be the new super hero LOL "it's preachy woman to rescue and she has her soap box to stand on"!!! insert crowd roar here) Part of it is a loving family friend- Gabe who works for the Miami school board (Yes, Darlene you may cringe, he is the last honest person working for them..LOL) actually had chest pains in his 36 year old heart!!! Stress? what stress? And was more concerned with failing his family and not completing his mission. I told him his epitaph was "But he always got the boys to daycare on-time". ROFL I love G-Mom that you have such a great family that protects you and loves you. That's the best. When you do Job Service, consider this, look into the state and federal jobs. A friend of mine *gracefully* 60+ landed a cool job helping visitors find hotel rooms and site seeing. Her last tour was at Daytona 500. Tell me that is NOT cool? LOL. Okay, concern girl will behave. hugs again to you both, The flaming cookie ------------------
  24. MM are you getting the book? enquirering Cookies want to know;D ------------------
  25. I'm embarrassed, It's just this is a speech some loving friends gave ME over working in a craft store as opposed to finally getting a degree. I got brave and went for full time school and actually have two degrees (One is obviously not in English do to my prolific typos..LOL). I have a decent job (but still expanding even though I am soon to be the *gasp* 40 . lOL). I just wanted you to know I wasn't badmouthing you, just concerned and zealously giving you my point.LOL. You may box my bad girl ears anytime. *w* Hugs and a fan of you, Cookie ------------------
