  1. No, the alcohol dissipates.

    Here's the recipe I use:

    brandied fruit

1 cup canned peaches, cherries, pears, or pineapple, drained

    1 cup sugar

Add 1 cup fruit and 1 cup sugar every two weeks. Sitr with wooden spoon every few days. Needs no refrigeration.

    brandied fruit cake

    1 cup butter, melted

    1 3/4 cup sugar

    2 eggs

    3 cups flour

    1 tsp baking soda

    1/4 tsp salt

    1/4 tsp cloves

    1/4 tsp allspice

    2 cups brandied fruit

    1 cups pecans, chopped

Mix butter, sugar, and eggs. Sift dry ingredients and add to butter mixture. Add fruit, then nuts. Mix well after adding each ingredient. Pour into greased and floured tube pan.

Bake at 350 degrees F for 1 hour

Remove from pan at once. Wrap in foil while hot. Freeze for 2 weeks before serving.

  2. It's a glorious day here in Nashville. Did you know we've had more rain this spring than we've had in 112 years?????

Well, with summer upon us it's finally feeling a bit more "normal". My gardens are blooming like gangbusters, too.

What are your plans for the weekend? I think we're doing a yard sale. I also have to do another walk-through on a real estate investment property we're buying.

    Hope your weekend is GRAND!

  3. I think it's an excellent idea. Would the 2 of you be able to work as a team? I'm asking simply because some folks are more comfortable with women cleaning their homes.

Is he a good handyman? He could also be a "Husband for Hire". I remember a guy that put up signs that said exactly that and he created quite a business for himself -- doing minor odd jobs around the house for women who didn't have a man around.

  4. Here ya go:

    Meatloaf to Die For

    Mix together:

    2 pounds ground beef

    1 egg

crumbs from 2 slices fresh white bread (grind in blender)

half a large bell pepper, diced

    4 large raw carrots, grated

    milk (2% or skim okay)

    V8 juice

    Worcestershire sauce

    salt and pepper

Notice that this doesn't call for onion (for those who don't like it) but you can add it if desired; and with the liquids, you have to estimate it so you have about an equal amount of each and enough to moisten the mixture but not make it sloppy wet. Pack this into a loaf pan and bake it at 350F for about an hour. Scrub and fork stab potatoes and throw them in at the same time and in an hour you have a complete meal.

Serve this with ketchup. And if you can find hot ketchup at the store, men go nuts over it on big slabs of this meatloaf...

    (from Kay)

PS -- I definitely add onions and a few other goodies.
