  1. I stood out by the main road all day today waiting for her to fly by in her car. I'm only about about an hour from Chatty. I never saw her. Maybe she took a more eastern route. I'll keep an eye out again tomorrow. Fran..if you see this honk when you go by.

  2. I've had lots of small ups and downs in my life. There is something wrong with someone who tells you they've never had problems. I try to be upbeat so I refuse to let "little" things get to me. Unfortunately, I've had 2 terrible periods in my life where I almost "caved". It just seemed like things would never let up. A couple of years ago I had so many deaths and illnesses in my family I was starting to feel like Job. I guess these rough spots help us appreciate what we do have when things turn around.

  3. I thought mine was supposed to be on all the time since DH is always in the car with me! Sorry, couldn't resist. I know he'll never see this since he hates puters.

  4. My best friend was a member. I know here in the local chapter they had a pot of money. Each one chipped in a buck a week and whoever lost the most weight the past week got all the money. My friend just loved going. I went once but I never did join. At the meeting I attended they focused more on personal problems than they did diet plans. They were VERY good in NOT making anyone feel bad about themselves. Very positive attitudes even for those who weren't losing weight.

  5. Sorry. I just got kicked out of chat. Don't take it personal now. When I tried to get back in, it told me I was already in. So, I made up another name to fool it and get in, but it wouldn't let me. Darn..now that I know Ed is REALLY an eligible bachelor I can't even talk to him. (Wink, smirk etc) I'll keep trying. Wish me luck

  6. I spent so many hours around him while I was growing up, but I could never unlock the person behind the fixed gaze.

You can look at photos taken years ago. He never smiled or even frowned. He was just there. Blank and expressionless. Like his life.

He seldom, if ever, laughed, hugged, cried, sang, or played.

His life consisted of his job. Followed by dinner, the recliner, the news, and sleep. To be repeated almost every day. No joy, no regrets, no nothing.

He was handsome. He was tall and muscular. He was technically brilliant. Yet he was like an island wherever he went.

He had no friends. He had a wife and children who wanted nothing but his approval. It would never be given. Later he had two beautiful grandsons he would never hold or try to get to know.

When his company downsized, they made him retire. He had nothing. No other life. His family had gone on without him. It was too late to change. He simply curled up in his bed and died.

I hope he's at peace now. Today I think about this man. It's his birthday. Happy birthday Dad.

(I'm not trying to be depressing here but thought it might remind all of us to stop and smell the roses)

  7. I don't know if it's the same in other locations but our local Salvation Army store has new brand name clothes that were on clearance and didn't sell at local department stores. Yesterday, a friend of mine picked up a Bill Blass blazer with about 7 mark downs on the department store tag for only 2$. The original price was 125$ Brand new and beautiful. She's gonna wear it for Christmas since it is red.

  8. It was rough all around us for about 5 hours last night. About an hour south of us and about an hour north of us people were killed. I debated about getting DH up and going to the basement a few times but the cells would just veer off when they got near us. I am relieved for us but so sorry for the people who lost their homes and loved ones. On the bright side our brand new piggies that we got yesterday are very laid back. Didn't bother them a bit.
