About lozza.123

  1. From what I know (we freeze a lot of whole milk) make sure it freezes pretty fast. If you let it go at a slow freeze, the fats sometimes will go to the top. But even if that happens all you need to do is shake it really good once it thaws.
  2. Thanks everyone! Okay, as for the cats... when we first moved out here 3 years ago into the country, we were overrun with mice. So we started off with 2 cats. The plan was ONLY 2 cats. A friend of ours has to move and can't take his cat with him, so we take her in. A month later we realize this cat is pregnant! We ended up keeping 2 of that litter and got mama fixed. So we were up to 5 cats. "No more cats," hubby says. Time passes, hubby comes home... WITH A CAT. Well, a starved kitten he nearly ran over. So we take that one in. Cat number 6. A few more months go by and one of my black cats goes missing. We were headed out for a drive that day, get about 1/2 down the country road and I see our cat, all scrawny and ill looking. We take kitty home. It was not our kitty. Cat number 7. Hubby, Mr. "No More Cats" himself, goes to work one day. Comes home with another pregnant stray he found at his job site. Cat number 8. Cat number 8 gives birth to 6 kittens. Kittens get new homes within 2 weeks or so. We can't help it. Being here in the country, a lot of people dump their unwanteds. We take them in, get back to health, get them fixed. If they hang around, they hang around. If not... we'll at least they are fixed and won't create anymore ferals. I love my kitties!
  3. Sounds so good! I have wild black berry bushes in my yard and they stopped producing so early this year. But I ended up with 4 gallons of frozen berries! I had a pint leftover from last years crop, so we eat a LOT of them. My youngest just likes them straight from the freezer, while the other two kids need some sugar with them.
  4. Hello everyone! I stumbled upon these boards last night while searching for the winter forecast from the Farmer's Almanac and my search came up with a long post from here. It was so interesting that I was here lurking for about 4 hours last night! don't ask!), 1 dog, and 1 bird. We are relatively new to "survival" and hope to learn a lot from here!
