  1. I posted this someplace but, can't find it. I saw a link on instructables about folding plastic grocery store bags in the same way you would fold a flag at the end of the day. I have a gallon ziploc storage bag to store them in and am fast approaching quadruple capacity with more room to go as opposed to just cramming bags in.

  2. Screaming Eagle, Pet stylists use vinegar at 1 cup per gallon as a rinse to "clarify" the hair (remove build up) and close the cuticles making the hair shinier. You have to rinse again with plain water to get the salad smell out of the hair. Baking soda does have abrasive effects which is great if one has flaky skin but also is an alkali which mixes which the oil in your scalp and helps "lift" the excess oils to be rinsed away with water. HTH!

  3. Potato Lasagna

1 lb ground beef browned with onion and garlic to taste. I use about 1/2 cup onion and 1-2 cloves garlic (depends on the vampires around here. Ha Ha)

16 oz tomatoes sauce, whole tomatoes I have even used salsa on occassion. Mix with ground beef as if a good spaghetti sauce (you can use more if you like your lasagna saucy.

1 container cottage cheese or ricotta

Mix with 1 egg and parmeasan to taste. About 1/2 cup or to taste.

Mushrooms, zuchinni, or any type of veggie you can get your family to eat. I often use spinach. I also mix veggies. Trying to get that 5 servings into my family.

Potatoes - In my 11x13 pan I use four to five sliced thinly. I often precook the potatoes in boiling water to soften and shorten cooking time. If you do that you boil for about 10 minutes to "half cook" them. You don't want them falling apart.

Layer potatoes, cottage cheese/ricotta mixture. Put potatoes on top. Add sauce with meat. Add shredded cheese mixture (Mozarella, chedder or a mixture of both) continue layering until all ingredients gone. Top with cheese.

Bake at 350 for about 35-40 minutes or until cheese is brown and mixture is bubbly. Serves 4 or so. Serve with hot french bread and a nice green salad. Enjoy.

I'm making this tonight. I went to .99 only and bout 4-4 oz containers of cottage cheese with active culture for .99. That's a buck a pound. I used it to make stuffed shells. It was awesome. I'll use the rest to make this meal.

  4. Be careful with some of the books printed before 1990 since all canning recipes and instructions changed after that date to deal with the Botulism issue. What may be a good deal at first may lead you down the wrong road.

I was gonna ask which version of the blue book to get and how we know the difference.

  5. I have found it easy to make Hot process in the mold soap by setting my wooden mold on top of a cookie sheet and placing it in the trunk of my car in the late afternoon about an hour or two before sundown in summer and removing if in the morning. I found that if I place the mold in the car in the morning it gets too hot too long in the Texas sun and boils over. Can someone please edit the recipes from "1 can of lye" to a specific weight or measurement?
