nosleepinghere
In cleaning out MIL attic here while back found lots of stuff. Several boxes jars and two books of old recipes pasted from newspaper clippings. Haven’t tried this yet but do like sauerkraut. Sauerkraut Relish 1 cup diced celery 1 green pepper – diced 1 medium onion – chopped 1 small can of sauerkraut – drained ¼ cup wine vinegar ¾ cup sugar Combine sugar and vinegar and bring to a good boil then pour over other ingredients. Cool and serve as a relish for meats. While I’m at it…. on the same page is recipe for banana jam. Banana Jam 6 medium ripe bananas 1 – 4 oz jar maraschino cherries, drained and chopped 1 lb. 4 oz can crushed pineapple 7 ½ cups sugar 1 bottle Certo (pectin) Crush bananas in large kettle, add cherries, pineapple with sugar and syrup and mix well. Bring to a rolling boil over medium heat, stirring often. Let stand 3 to 5 minutes, removing film and stir two or three times to keep fruit from floating to top. Ladle into jelly glasses and immediately cover with 1/3 of paraffin. *need Domestic Goddess or someone to convert pectin amount and also tell me how to can without paraffin* Thanks! Link to comment
