Darlene
When the sales manager at a dealership that sells cars and motorcycles was asked how many vehicles he sold last week he said, "We sold 30 motors and 100 tires." From this information, calculate the number of motorcycles sold and the number of cars sold. ------------------ Ready. Start. Guest Guest
DOn't read this one unless you've already calculated!! I *think* I have it right! But then, I could be wrong. I hated word puzzles for grades in school, but now I think they're like "mental gymnastics"... and they're FUN! Did you get it yet?? Here's my answer... 20 cars, 10 cycles... ------------------ [This message has been edited by Cat (edited October 07, 2002).] Quote Link to comment
Guest Guest
All I can say is --- you ladies sure have more mental energy than I have this early in the morning! Quote Link to comment
Guest Guest
I'm no math wizz, but enjoy a good challenge once in a while...I think he was selling 20 cars (20 motors, 80 tires) and 10 motorcycles (10, 20 tires). Is this the correct answer? ------------------ Give thanks to the Lord for He is good, and His love endures forever! Quote Link to comment
Darlene
I think I shall give the other geniuses here another 24 hrs to chime in. BTW-you Einstein's who already checked in---HOW did you arrive at your answer??? Quote Link to comment
Goose Liver
I am definately not a math wizard, but here is what I calculated 30 motorcycles = 60 tires 100-60=40 the remainder must have been cars 40 divided by 4 = 10 So 30 Motocycles and 10 cars I'm I right? ------------------ Quote Link to comment
logcabinmama
Well, either Cat or Birgie is correct. So, this way, I don't have to give a different answer. You all have a great day now. ------------------ Quote Link to comment
Darlene
Your answers are correct. HOWEVER, your methodology leaves much to be desired. (Oopppppppppppppps! THAT is the teaher in me "coming out"). Let C=the number of cars Let M=the number of motorcycles C + M = 30 M = 30 - C 4c + 2M = 100 4C + 2(30 - C) 4C + 60 - 2C = 100 2C = 40 C = 20 M = 30 - C M = 30 - 20 M = 10 Quote Link to comment
Guest Guest
I'm a little embarrased...It never even occured to me to see what math solving way there was for coming up with a solution...at least not like that! It was kind of fun, though! Thanks for sharing it! ------------------ Give thanks to the Lord for He is good, and His love endures forever! Quote Link to comment
Guest Guest
You did not take into account spare tires?..Always "one of those" in the class! ------------------ Quote Link to comment
