  1. We're thinking of going to Arizona this winter. My brother told me that some dogs in the nearby areas have been dying from Valley Fever.

Is this really a concern? Darlene? Gunplummer? Anyone?

I hadn't ever heard of this in our neck of the woods........

I would rather not take pets, but we may not have a care giver for fur babies for an extended length of time.

  2. More good news! My old kitty will be twenty this summer she is purring on top of me as I point with the stylus. I check her often during a day because I can hardly believe she is still going. My prayer for her is that she lives long enough to enjoy some warm sunny days this summer. My prayer for you and your fur baby is that you may enjoy many years of sunny days together!

  3. I have too many to print. Do a search on DIY health/Beauty products. Pinterest is full of them. It is mostly coconut oil, and/ or some other carrier oil, and beeswax, with medicinal essential oils/herbs mixed in. My first attempt at lotion was from here and I have done numerous others since investing in some essential oils. They do wonders. I think the topic that was started here was on soap making, and the original lotion I made contained lavender, lemon oil, and tea tree oil. You can prepare whatever you need.

  4. I said the horse was one of my heart songs. She was also a very foolish financial mistake in my spendy days. I purchased her on a whim (after I had received an inheritance from my Dad's estate)

Dh was shocked when he came into the arena and heard my name announced as the buyer of the top selling filly. I told anyone that thought I was crazy for buying a heavy horse and spending so much that, "Daddy" and I bought her together!!! That horse gave us the same thrill to be near her for the next twenty years. It wasn't so thrilling to pay for her up keep, feed, farrier, and vet bills but we just couldn't let her go.

Thank you so much for the welcome back and the caring about us. Yes, the weather has been cold but we don't have the snow we had last year, and I seem to be doing better with winter this time around.

I make sure to do self care for ME! That makes it easier on dh too because I don't fly off at him - my mood stays leveled out if I can get away for some play time and sunshine. It won't be until April-----but I'm looking forward to cutting grass.riding horse and going camping.

  5. I found my friends again. Every time I would log into Mrs. Survival, the first to come up in a Google Search, I would get a virus warning and be blocked. I quit trying but have been in withdrawal since before Christmas I do believe.

It feels so good to SEE everyone again.

We had a lovely Christmas. Our land sold and we were paid out in January. We still live in our home because we subdivided it out of the five quarters that sold.

My beautiful big ( heart song) Percheron went down last Sunday. We couldn't get her up, so the vet came with a syringe. It was a difficult day because it was so very cold -38 with the wind chill, and storming with near zero visibility for most of the day.

Eden was so big that dh and I both together couldn't lift her head up for her. We did use the front end loader to hoist her up to a, not flat out, but rather a sitting up position, but her back legs wouldn't come up under her and she couldn't support herself. What hurt the most is that we didn't know how long she had been down because we hadn't seen her since the morning before ---- and she didn't look sick her eyes seemed, to me, to be bright and clear. Treatment wouldn't have worked for colic, because the fluids would freeze in the tubes before they could be administered and she would have had to have been up any way. I keep wondering if she may have had a selenium dificiency that the Vet didn't want to be bothered trying to treat because it was so cold out. She gave us nothing but joy all the years we had her and I miss seeing her every day.

Our real estate agent gave us a gift certificate to the Mineral Spa hotel nearby so we spent a lovely week end there. That is it for any spending until we can figure out how to invest properly. I find it worrisome, living on my bus income and part time work for dh, but trust things will be fine. I know we will always have what we need.

I'm off now to read up on everyone and catch up.

Cat is it my computer only, or would others be coming up with this same virus warning on the first link?

  6. I was quite nice on Saturday so I was able to ride out to the coulees, and see all the deer that were hiding from the hunters. The deer aren't

quite as concerned about you being on horseback, or maybe they are just confused, so they don't go far before they stop to check me out.

Dh went out looking for me twice because he could hear gun shots from here in the yard. Hindsight tells me I should have been on the flats but at least I"m here to wonder about my carelessness.

We had some unpleasant news last evening, Our neighbor went to a med clinic for cold and flu like symptoms and was called back to the hospital. She has lukemia, which we hope has not traveled to her bones. Apparently if they don't catch it in time it is terminal.

She was quickly started on chemo and had THREE attempts at getting the bone marrow test done but I haven't asked what her results were. I did canvas the community for meals for the family for the month of December (that we know she will have to stay in hospital). It was a big grocery shop today and will be a big cooking day ahead.

We need to go to the city again in the morning to sign transfer papers for the sale of our farm.

I need things to settle so that I can get busy on our financial records, I make excuses to put if off and then real stuff gets in the way.

Hope every one is having a decent winter. I haven't been following the board too closely so I really don;t know what has been going on here lately.

Mt Rider I would love to ride with you but it would take me the rest of my life getting there at the walk that my old guy (horse not dh) and I do.

  7. New Tricks Jeepers? Did you know you can make your own version of rice a roni in whatever flavor you like, and package for your needs. It is/was far less expensive than $1 per box and you don't have to deal with the manufacture packaging and chemicals.

  8. You are asking for help ------------just keep asking for it until you get what you need. Depression takes such a toll on your life, and the lives of those around you.

Indeed, we will be praying, but don't stay "under siege", (borrowing Stephanie's words). You need to make a move, God will direct your path.

    Hugs.
