  2. Depends on who on You Tube your watching as to whether I would trust it or not. I have a few ladies on there that I like and trust their methods.

Never heard of recanning OJ myself though. You can safely can oranges, grapefruit and other citrus fruit. And you can also can other fruit juices.  Might want to do a little research or contact Ball and ask about it.

  3. Jeepers - Was that the Australian lady She's a Bottler's video?  I saw that recently and wondered about it too. Basically she is just pickling the veggies so it should be okay I guess.  Like the piccalilli relish on the Ball web site -https://www.freshpreserving.com/piccalilli-relish-|-piccalilli-relish-recipe---ball-fresh-preserving-br1134.html

I personally think it would be a bit soggy and too vinegary for my taste.  I like my cole slaw crunchy and more sweet than vinegary.

  4. Ever since I started canning, we can't find a commercial brand spaghetti sauce that we like anymore. We're out so I need to make more this summer. Thankfully still have some canned tomatoes so I can make a sauce and add what I want as far as seasonings.

  5. Hi Ladies,

I need your expert opinions on the recipe for strawberry syrup at this site - http://jamiecooksitup.net/2016/06/how-to-make-canned-strawberry-syrup/

Does this look to be a safe recipe to can? I'm thinking it is since its got the fruit, sugar & lemon juice, but wanted to double check because it is different from the recipe in the Ball Blue book and their web site. Ball calls for corn syrup to be added. I really don't want to put corn syrup in mine. :yuk: Ball also doesn't have the tablespoon of butter, but I figure that for the foam.

    Would ya'll use this recipe?

  6. I've always used distilled water with my neti pot. I pop it in the microwave for 20 -25 seconds to warm it up. Much better than cold.

Been using it quit a bit lately since our weather here is acting like it's spring. We had a high of 79 the other day. My Azaleas are blooming.

  7. When I store my dehydrated fruit/veggies in 1/2 gallon canning jars, I only use The FoodSaver vacuum sealer attachment to suck out the air with no oxygen absorber and I've never had any of the food go bad. I'm thinking she might be right.

I store dehydrated apples in quart jars and seal the them same way. No problems.

As for potatoes - I dehydrate sweet potatoes for dog treats. I spray them with a little coconut oil. They discolor some, but not that much. I've never tried regular potatoes.

  8. I'm late in seeing this, but very sorry to hear about this happening to ya'll. I hope your wife is ok and that they catch these guys.

    Prayers for you both.

Good reminder to always remain vigilant. I just took a self defense class a couple of weeks ago. I'm going back next week to get my permit to carry a baton too. That will be in addition to my CC.

  9. Hubby put me some cold frames over the strawberries and spinach. :D

Would you believe I picked a ripe strawberry the other day?! Got spinach coming in now, but something is chewing up the leaves. Can't see any worms/caterpillars. I know it's not deer. Pulled the turnips up and gave them to some people for Thanksgiving. Peppers got a frost last week so they're gone. Tomatoes that came up on their own aren't looking so good now either.

Warmed up again but we're starting to have some cooler weather. Going to get some more frost by the end of the week.
