Okay so apparently no one has a relish recipe without onions.
Do ya'll think it would be okay to omit the onions in recipes (Ball Blue Book 2011 page 54) or this Million Dollar Sweet Pickle Relish - http://www.deepsouthdish.com/2013/08/million-dollar-sweet-pickle-relish.html#axzz4EJ7fu6G8 ?

Something ate my first ripping slicer tomato! Only ate half and left the rest. Stupid busy tailed tree rats!

Gonna resurrect this old thread instead of starting a new one. Does anyone have a sweet pickle relish recipe that does not have onions? Hubby hates onions and would not eat this if I made it. I need something closer to what you get with the store bought brands. Got lots of cucumbers coming in and I'm really hoping to use them to make some relish.
Thanks!!

I second Jeepers on the Yukon's. I did some new potatoes a couple of years ago and they did okay. I just like Yukon's better. Haven't tried my hand at growing potatoes yet. Think I will be adding some to the garden next year.

Sorry to hear you didn't like the new Ball Book of Canning. I have a copy and have all sorts of stuff marked that I would like to try. There is a Hearty Chicken Stew canning recipe on page 283. And there are several Simple One Jar Meal recipes for canning that have meat and veggies on page 274-275.
I like that they give you regular recipes to use the stuff you've canned. Especially for those who are new to canning and wondering "okay, what do I do with this now."
I agree that some of the stuff is kind out there and beyond our personal taste buds but it may appeal to others.

Yikes!!! I can not eat hot peppers. I grow them and give them away but not eating them. Not crazy about sweet peppers either.

Jeepers, can the left overs. Lol.
DH insisted I order a pressure canner. Ack! Mom always WB everything. He said things are going to get worse. No relief in site. So, we got an AA, the 2014 Blue Ball Canning book and a Hanes repair book for the little car we bought. 95 and it gets 35 mpg.
Now, I'm going to be researching info and asking a lot of questions. That'll teach me, for not canning anything other than WB and jams/jellies.
Congrats on your new canner, Annarchy! I love my AA.

Looks great WE2!

I've gotten some grape/cherry tomatoes getting ripe now. Lots of green tomatoes. Hope I can keep the bugs and critters away until they're ripe.

I stumbled across this site and thought some of ya'll might find it helpful when your trying to figure up how much produce you need for a recipe. I've been trying to figure out how many pounds of peaches or how many peaches to buy for a recipe.

Well that's not good.

Daelith, the jam sounds so good, and I have some frozen blueberries that need to be used up to make way for fresh. Would you mind sharing your recipe?
I used the recipe at this site - http://www.food.com/recipe/blueberry-lemon-jam-118236
There is also a recipe in The All New Ball Book of Canning and Preserving on page 60.
Got another 5 pints of green beans from my garden canned today.

Add Nature Valley Simple Nut Bars to this list. I got a noticed from Sam's Club to return any uneaten bars and get a refund. Figures they send it after I ate them all.

Made 8 half pints of Blueberry Lemon Jam and got 3 pints of green beans (from my garden) canned this weekend.

Bought a couple of lbs of cherries today and made 2 quarts of cherry pie filling today.

We like lemon pepper wings. Just fry up and then toss in some lemon pepper seasoning.

Been a bit since I reported in. Last weekend I got half a row of Strike green beans (bush) and a whole row of lima beans planted. Both are already sprouting. Put some pepper plants in too.
Tomorrow I have to run to the John Deere dealership and pick up a part I ordered. Since Charlie Girl has to go to the vet for her annuals, I figured I would just take her along too so I don't have to make two trips into town. Have to keep our fingers crossed that Jack doesn't destroy the house while we're gone. Once back I plan on getting the other half row of green beans (Blue Lake Bush) and our cucumbers( Straight Eights and Lemon) planted.
Not sure if I'm ready to put out the tomato plants I started indoors. Though the are certainly getting big enough. I usually wait until May on tomatoes.
Strawberries, lettuce and carrots are doing well.

Going to make a spinach & bacon quiche and an asparagus quiche tonight to take to my Mom's tomorrow. Will probable throw together a pasta salad to with them.

What about those Arizona Tea containers? I don't store water in them, but I do used them to carry water in the car with us for the dogs.
Wonder if they would make a good substitute though.

Love the dollies with the gun! Nice feminine touch.

Got my strawberry plants in the ground this past Sunday. Hoping they didn't wash away with all the rain we had last night. Tossed in a few types of lettuce seeds and some carrots in another bed.

That all looks good.
I've thought about getting a stool that puts me high enough to reach the counter so I could sit while doing the prep work. Still kicking myself for not grabbing the one out of my dad's shop while cleaning out his estate. It would have been perfect.
