The Santa Cruz bottles, I have some that are 96oz, so a bit big for ketchup, IMHO, LOL!! The rest are qt sized, though. Still maybe big for ketchup, but I want to use them for dry goods. So do you think the bottles below will work? They go on with about a half turn or so, & have the tabs like the pic above. Thanks Twilight!

  2. I was reading instructions on dry canning to extend the life of dry goods (oats, rice, flour, etc). The instructions called for using jars with 2 piece lids & something about using old jars (but no details on the latter). This leads me to believe we can also use jars & bottles with lug lids? I have several Santa Cruz Organic juice bottles. Has anyone tried this with lug lids? This is the first time I've decided I want to try this, so I'm hoping I can do this at a low cost. I found mites in a bucket of food, so it's time to try the new.

  3. My newest to me favourite thing! Hubba brought it home, as they were tossing it. I'm on track for having it filled up with goodies SOON! :D

(Excuse the poor cell phone pic. This is in the basement = dark &.... basement-y)

  4.

My college girl home and clean sheets. Life is good. :happy0203:

    This made me smile!

Today was my milk/egg/meat run to the farm, farmers market, went thrifting & hit a yard sale. Got some FAB deals today- vintage-ish GE cast iron waffle maker (electric) $8, brand new Farberware immersion blender (NIB still wrapped with plastic + the accessories) $3, NIB wireless kettle $3, some decor boxes, clothes, some bags/pouches for kits & some misc. I have to go buy taters, can peach butter & putz around for a bit- cleaning & organizing, putting away groceries, inventory, etc. Hot outside, so I have to test the pool, so the kids can swim.

    Life IS good :)

  5. Woofty! In the past week or so, I've canned 62 jars of stuff PLUS 2 that didn't seal PLUS 1 loss- various beans, meat, jams, sauces, etc!! I have cinnamon peach butter to do today, too. I put it in the slow cooker overnight to thicken & will plop it into jars to can, but that's looking to be at least 10 jars of that. Beef stock, I think, is next. I've got my 16qt roaster oven going with beef bone broth. That should be ready Mon. morning to can. I also have a bag of blackberries to make jam with, so that's next week, I hope.

I wish I could do 60+ jars in a day like I used to, but my back doesn't allow it. I'm pretty happy with that in a few days :D

  6. I am subscribed to the Staples emails. I had an email waiting for me this morning for some whopping good deals.

Things like 1 ream Hammermill paper, free after rebate & coupon. Staples brand case of 10 reams- $9.99 after coupon & rebate, pastels ream free after coupon & rebate, photo paper free after both, Scot TP $8.99 after coupon (12 rolls = 36 rolls), 10% off 1 item, etc. I loaded up. They also had the 3-pk hugenormous Puffs tissues for $3.99, paper towels 99¢ each & other GREAT deals.

If you're signed up, check your email. If you're not, sign up at staples.com. I don't know if you'll get it by signing up now, but they send out some good stuff fairly regularly. Also sign up for a rewards program that suits you. Since we homeschool, I have a teachers reward card.

  7. I typically get up around 6:30 each morning. Yesterday, I woke around 6 & today about 20 til. I felt really rested today when I woke up. Got my coffee & sat on the back porch for a bit. I came in & checked email & such, then decided I have an awful lot to can today. I don't have a lot of room in my freezer at the moment, so I've been canning most of my stock & beans. I'm out of cooked beans (or was until yesterday), & I'm tired of running out. I do have some dried, but I like quick & easy, too. I'm on a bean canning marathon.

So I began. I have a small closed off kitchen; it tends to get HOT in there. Even with the ac running & a box fan directed in the kitchen, if I open the window, it allows the heat to escape. After I'd gotten all my pots filled with water & the stove cranked up, the heat began to build. Guys, I was canning by 20 til 7 this morning! I opened my window to the still darkness outside & it was the most pleasant sound of canning.

This morning I canned to the sounds of the crickets & cicadas. I'm still canning, but it's getting light out. The sweet evening/morning sounds of the South are gone. I'll have to remember to rise early again soon & open my windows at dark, so I can can. What bliss are the SIMPLE things!

    Have a blessed day!

  8. After reading a whole bunch & asking on another group, I had decided to go with the citric acid. I'm not overly concerned with colour, so much as knowing mangoes are low acid. I feel better knowing that I added more acid. The thing with the mango is that it was going to be darker anyway with the addition of cinnamon & nutmeg (which I added more of, as usual, LOL). I also added vanilla beans for the cooking time. The jars still turned out fairly bright, even brighter than the mango peach jam I did. Thank you, ladies!

  9. But but but it's on sale. If you don't buy it now you will lose money. Honest.

This little sheepy was sheared just for the sale -------> :sheeple:

Don't let it be in vain!
