  1. I have seen that potato recipe someplace too. I can't remember where. It's bookmarked in my computer that has no internet. It was from a lady who either was, or lives in Mennonite country. Not Homestead Tessie. They do look good though.

Suttons Days used to do quite a bit of rebel canning before she went after Rose Red. People called her out on it and she took down some of her recipes. Speaking of...did you notice she 'grew' dreads all of the sudden? Reminded me that The Kneady Homesteader had dreads put in quite a few months ago. Speaking of...I wish Kneady would remove the old video of her covering over canning jars with a towel, hot out of the canner, when she was a newbie.

Guess in just being picky today.

  2. They are trying to ban gasoline lawn equipment. I think they already did gas leaf blowers in some states. Good luck trying to get me to mow an acre with no mower. Time to get a goat I guess. Maybe I can hook it up to a push mower to pull. Guess that would be a pull mower. Have to figure out a way to hook her up to a snow plow too. Could get complicated.  :grinning-smiley-044:

  3. I'm short too. 5'2" and the new tub comes almost to the top of my knee. I just stood in it.  Lol.  For some reason I don't have a problem with it. It seems easier to get in and out than old regular one. It has a pretty wide...the thing you step over. I'm loving that tub. Or I will when they fix the plug. It's one of those pop up things. They tried to fix it but they say it's defective. There are 4 of those pop-up stoppers here now and 2 of them don't work.

I'm going to get some sort of film on the bathroom window in Indy so I can start using that bathroom.  I also need a new toilet in there. It leaks. I want a new round one. The oval ones hurt my butt. :pout:

  4. Momo, I'm sorry you are having a rough time of it. Medicare isn't what I thought it would be either. I think my supplemental insurance pays more than Medicare. Americans don't get taken very good care of do we? You hang in there girl! It will happen for you. So glad you were approved!  :hug3:

I know what your son went through. My mortgage was sold to Bank of America. I didn't like that. Only good thing is they opened a branch in my town about 5 years ago so I take my checks to them and they send it to California for me. I have one person who works with me so I can call her directly. I guess she is my advisor or what ever. It's been 14 months...

  5. Those are the kind I was talking about. I couldn't get in or out of one. I want a normal tub that bubbles. I thought about one of those soaker tubs but they are too tall. I'd have trouble getting in and out of one of those too. I've seen the regular size jetted tubs at either Lowes or Home Depot, can't remember where I was, and they weren't that expensive at all. My master bath is a little bigger so it could handle one.

Littlesister, my second bathroom is very small too. A little tub, a toilet and a small vanity is about it. I couldn't get a wider tub in there because there is only about 2 inches between the tub and the toilet.

    Those cats.  LOL.

  6. My plans were put on hold today too. I had a lot of errands to run but the construction guys are here fixing my sinks. There are a number of minor issues too. They will have to come back. Drat. I hate workers in the house. I dont know what to do with myself. Especially with no furniture except for my bed. Awkward.  The issue with the fridge was the water wasn't turned on. Problem with the dinning room light was the bulbs weren't dimmer bulbs. I didn't put those bulbs in. Sigh. I'm just on here now trying to look busy.  LOL.

  7. I wouldn't want one of those big ones either. I don't know how people get in and out of them. Seriously. And I'd have to crawl around in one to clean it. I just want a normal size one. When I lie down in the Indy tub, my shoulders touch both sides on the tub.i thought most tubs were standard size. Nope.

The new tub in Ohio is a nice normal size but deep. I can fill it half way up and still get a good soak in it.

I'd like a walkin shower in the spare but then I'd lose the tub. And no room for a separate shower in the master bath.

  8. My lemon balm didn't evade sideways. It did its dirty work underground. I had to do something to keep it out of the neighbors yard.

I plan to go raised beds too. I can't do weeding for long either. I couldn't keep up on the ground. Plus I will have landscaping to contend with too.

  9. Don't know anything about a double pane issue. Only one of my bathrooms has a window. I've been using the one without a window. It's in a hallway between two spare bedrooms.

I couldn't believe how small those bathtubs are in that house. Sheesh. I'd like to get a bigger jetted tub in the master. Not a huge one. Just a normal size tub.

  10. After the experience I have with the mint family, I wouldn't even trust planting a pot half way to China. Once it gets loose, it's a free spirit. It loves to travel.

  11. All I know is to not plant any mint family in the ground. There was lemon balm here in Ohio when I moved in. It was in a small bed between the house and a cement walkway so it was contained in one area.

But, over the years it sent roots under ground and sprung up all over the yard. When it started making its way to the neighbors yard I had to hire a company to come spray for it. First company I hired didn't do any good. Second company is working.  That was  20 years ago and I still have to have them come out 4 times a year to keep the lemon balm controlled. I still see it from time to time. The roots are still there. If I hadn't hired a company to control it, it would have popped up all over my yard. And the neighbors.

Also, I tried to kill the patch by the house but nothing has worked. Round up, weed killers, cutting it to the ground, boiling water, digging it up, salt...it's still there in that little patch.

BTW, Round up was before we knew how bad it is. It's been a 20 year battle with that lemon balm. Smells good though.

  12. Very pretty Euphrasyne.

I have heard of drone peepers too. Nothing surprises me any more.

I'm definitely getting some for my bathroom window. It is sort of hidden from view by the garage but it still gives me the creeps that someone could look in. I think you can see into the bedroom from that window too. I've never used that bathroom because the toilet is broken. Sigh. Other bathroom has no windows.

  13. Thanks for the idea. I bought some of the film for the bottom half of some of my windows. The clear-ish kind where people can't see in during the day but I can still see out. Doesn't help at night though. But I still wanted to see outside during the day. Blinds and curtains over them at night.

But I like the idea of the printed one for my front door! It is a really pretty beveled glass door but I'd like it to offer a little more privacy. Especially if someone walks up to it as it sort of faces the great room. The printed kind would offer privacy without blocking all of the light.

Light isn't much of an issue though because of the two skylights. My small house is bright to say the least.

I love my sky lights unless we were in a blackout situation. Then I'd just hole up in the bedroom area after dark hours. There is a bathroom in there and I could put a mini countertops fridge in there for cold drinks. Maybe a little coffee maker. Someone is too used to hotel living.  LOL.  It would just be for a few hours a day.

Gonna pick out some film for that glass door. Oh, and my bathroom window. Definitely that bathroom window!

  14. Ahhh, here the post is. I looked all over for it. Anyway...

    :sSig_help2:

I'm confused on how to properly store seeds. I've heard, warm dry place, cold dry place, in the garage, in the freezer, in the fridge, in plastic jars, in glass jars, in paper envelopes, mylar, vacuum sealed..no they need to breath. And on and on.

So, once and for all, how do you properly store your seeds for long term survival? I'm about to buy some to replace the ones I lost from water damage.

  15. Awww. Little piggies are so cute. Great price!

Necie, if you see this, could you Bump up the seed post with the pictures you posted. I know you reposted after the first one was lost but I can't find it anywhere. I wanted to ask about seed saving. Or if anyone else sees this a bumpity-bump would be appreciated.

If there's nothing breakable in them, just put them on the landing at the top of the stairs and give them a little "nudge of encouragement" to get gravity to do the work for you.  :STAIRS:   (This is one emoji I never thought I would ever use!!! :24: )

I really thought of that but I was afraid the bags would burst open. They are cheap Dollar Tree trash bags.

I think I'll try it though. It's clothes and towels etc. If it's a bust (literally) you know who is getting the blame don't ya? Midnightmom told me to do it. I'm holding you responsible.   :008Laughing:

  17. Awesome haul Annarchy. Hope I can find some deals in Indy for the freezer too. I feel like I'm missing out and falling further behind. Ugh. Neighbors. You know my story with the creep Jimbo next door. The one who loves me like a third grader needing my attention. :grinning-smiley-044:. I was waiting for you to say they were going to pave a new road for you. Nope. The bread looks lovely! Drama? Us? LOL. Just a major glitch or hack. I don't know which but some of us had trouble signing on. Then we had a reset and lost some posts. But we are smooth sailing...for now.

Sounds like you had an awesome day too Necie. I wish we had a Rural King in my area. None in Indy nor Ohio. I will Google them for Indy though. I don't mind driving a little ways. All we have at both places is Tractor Supply. Seems like I remember a cousin in southern Indiana talking about a farm store that had the word Red in it? It was a long time ago though.

I slept through going to the bank and Olive Garden today. Dang it. My days and nights are messed up again. Maybe tomorrow. I'm so sick of typing on this phone with my fat fingers. Hopefully I can get to Best Buy tomorrow and look at a laptop.

  18. I really need security lights too. I forgot about that. I have one lamp post out in the yard and that's it. It's messed up too. I have to turn it on manually instead of it doing it automatically at dusk to dawn. Then when I do turn it on, it also turns on the porch light. So if I turn the porch light off, the lamp post in the yard goes off too. I don't want either one of them burning 24/7/365. That will need an electrician. $$$

  19. I have been prepping with 'soft' goods in mind for the past couple of years. Things like bath/bed linens. Also health and beauty supplies. I have plenty of clothes to last forever except for jeans.  Also getting my kitchen all supplied. Basically, things that will be shipped from overseas. Which is about everything. I'm concerned with shipping. And China has been shutting down a lot of their factories. We manufacture nothing.

This summer I'm going to concentrate on garden tools and things for the garage.

I have about all I need for inside the house now. But I'm going to have to spend some big bucks on updates like appliances, countertops, toilets and sinks etc. And a lot of outside yard work, that I can't do, needs done this year. That will cost me! The trim on the house needs painted but it can wait another year. All of the window screens need repaired too. I think I can do those myself though.

And I need to do a lot of canning in my spare time.

I never went the storage rental route but when my DIL mother passed, they rented a storage unit to put her stuff in so they could sell her house. DIL doesn't want the stuff but she doesn't want to get rid of it either. So they are paying month after month on stuff no one wants. Now its out of sight... out of mind. That needs addressed.

I have 12 trash bags stuffed full to donate. They are sitting in the hallway staring at me. It will really clear up some space when I get them out of here. Getting them downstairs and out to the garage and into the car is holding that up. I don't wanna.

  20. They haven't paid it all yet. Just $15.000 more. I'm still $47,000 short. Hope son's go ahead and accept the offer so they can stop paying for 2 houses. BTDT.

I can't believe how much stuff is still in this house too. I've pitched and donated so much stuff already. I move stuff around too. LOL. I'm clearing out the bedrooms but as I pack it up I stick it in a walk-in closet. When ever I get the garage cleaned up, the stuff will go out there. :grinning-smiley-044:

  21. Darn Littlesister. It always something isn't it? Something always need to be done. When I get rid of this mess another one is waiting in Indy. Hope it isn't a money pit.  I was just thinking that apartment life doesn't look so bad sometimes.
