  1. I don know how you have managed this long. :hug3:

I was stunned when you said they were in their mid 60's. That is not old by todays standards. Heck, I'm getting close to my mid 60's. I know everyone is different but all this time I was assuming they were closer to their mid 80's.

  2. We finally got some much needed rain too.

One of the Eagle nests I was watching had a tragedy disappointment this morning. One of the eaglets died. It is so sad. I guess the mom and dad are going to just leave it there. Not sure yet. It's not the Decorah one but the one in Canada. It's sort of hard to watch but interesting to see a side of nature, via camera, that we usually aren't able to see. :sad-smiley-012:

    Edited to change a word.

Probably should have used the word 'disappointment' instead of tragedy. There are a lot of things worse than a bird dying in this world today. I was emotional.

  3. Things were quiet here today. The tree guys came and finished up the tree removal this morning. It looks good back there and I MIGHT get a couple of more down this fall. They stacked the wood right on the property though and I have cranky nasty neighbors. Hope a piece of bark isn't touching a blade of their grass. They are that way...

I had some errands to do today but I have a headache and big lump on my head from falling off the bed yesterday. It's no big deal really unless it turns into a migraine. I have too much to do this week for that nonsense. Lump only hurts when I forget about it and touch it.

The weather has cooled down but we could use some rain. Supposed to Friday.

  4. My day started with a BANG. I can't believe it but I fell out of bed. I was asleep and the phone rang. I reached over to the bedside table to pick it up and went right over. I landed on my wrist but fortunately the side of my face hitting the bedside table broke my fall. I'm fine really. A little bit sore though and I feel a headache coming on. More mad than anything. I missed the call which was probably another political call or 'Jennifer' calling yet again to tell me this is my final call (again) to lower my credit card rate. The lamp shade got destroyed so looks like Target is on my list of errands.

On a happier note, yesterday my son was here doing yard work and noticed a clump of dried grass with fuzzy stuff in it. He kicked it to even it out and found a surprise. There was a little hole in the ground with 6 little bunnies all crammed inside. It was one of the cutest things I've ever seen. They are so tiny. Their eyes aren't even open yet. We didn't touch and covered them back over. Son put one of those little folding outside tables over them to shade them and to keep us from stepping on them. Momma put them right out in the open in the middle of the front yard. They are so cute now but will probably grow up to eat all of the new shrubs I'll be planting this year. <_<

  5. Sounds like my washer. Pull the knob out, turn to wash, push the knob in.

I didn't want bells and whistles on mine. More things to forget to do and more things to break down. Then again, when I got mine there were no bells and whistles. It's old too.

Congrats on getting yours started doing their own laundry. I started mine when I told him to always keep his dirty clothes in the basket and turned the right way and I'd do it. One day I did laundry and his basket was empty but his floor was full. He griped one (1) time about his laundry not being done. After that, he learned real fast.

  6. I'm reading Cultivating Hope right now. It's pretty good. About prairie life in 1800's Kansas. It's sort of along the line of My Antonia. It is written sort of like a diary. It was a free Kindle download but I see it's up to 3.69 now. If I see it free again I'll post it or if anyone else sees it post away. It's a good read when it's free.

  7. Hi  And WELCOME!

I've been here awhile and I'm still not sure where to post some things. No problems though. Someone always sees it or the Mods will move it.

Don't be afraid to ask questions. There are no dumb ones. If someone here doesn't know they can at least guide you in the right direction. Sometimes someone will ask what they think is a dumb question and I think, "I never thought of that!"

Where I started here was with the lists. It's in the 'Are You Really Ready' forum under the subforum of 'Survival Library.' I'm a list maker though because some days my 'forgetter' is the only thing that works right.

  8. Last year we had nothing but rain. It started in the spring and went right up to winter. It was the wettest year on record here. We figured we would have a horrible winter because if all of that rain continued to fall in the form of snow...we'd be in trouble. Come winter the rain stopped. We hardly had any snow at all.

It's still too early for us to say if it is dry here yet but we did not have much snow fall or any spring rains to amount to much. Come to think of it, no storms yet either. The few showers we did have were short. So, we could be in for a dry year.

  9. I always had beagles and their floppy ears can be a problem. I would take a damp cottonball and wipe inside her ear about once a week. Alcohol on the ball is suggested but I was always afraid it would sting her. She was used to me messing with her ears though.

She was allergic to grass so skin itchies went along with the ears itching. Usually a round of Prednisone in the spring and again in the fall took care of her.

Also, it could be mites in the ears. I remember reading if you see black gunk in the ears it could be earmites or their waste.

My day was slow. The landscapers came and went. The guy came out for his pay and I found a few more trees in the back that could come down. I felt a little bad about bargaining him down the last time so I'm paying what the asked this time. Plus I told him I'll give him all of my business...which is really quite a lot over the next couple of years.

By landscaping I mean tearing out old old shrubs and cutting down trees. I'll be doing all of the replanting and mulching etc. I do not have a gardener. :icon19:
