  1. I'm not a trusting person. I have an especially hard time trusting men.

    I trusted Ed.

I never met him in person, but after a while, I knew he was the kind of guy I could trust to watch my back. There are just not many men I feel that way about, or have EVER felt that way about.

He was so fiercly protective of all of us, and all of those he loved.

I so appreciated the way he looked out for his father-in-law, remember the incident at the barbershop?

He never hesitated to get physical and downright hostile to protect those he cared about, or those he thought were being treated unjustly (remember the immigrant coworker he was so worried about??), and yet he had this great big tender heart that he sometimes just didn't know what to do with.

He sometimes embarrassed himself by being so gentle, he was afraid it wasn't manly.....I just wish I'd told him how special he was.

  2. Aspartame is a neuro-toxin---per my eye doctor.

It is absolutely toxic to the nervous system. My "lazy eye" condition was considerably worse after a year of drinking Diet Coke.

The doc helped me recover some of my lost vision afterwards.

  3. Thanks Cat, for the links.

Yes, the second one even gives instructions. The Chicken Dance is really big in Ohio. We dance it at every wedding, because even the old folks can get up and chicken dance. It makes everybody laugh, except those who are too much stick in the muds to have fun anyway.

This weekend, there will be the "worlds largest chicken dance" in Cincinnati.

  4. A little late but......

I BELIEVE in you Dee!!! I know you can do this. Just hang in there, the weight will start to drop off again.

I once had a WW group leader who used to tell us this.

Your body is smarter than you are, and it knows what to heal next. Losing weight is part of getting healthy. When you lose weight you free up energy that your body then uses to heal itself. When you're doing everything right, but not losing at all, or not losing as much as you think you should, just remember that your body might be working really hard, reparing an artery, or removing a teaspoon of fat on a heart valve.

That could be the most important teaspoon of fat you ever lose........

    Hope that helps! grin.gif

  6. No, you must not make ornaments that are fragile.....no, no, no, it would be a very bad thing.... frown.gif

....and you must not believe the USPS when they tell you that they will "hand cancel" your packages.

If you write "Please hand cancel" on them and pay extra to insure their safe delivery, it only insures that they will do the chicken dance on your ornaments. rolleyes.gif

You will have to make new ornaments......and pay extra yet again to have them mailed, "hand cancel". mad.gif

As for 4H, excellent!!, the more the merrier. grin.gif

  8. I had a few minutes to browse in my town library's genealogy room this morning and I found a set of books titled,

"War of the Rebellion: Official Records of the Union & Confederate Armies"

Of course....DH wanted to leave before I found anything interesting rolleyes.gif BUT, I plugged that title into a google search and guess what????

    Yup! grin.gif It's online!

    http://cdl.library.cornell.edu/moa/browse....raphs/waro.html

I haven't had a chance to play around with this yet, but if it's the entire set of volumes it is a huge amount of information.

Just HAD to share it with you! smile.gif

  9. PS Some tips:

    1) If you take calcium, don't take it at the same time as you take your Synthroid.

    2) Avoid soy (you already know this). Your thyroid may improve greatly from just removing sthe soy from your diet.

    3) Get enough selenium every day. You can get enough from vitamins, or from eating 3 brazil nuts. You need enough selenium for your thyroid to function properly.

    4) Avoid fluoride wherever possible. Use fluoride free toothpaste (like Tom's of Maine), drink non-fluoridated water if you possibly can.

  10. Hey Snap!!! Holy Moly Lady!!!! With a TSH of 40 I would be laying on the floor twitching!!! shocked.gif

My TSH was almost 9 when I was diagnosed. My first doc got it down to 3.5 with Synthroid but I still felt crummy, so now I take Armour Thyroid (made from pig thyroid instead of chemicals)

I learned an awful lot about hypoT at:

    http://about.thyroid.com

Also from a book called "Living Well with Hypothyroidism" by Mary Shoman

Most docs (read that as *all*) believe that you must take thyroid medicine the rest of your life. My doc is a very rare exception that believes some of us can actually be cured by changes in diet. I'm going that route and I've reduced my meds twice......so far...... smile.gif

Wish me luck, I'm feeling better than I have in many, many years. Maybe I'll beat this thing!

  11. .......be sure and check with your local library. Ours had some genealogy software, but I didn't look at it too closely because I already have the stuff I downloaded for free.

I've also put new genealogy software on my Christmas list this year.....I think FamilyTree Maker costs about $30.

You might also try doing it on paper until you can get some software, then you'll have made quite a bit of progress by the time you have a program to add to. I think there's a thread here that Snow posted with printable charts.

To me, the thing that requires the most patience is following the "paper trail".....and learning all the different sources that you might have for tracking down ancestors.

It's a lot like being a detective and a historian all in one. I'm still working on getting birth, death, marriage & divorce records for my grandparents. I have some census information for older generations but that's about the extent of my "hard" data.
