I can't say.  I PC all tomato products.  Maybe @WE2's?  If you just did them yesterday, even if you decide they aren't safe, could you re-package and freeze?  I think we are supposed to let all jars set for 24 hours before moving them, so you would have time.

This gives me hope! Can I repackage them and pressure can them?

Oh my what lovely ladies! You are so fortunate to have such a willing helper. And the memories you are making. Some one is gonna be eating good this winter!

About the tomatoes. THIS IS MY OPINION ONLY

Did you pressure can them or water bath them? If you water bathed them then I'd say no! Especially with the added veggies. If you pressure canned them then they SHOULD be okay. I'd mark them and eat them first. You can can your spaghetti sauce with some added veggies but it must be canned in a pressure canner because of the onions.

I always pressure can my tomato products just to be on the safe side. Hope I read your questions correctly.

Thanks, Jeepers! That's my Mom and oldest daughter. Both wanting to help for what is to come. I'm very blessed and thankful!!

So....I water-bath canned them (followed a recipe). Are they safe to eat at all? That's a lot of work and effort to give to the pigs! They've sat on the counter overnight. I do have a pressure canner (double decker!), so next time I think I'll just do that. Normal time the recipe calls for? My husband suggested I did... I said no, this will be fine.....:groooansmileyf:

  3. Hello ladies!! I've been canning! 14 quarts of chicken stock, 28 quarts of black beans, pinto beans and red beans (28 quarts total) and 7 pints of spaghetti sauce. I'm tired!

The thing is....I completely forgot to add the lemon juice to the spaghetti sauce. Is it okay or will it kill us???

Also....I have a tomato sauce that I use for several of my meals. I have a bunch of it frozen right now, but would love to can it and free up the freezer space. I usually eyeball it: tomatoes (greater percentage), onion, garlic and salt. I blend it. Could I can this sauce like 8 would spaghetti sauce?

I appreciate your help, ladies! :bighug2:

Amazing what a resource of Early Warning Data we have here, ladies.

I have big stash of tin foil.  Heavy Duty [campfire cooking] and regular.  Even some very loooong rolls DH picked up free somewhere.  One of those things I know is so very handy for improvising and camping.  So....thru the years I kept buying it on sale.     It's everywhere!!!

If you try to grow plants .....garden seedlings.....it really helps them get enough light if you surround the area with tin foil....and the table they sit on.  Bounces the light all over for good plant growth.  :lois:

MtRider  ....no competition from me on the tin foil.  :)

Tin foil? For hats, or....😂 Just kidding. :hapydancsmil::bouquet:

  5. I find that I'm getting used to the emptiness of the shelves. Some things are getting better, others are still missing. Cold cuts seem to always be in short supply.

Also, other things missing, too. Like toys. We budget throughout the year, so we are starting to buy Christmas gifts now, just to be sure we have them available.

Hubby and I have heard a LOT of internet chatter that things are going to get way worse. We keep our eyes on Jesus and trust Him, no matter what. ❤️

  6. Hey ladies!

Wondering what your shelves look like now. Are you pretty well back to normal? I'll see if I can share some pics, Walmart and Sam's club, within Aug.

Be safe out there, especially those of you who live in the city! Crazy times we live in.

See? I knew y'all had great ideas! We have a room off our garage that I think could work well...but hubby is concerned it will get the rest of the garage steamy and hot. It would be a permanent four solid walls set up, and I think it would be helpful to have a place to store all my canning supplies "indoors" but not my kitchen. I'll talk to him again and see if he's willing....the garage is kinda his space, so I'd be taking over some of it... :whistling::canning:

So....I thought I'd share an update. Hubby said no to his space from the garage, but yes to building me something. Keep in mind he's an engineer, not a carpenter, so I am thrilled with what he's made for me so far!! We hope to finish it soon. We benefited from others misfortune (restaurants closing😕}, and got a huge SS sink (two sinks and a counter, really), and a big commercial 6 burner stove. Let me see if I can add a picture of what it looks like so far....

  8. I agree....maybe each able body (3 of us) can push a cart. The kids could carry a backpack. We would carry a backpack, too.

I hesitate to say this, but might as well. We left two perfectly well stocked BOB's at home to conserve space. So....lots of things in there that I know we will wish we had if it comes down to it. Ugh. Let's just hope it doesn't come down to it...but, Murphy's law, and all that....

Hubby just texted me and said that we will have to go shopping before this weekend. What would you get??

  9. Thanks, Mt Rider! The thing is....we are not home. We have bikes...at home. Our preps (funny...spell check changed preps to Oreos!! Lol!)....at home. We have some things here, but we have never planned to bug out, always to stay (why we live in the country). But now....we are only here for two more weeks, maybe 3. So hopefully, nothing will make us want to leave in that amount of time. Buying bikes or an emp proof vehicle would be cost prohibited, but borrowing a cart (or two) from Walmart would be doable.

Hubby won't take us to a shelter. He's read the stories....:/ So off to home we'd go, even if it too months. I'd lose weight....ha! Gotta see it on the bright side, right?

I was thinking that instead of heading straight home we would head south to CA then over. At least then the weather would be better. But CA is on fire....

You're right. This is a nightmare I hope we don't have to endure. Honestly, as you can imagine, our concern is for our littles. 6, 4 and 3 is very young for that many miles. And the 16 year old is a beauty....she would attract pervs. May God be with us if we ever do have to make such a trek.

  10. I'm thinking even about what shoes we have with us. Not sure the girls' tennis shoes would make it, or the boy's. I can't imagine having to walk home, ever, with the 3 young ones, but it could happen.... would rather be prepared.

Are you able to carry your tent, Annarchy, if need be? How many people does it hold? We're also heading into cold months....that wouldn't help!

  11. Thanks, Andrea! Honestly had not thought of the tent....we always stay in hotels (put it on the employer's bill!), so didn't cross my mind. Walking home with a 16, 6, 4 and 3 year olds is not ideal. Hope we never have to! I used to have a stroller in the van, not so much for the little ones (too big now), but to carry heavy supplies. Back saver at the zoo with all our water bottles!

Thanks for the ideas. Will read it to the hubby tonight and see what we can do. :)

  12. We live in KS, and feel like while not ?% prepped, we could make do for quite some time. The thing is, hubby travels for a living, and we are with him in OR at this time (heading home right before Thanksgiving). So we are here with very minimal preps....heading into Nov. 4th, a weekend that the government is planning an EMP drill and Antifa is planning the start of a 2nd civil war. I'd like to think that nothing is going to happen...but if it does, I'd rather be able to help hubby protect our family, feed them, keep them warm and get them home.

Any thoughts? Where would you start if you were away from home? We traveled in a big van so have some space. I know the basics....water, food, warmth, protection. How do we flesh that out? Looking forward to your replies, thank you! :)
