  1. Sorry I disappeared and got behind on the ornaments!!! I'm heading to the post office in a little bit. I had trouble with the first ornaments I was trying to make and had to regear and in the process hit a bit of a rough spot and couldn't get motivated to get anything done. Thank God for happy pills! Again sorry I disappeared for a little while!!!

BTW I did get everyone's ornaments and can't wait to get my homemade ornament tree up!

  2. I've always favored saccharin

While some think it has a bitter aftertaste, I only use it in iced tea, which already has a slight bitterness to it - which is what I like about tea.

And it has no demonstrated negative side effects.

Same here. I loved diet drinks with saccharin - Thanks Granny! I used to buy TAB when I could find it, but they caved and went to the dark side and now use saccharin and NutraSweet if I read the label right the last time I found some. :/ My sweetener of choice now is stevia.

I stay as far from NutraSweet as I can. DH's BIL died from brain cancer 16 yr ago. It was attributed to the 2 2L of Diet Mt Dew he was drinking everyday. I also learned when they sent out those bubble gum samples when they first came out with nutrasweet that it gave me headaches. Never have understood why that poison is still on the market. :/

  3. Just read this on Thriftyfun.com.....what do you think of this cold preventative?

I have not had a cold for 8 years, except for once when I neglected to do this preventive method. I take 1 Tbsp. of honey mixed with 1 Tbsp. of cider vinegar, each day. No, it doesn't taste good, but it is tolerable, and best of all, I don't get colds! Only once in 8 years have I had a cold. It was the two months I stayed with my daughter and neglected to continue with my home remedy.

I learned about this from a friend, who was a teacher of third grade children, and she never missed work from colds. As you know, teachers are targets for those pesky germs abundant in the classroom. Also years later, this teacher, who always had HER children take this home remedy, had a son that graduated from High School winning an award for never missing ONE day of school from Kindergarten to High School Graduation.

P.S. This teacher's father was a Pediatric Doctor!

Use warm/hot water and add some cinnamon and it'll taste almost like warm apple cider. Make sure you use a good apple cider vinegar with the mother still in it like Bragg's. I find the taste is much better than the filtered stuff. The cinnamon is also good for your blood sugar.

  4. My maternal Great Grandmother was said to be pure blooded Indian..depends on who you talk to whether she was Cherokee, Blackfoot(said that way, NOT like the tribe from the NW), or Chickasaw. Census records do not indicate she was other than white. But a cousin plans to do the DNA testing to see if we can get some answers. I think if she was of some Indian decent, it goes farther back. Matters not, but inquiring minds kinda want to know. We DID find out that on husband's mother's side, they have Nancy Ward as an ancestress. I always admired her..

I've got almost the same story in my family!!! My paternal grandmother said her great grandmother was Blackfoot. The cousin that did the family tree argues it was Cherokee because of location. I don't think he has taken in to account that many tribes traveled in Ken-tuck to hunt including the Blackfoot. I've thought about a DNA analysis, maybe one day.

My great grandmother on my mom's mom side always said Mark Twain was her cousin. I think it was her grandmother and his grandfather that were supposed to be cousins.

One that is true is that my great uncle designed the gas cap on tanks. Cousin that was a tanker in the Army confirmed his initials are on the caps.

  5. This is usually how I make french fries after watching a food network show several years ago telling the restaurant secrets of those french fry places. If I'm in a hurry, I "Bake" them in the microwave instead of boiling them. I didn't think about freezing them after the first frying. Thanks for the post!

  6. I've used this before to clean out the washer.

    1 cup bleach (liquid bleach)

1 cup dish detergent (Sunlight brand for dishwasher, granular form)

    Directions:

1 Place 1 cup of bleach in detergent dispenser.

2 Place 1 cup of Sunlight granular dishwasher detergent in washing machine tub.

3 Set wash cycle on HOT and start.

4 Run the washer again without any detergent, bleach or clothes to make sure it all gets rinsed out
