palestar
We just had a strong thunderstorm blow through and now I have a bunch of green pears that fell off the tree. Is there anything I can do with them? Will they still ripen? (This is the first year I've had fruit on this tree) Link to comment
Freetobeme
It depends on how mature they were when they fell off. If they were close to ripening, you can put them in a paper bag with a ripe apple. Ripe fruit gives off a gas that causes other fruit to ripen. Commercial growers pick fruit when it is not quite ripe so that it is firm enough to ship. If the pears don't ripen in a few days, they were probably too green. Link to comment
palestar
Thank you! Do you know what time of year they normally would be ripe? August? September? Link to comment
Freetobeme
That depends on the variety. Most get ripe around the end of August. Link to comment
