  1. We actually used our heater for the first time this year Thursday.  I did wake up smelling the first burn-off (I always think I should turn it on during the day first, but always forget) of the dust.

This morning I'm at home reading stuff for work.  One of the kids is working concessions (couldn't even tell us what sport it was for - he's doing it for theater).  Other kiddo is off with hubby to trade days in the next town over.  He's already sent me pictures of lovely wooden storage boxes that I think he's picking up for me.  He knows I like the pasteboard ones from the craft shops, so I think he's hoping I'll use sturdier ones a bit more.

IF it's related to MS, probably the same thing.  I tried to google it [or rather 'duckduckGo' it] and came up with 'Afternoon Slide' which I can certainly understand too.  Just gotta work around it....plowing thru it might work in a pinch, but not a good full time plan.

Ants...ugh!  Does Terro help with your type of ants?  Read that Maui now has a small version of Fire Ants.  Aaaaugh!

They were talking about it in relation to POTS and dysautonomia in general.  Not sure if that involves MS, but it seems to me like it should.

I mixed up peppermint oil and water and have been spraying like crazy around the kitchen and the rest of where we're seeing them.

:cheer:   Yay, MrsS is back on......and my computer is back to behaving.  My brain...not so much.  I definitely have MS Fall Fatigue Thing this year.  I just drop  :faint3:  all energy with no rhyme/reason.  Some days are completely awful....not-getting-out-of-bed-awful.  Then a day of respite.

I saw something calling it the "October Slide".

We have ants.  In half the house.  Both kids rooms, the kitchen, the game room.  Luckily not in our room or I'd never sleep.

Meatloaf & potatoes for dinner for everybody else, sweet potatoes for me.  I was planning on creamed spinach, but we might just be doing broccoli and cheese 'cause I'm tired.

  4. Y'know, I realize it's still 90F out, but it's going to get cold before too long.  Why the crap don't the stores have decent coats out yet?  The only place that had non-frufru coats was one of the western wear stores that had all the FR coats for men - nothing decent for women.

Found a coat online - here's hoping it fits when it gets here!

Standing freezer on the porch was working Monday.  This morning, it was making some awful noise, so I checked it.  Everything was room temperature.  No telling how long.  DS1 is busy, and DS2 is out of town.  I have been emptying it into bags, sealing the bags, and making lists (with prices where I can still read on the bloody, smelly paper) to see if it's enough to bother making a claim against the homeowner's insurance.  I am dead beat, and it's not eleven oc'ok in the morning.

    Ewwwwwwww.  No bueno.

Mom is actually getting used to using my tablet, with a stylus.  All month, every cute and interesting animal video I’ve found, I saved for her.  She spent a couple hours watching them. Then, asking questions to search the net for answers, lol.  Like, who makes the Genesis car?  What is tofu made from? What does butternut squash look like?  Etc. Makes her smile to find out.  But, she still insists she doesn’t want a smart phone or any type of computer.

    Maybe...she just needs an encyclopedia.

I told her I was d o an to 1400 calories and starving but the weight was not coming off. She said she didn't want to step on the dieticians toes, I said please do. That is when she told me to throw out everything concerning dieting that I knew. She told me to eat a lot of green vegetables. No more that 20 grams of carbs per meal and no more than 21 grams of fat a day. Lean meats no more than 4 grams of fat per serving. No starches. She said don't worry about calories or protein if you eat a large salad and 4 oz of lean protein you won't be hungry. Snacks should be raw veggies like cucumbers, tomatoes, cauliflower, broccoli etc.

I seriously detest the "calories in, calories out" model.  People spout off about the laws of thermodynamics, but they forget one key phrase: "In a closed system".  I don't know about you, but my system interacts with the environment and is not a closed system.  It sounds like she might have better ideas.

  8. Instant Pots go on pretty good sales for Black Friday and Christmas.

I went to a class on meal prep yesterday.  Pretty simple, but she was talking about how you can chop all your veg and stuff and use it in practically everything throughout the week.  I need to work on that so we actually eat veggies...

Come Monday, two friends and I are starting in on a new 30 days of the Whole 30.  One introduced me to it, and is an old hand.  One is going to be doing her first 30, and is most apprehensive.  We each have a good cookbook, Well Fed Week Nights, that shows how very do-able it all is.  WFWK is actually written for the Paleo diet, but the diets are so similar that the author just notes minor changes to make any given recipe suitable for Whole 30.

I have all of her books (the paper copies are at my mother's).  If you're an ebook person, put them on your list to watch.  Sometimes they'll be down to $1.99 or so.

Have you seen this remark???      :twister3: :0327: :shakinghead:

    *snip*

Yes, it was deleted rather quickly, but not fast enough. This is why you have to be very careful about what you post on social media. Somebody, somewhere is going to have done a screen capture of your post and it will live on forever!!!   :24: :24:  :24:

Especially if it's not particularly intelligent...

  11. I've been using flavored stevia drops in my coffee and have done a bit of low carb baking, but need to ramp it up with "fall" coming upon us (hey, it's only 92 for the high today!).

A local lady who does meal prep is doing a class on it in 2 weeks - I might spend the $$$ to go see if she has any brilliant ideas I should know about.

Ditto.  I'll hide over here in the corner with you.

    *cranks up the music*

However...I know I've got to make some changes.

Be thankful you didn't have to try and catch a Python - apparently they poop on you as part of their "defense" mechanism. :gdtmi:

(Found that out while watching a "Returning the Favor" episode on YouTube Watch. :grinning-smiley-044:

I love that show.  Need to catch up on the new season!

Forgot to add. If you take a Kindle with you be sure to download some books and movies if you are going to a place with no internet service. Thankfully I remembered to do that. I keep some books loaded just in case.

I picked up one with its own cell service at a pawn shop for $20.  I think it's going to live in the camper as my emergency backup.

Sorry about your ankles TheCG.  Drink plenty of liquids and elevate those puppies. If doctor allows, maybe an OTC water pill. Diru-Ex or something like that.\

They didn't swell (much) yesterday, and look practically normal again.  They're randomly itching like crazy, though.  Arrrrrrgh.

  14. Came home a day early.  Need to work on getting the camper drained, unhooked, and all that fun stuff.  Also emptied out & cleaned the bottom 2 drawers of the fridge since most of the stuff is in the camper, and started the self-clean cycle on the oven (the 12-year-old dropped au gratin potatoes in there).

Going to go slow, and keep my feet up when I can.
