  1. Protestors are supposed to be in our area this weekend.  The cops are down a whole dayshift because they're quarantined - someone has coronavirus, and I don't know how many or any other info.  They basically have everybody available on call for this weekend.

Y'know, I think after the farmer's market tomorrow morning, it might be a good time to kind of hunker down.

Last Thursday DS2 and his girlfriend went to stay at casino for her friend’s birthday. They got a text Friday telling them the “friend” and her boyfriend left the casino and went straight to be tested and was positive. Come to find out they had both been exposed and KNEW they had been exposed but she didn’t want to cancel her party and miss out on the fun.

This mama has been livid! So our kids tested negative Saturday. My son went and retested yesterday bc he didn’t feel right....still negative. This morning he called me to his room at 5. Said something was wrong...chest hurt....shoulder and arm hurt (the same one he banged up in a car accident a couple weeks ago)...felt like he was going to throw up and was CRYING. Y’all he’s 21 and I don’t remember the last time he cried. So I’m sitting in ER parking lot now. I’m a nervous wreck. My husband is offshore and I don’t want to call him and freak him out until I know Something.

Surely it’s not Corona if two rapid tests said negative right?

They won't test positive until it's had enough time to build up in their system to levels that the test can detect.  I'd be a nervous wreck as well, and pissed as hell at the selfishness of their "friend".

  3. Weeds are normally easier to pull when the ground is wet, right?

I was working most of today, but I got in a new type of tea.  I ordered the 100-pack on Amazon because it was only a bit more than twice as much as the 18-pack.  Can I just say, I *love* chocolate tea?  This one is called Christmas in Paris from Stash (the other reason I was ordering from Amazon - it's seasonal and out of stock everywhere!), and it's fabulous.

They ought to have an exception to the limits for elderly people who might only be able to get a ride to the store once a month or so.

Or people who can prove they have 7 kids, including a few teenagers, at home.  A friend of mine is in that category, and she was having tons of fun trying to keep everybody fed when a bag of flour really only covers baking for a day or 3.

Hmmm.....thanks for that data!   Any idea which part would greatly increase sinus congestion issue?  I'm still working with merely theory.  I have no dire consequences from it like stop breathing.   Obviously more to this than I realized.

MtRider  :scratchhead:   ....so far, I'm just eating butter but mostly nothing else with dairy.

Honestly, the best way to find out would be to cut out completely for a week or 2, then add ghee in and see if any symptoms come back.  I *think* it's the lactose in most people, but there are definitely people who react to casein (and other things in milk) as well.

So....if I really had to avoid ALL dairy, clarifying the butter and avoid the milk solids would be a good idea?  How do you strain it out?

At this point I'm not being that particular.  Just trying to reduce the congestion I get from dairy.  Bronchial, y'know.

    MtRider  :cook:

This would depend on whether it's the lactose, the casein, or something else in it that's causing the problems.

If it's the lactose, it would work.  I pour off as much as I can without disturbing the solids on the bottom, then pour through several layers of cheese cloth.

If it's the casein, that part is still in the ghee.

ETA:  They make butter-flavored coconut oil that works great for cooking.

TX & NM require masks into any business.

Very dependent in Texas on which part you're in.  In our part...maybe 5% wear masks when you're in stores and such.  The numbers are climbing out here.

  8. Cleaned out a kitchen cabinet.  Have a box of stuff to get rid of, and a bunch of cleaning supplies that need a new place to live in the house.

Bought leeks for the first time.  I have them simmering in a bit of bone broth and water.  Smells delicious, we'll see how that turns out.

Have to go into town for work this afternoon.  I'm working more and more AT work instead of home, and I'm not sure I like it....but I did at least get my standing desk set up at work yesterday.

We're in the next phase in CO as of Thurs.  Still watching for an increase.  Talking about bars, facials, etc coming open.    They also plan on the state fair......counties can decide their fairs.  They want to be sure the 4-H kids can do their shows.  Lot of them sell their livestock after they show at the fair.  Make a LOT of college money.  At least some of that would be outside....more air.....distance/masks?

    MtRider  :pc_coffee:

They had a fit when the Houston mayor canceled the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo.  Lots of people didn't get to sell their livestock then.  They are planning to hold the Texas State Fair, it seems.

Well darn, The CG.   I’m in TX and I won’t be home until Sunday afternoon.
I would have tried to meet up with you.  But it’s a dry heat!

That was years ago.  I'm home in Midland until the weekend of July 4, I believe.

Lol, Mt_Rider, 85°, I could get a lot more done outside.  It is terrible you are bothered by the heat, like you are.  We’ve been up to 116° so far this year.  :knary:  At that temp, my glasses are almost too hot to wear.  But, what do ya do?  (Stay inside in the AC).

At a cousin's wedding in Phoenix, I had to take my belt off because every time my arm touched it, I'd get another burn.

We're only up to 102F today!

Went to the grocery store to get my prescriptions filled. I didn't need any food but I did do a quick look through. Every thing was still well stocked except for those little bitty cans of baked beans. I would have bought some of those. I still have plenty but sometimes I like to eat a can of them for a snack. They are small. Maybe a larger store has them.

No small cans here either, at least not of the Bush beans.

As for making ground turkey taste like hamburger...I use Montreal Steak Seasoning, a couple of drops of liquid smoke, a pinch of Cumin, a pinch of Smoked Paprika and let it "rest" for about an hour in the frig.  Then mix up really good, and pull out what I need for the meal and freeze the rest.

I might have to see how well that works (and not tell hubby that there's cumin in it).

Then again, I've only lost my Kindle ONCE.....and I'm considering that a miracle!  :grinning-smiley-044:

MtRider  ....he did find the keys....on his desk; not hidden.

There's one on Dad's keys.  It said they were at the house, so they were going nuts trying to find them.  They finally did...on TOP of something tall enough they couldn't see them, out in the garage.  Why he put them there in the first place, we'll never know.

I’ve been spending a lot of time on the computer, researching the steps, forms, & reports necessary to start a non-profit business for DH’s friend. Yikes!!!  I never would have even imagined how labor intensive it is.  Good grief, the annual tax form is 14 pages long!  Nope!  I wouldn’t do it without a lawyer and a CPA.  :gaah:

Even then, we have friends going 'round and 'round WITH a lawyer and a CPA for the last few months.  I think they're finally getting it set up.

  15. Might I also recommend asking the counselor/therapist for recommendations on an organization for the PARENTS of LGBTQ+ persons?

They'll have ideas and experience regarding how you can best support her.

  16. This ticks me off and makes me doubt numbers in general.

    From our city's Facebook page:

"The 123rd confirmed case is a male in his 50s who was tested by a private provider. The male is currently self-isolating at home. The male is currently in California and has not been in Midland since January. The male will not return to Midland until he has recovered. The source of exposure is contact to known case."

WHY is he counted as a case here in Midland?  Is he ALSO counted as a case in California?

ETA: One of the comments says that they count people in their place of residence.  That just made me doubt ALL the numbers because we have a HUGE transient population here due to the oilfield.

If I remember correctly, the problem with putting people on ventilators has to do with maintaining the correct pressure of the air flow so that you don't "blow out" the capillaries causing irreparable damage to the patient.

The other problem is that people on ventilators are highly susceptible to secondary infections.

The fruit of the fig tree has large quantities of dietary fiber and a low amount of essential vitamins and minerals. This makes them a good addition to any diabetic patient’s diet, as they have little sugar in them. Fresh figs easily spoil and cannot be transported over long distances. This issue is resolved by drying the fruit, which allows the figs to be stored and transported easily. The fruit is a healthy tibenabvi addition to the diet for combating respiratory disorders, increasing bone density and increasing insulin sensitivity.

  20. They're yellow onions.

I put 7 pieces of potato in each pot, but need to add more soil (this evening, when the wind isn't blowing 30mph and it's not 100F outside).

Honestly, we're both highly impressed that everything has survived so far.
