After reading about some of your families I have come
to the conculsion that...my family doesn't suck so
bad after all. Now I am very thankful for the one
I have. I think it takes seeing how others live to
see what you actually have, you know seeing if the
grass is really greener on the other side type thing.
Thank you everyone for helping me to let go of some
of my anger to my family, well my not so horrible
in-laws.

Before I started doing the Thanksgiving meal it was
"who's family to spend it with" then when that didn't
work it was spending it with both families and wanting
to throw up afterwards. Lunch with mine and dinner with
his. Two huge dinners in one day became too much. That's
when I decided to have the dinner at my house and have
both families over. That's 15 people to cook and clean
up after. I did this for several years until this year.
This year I am angry at my inlaws and will not go any
where near them. I will have my parents over and that
is all. Still won't be perfect.
My husband and I are taking turns putting up with
each others family. This year we are have a family
picture with my parents. For that I will go and
have Christmas Eve with his parents. Thanksgiving
and pictures for Christmas Eve night. I think we got
an even trade.
I could do without holidays.

I call it taco rice, but call it what you like.
1 lb. hamburger (cooked or not)
1 cup instant rice
1 cup water
1 envelope taco seaoning mix
If your meat is already cooked just add water
and taco mix, boil, then add rice, cover, remove
from heat and let sit until rice is tender.
Use this in tacos, burritos, or anything mexican.

My favorite is Jude Deveraux. Right now I'm reading
Always and I have The Mulberry Tree after that.
I also like Beverly Lewis and Janette Oakey. The
only problem with the Janette Oakey books are that
they are talking very country and I have to reread
sentences over and over. It's not a fast read. I
perfer the movie Love Comes Softly by Micheal Landen Jr.
I have watched it 20 times or more. The next book of
hers Love's Endearing Promise comes on Hallmark
on the 20th of this month.
I like to read any christian romance. They are such
wonderful love stories.
I just got finished reading John Grisham's Skipping
Christmas. It was very good. I can't get to the
movies very often so I figured reading the book is
just as good.

Joan, I would like the one with the green letters.
The first one.

I started buying cheap disposable diapers for
my newborn, I thought diapers are diapers, right?
When I started using them I noticed that his
sleeper was totally soaked and I figured that
he just peed alot, but when I changed his diaper
it was barely wet. We went through all of his
outfits in one day. This is crazy! So I went and
bought the most expensive diapers at the store to
see if this made a difference. It did!
The cheap diapers seemed big for newborn so I let
him get a little bigger, so today I put the cheap
diapers back on him. Same thing happened. Now I
have four packages of the cheap diapers and don't
know how to fix this problem.
Any suggestions?

Can I freeze milk? Do I freeze it in the original
container? What about headspace?

Is your stove in your kitchen? If so,does your
kitchen get hot when you use your stove?
If it is in the kitchen, where did you put it?
I don't have anywhere in my kitchen for one.
Lucky you, I would love to have one. My dad
has one but like I said, I have no room for one.
More questions about your stove.
How long after you start the fire before
you can cook on it? Are you only using cast iron
or regular pots and pans too.
-
Could it be something else? Colic or gas due to the
formula you might want to switch to soy and see if
that makes a difference. Heck, if you are that
desperate, try anything, right?
-
How many ounces of formula or breastmilk is she taking?
I have a one month old son and he wants to eat every
two hours on 2oz and with 3oz. bottles. If I try to
get 3 hours in between each feeding with a 4oz. bottle
he just spits most of it up and we end up feeding again
in two hours. So I just feed him more often.
What about her weight? Is she in the "normal" range?
Are you using a pasifier? Finger? Babies like to suck
even if they are full.
If you are nursing do you let her eat until
she falls asleep or just doesn't want anymore?
I'm sorry to ask so many questions but I'm just
trying to help.

Those are cute but do you have anything else? I like the
bathtub one but they are all boys. I have two girls and
two boys. Sorry to be so picky.
I have a picture on my wall that I really like, how do
I know if I can use it or not? You know copyrights and
all. There is a name on the picture all I can make out
is Lavin something. This picture goes along with a poem
called Mother's Prayer. Any suggestions?
Thank you

Just a note to remember: Solid foods should not be
given until at least 4 months old. Then you should
start with rice cereal. At 6 months you
can give fruits and vegetables. Until then bottle
or breast milk is best.
Here are some links to look at when you are ready
to start feeding solids foods.

I would like something different for my siggy name.
I'm looking for something motherly. I have a newborn
so I'm feeling very motherly. This is my 4th child, so
I could have something with 4 children in it.
I hope this helps.

I need help seasoning a cast iron skillet.
I read the direction on that came with the pan but
after I put it in the oven it started to smoke
not alot but enough to make the whole house smell
like smoke. I lightly coated the pan with melted
shortening and I put a cookie sheet under the pan
in case the oil dripped.
What did I do wrong?

My family got the flu shot because of Luke, we didn't want
to bring it home to him. We are going to be extra careful
this year.
We are going to stock up on things now so that we don't have to go out very much during this time. I am making out a list of things that I'm short on. I'm always short on
things that we go through really fast.
-
Is anyone worried about this years flu season?

With my first two kids I used Pitocin waited 12 hours and
used Demerol for pain. Took about and hour of pushing to
deliver.
With my third child one of my friends talked me into
getting an epidural. So it was Pitocin, waited 12 hours
and got an epidural, which I will NEVER use again!! Still
took an hour to push out.
With Luke I used Pitocin, started the night before in
a small amount, then the next morning they turned it
up and I used something like Demerol but it was called
something else. After two hours the Demerol stuff
wasn't working anymore and I was begging for an epidural.
The nurse told me I would have to wait 20 minutes for it.
20 minutes!!! That's like forever when your in labor!!
I'm in really bad pain and about 15 minutes the nurse wanted
to check to see how far along I was and she said "No time
for an epidural it's time to deliver." I was only in
labor for two hours and pushed Luke out in about 5 minutes.
Let me say this was the best labor and delivery I ever had.

Sure you can. How can I get to Cat's site?

Hi everyone!!!!
For a week or two I had computer burn out. I could not
stand to even look at. Then I went to the ob/gyn and
she thought it was ok to go ahead and have the baby.
Now, here we are. I'm back but only for now. I came
here to just let you know everything is ok.
Buttercup, I sent you an email with a picture. I hope
it comes to you ok.
His name is Luke and he was born on the 23 and his
weight is 6 lb and 14 oz and he is 18.5".
His birth was very different from my other 3 kids and
when I return, maybe in a week or so, I will go into
detail, if you want.
I have to go. I'll be back later.

My parents have a wood cookstove that they are not
using and I wanted to make an outside kitchen.
Canning really heats up the house. Does this
sound like a good idea? I too would also like
to know how to cook on one. How do you lower the
heat once you get it hot?
-
That's what I do also. It's also to find those bloody
eggs, gross!!! I know it's fresh and still good to eat
but I can't do it. No since in having to throw out good
food because of a bad or not so bad egg.

I know, me too!
We need to chat and see what else we have in common.
Bread Dressing

Here is how I do mine. I don't use a recipe.
Save up on cornbread and biscuits during the
week or make some the morning of Thanksgiving.
If making that morning, I use a box of Jiffy
cornbread, follow directions on box, and a
tube of refridgerator biscuits. Bake. Cool.
Crumble. Saute' celery and onions in butter or
oil. I like more onions than celery. Use one
onion and two stalks celery.
Add them to the breads. I use sage. Add
a teaspoon or two. I use two. Add salt and pepper.
A teaspoon of salt and a dash of pepper. Then
add chicken broth. I add a can, usually works out.
Just don't make it too moist. Put this in a 9 x 13
pan at 350 and bake until firm and browned on top.
Usually 30 minutes give or take a few.
I do not add eggs. I watched my grandma make
this and this is how she taught me. That's the
thing about grandmothers, ask them for a recipe
and they tell you add some of this and some of
that until it taste good. My grandma doesn't
own any cookbooks.
This is how I learned to cook. When I make something
new I like to use a recipe because I afraid it will
turn out bad, but the next time I make that
same thing I don't use the recipe I'll cook like
grandma. Usually taste better.
