  1. The only problem I have with that is they're not taking stock into consideration. Bone broth is such an amazing boone to one's health, that all bones from a whole chicken or from bone-in cuts are used. So then, we have servings of broth eggs, soups, meatless meals by cooking rice in broth, etc.

  2. Right now, I'm about ready to sock him. The only solution he's come up with is that we should spend less on food...to the point of having hardly anything in the pantry and buy groceries on the day we want to use them to eliminate waste. Apparently food storage is wasted money and room. He says we need to go to doing a zero-based monthly budget instead of the running total I use (I've never been able to make a zero-based budget work), but hasn't done anything towards it.

  3. Always found in the same spot  Rare, but I've read about this, too. I'm also the same person that had a broody chicken hatch LIVE twins once!! 2 of my chicken layers from this batch started laying at 16 weeks to.the.day. My ducks laid a few weeks earlier than anticipated. Apparently, I raise happy hens & they tend to go above & beyond expectations.

  4. As long as you raise meat ducks for meat and egg layers for eggs. Same for chicken breeds. Our Khaki Campbells consist of feather, ribs, and the egg-laying innards. No meat on those bones but they can lay up to 300+ eggs a year.

Good price on duck .....especially if you didn't have to pluck it yourself.

We have a trio, & they are definitely little birds. But we get 1-4 eggs PER DAY out of TWO hens!!! Usually 2, but yeah, we've gotten 3-4 a FEW times. I didn't think that was possible!!!

  5. OK, so I got a 1/2 bushel Granny Smith, 1/2 bushel of Mutsu & a 1/2 peck Of September Wonder (I think) yielded the following:

    Apple butter:

    6- 12oz

    3- 4oz

    8 half pints

    Cinnamon Apple pancake sauce:

    6 half pints

    Fried apples-

    8 pints

    Caramel Apple Jam:

    6.5 half pints

    Applesauce:

    10 pints

    1 12oz jar

We also ate quite a few- YUM!!! I think that's everything!

Sunday we visit another orchard to get more apples :D
