I'm a spreadsheet nut. I am constantly going over them everytime we buy something. I go thru the BOB'S checking dates and the list for them. Organizing the area'a where things are stored (I'm running out of room). Researching info on just about everything. I downloaded 14 gigabytes from a site that has info for 3rd world countries to help them survive. Praying.

Not to worry Dave....You're in good company. My Dad had grown up during the depression in an already poor family and perhaps it was nostalgia, but my childhood was filled with weird meats that he had eaten then because they were virtually free. Some of those I still like myself and one of the things known as "Scrapple" by the Pennsylvania Dutch still tops my list of favorite breakfast meats(?). Basically, it's the all the meat boiled off the head of a hog and ground then mixed with cornmeal and put in a loaf. You then slice it and fry it. Here in east Ohio, we call it "Krepples" but it's also affectionately called "Pig Lips."
This one is a bread.

Kaki, you can put up everything you mentioned. I would suggest that you purchase the "Ball Blue Book", it is the Bible of canning. Also look in Preserving The Harvest forum or do some search's for canning certain items. Hope this helps.

Brewguy, you might be able to use a heating pad. I know this sonds nuts but...I cover mine and put it under the bed covers. I have a water bed. It rises in about half the normal time.

I cover mine with a towel and make sure it is on the back of the counter so the heat/AC vents can't blow on it. It will stay soft for five days this way for me. But....it could be that I eat it in that amount of time also.. I also freeze the other loaf.
