  1. Received a FREE Vitramix (old one) from a good friend. I was thinking it was more like a juicer. The thing was huge and would take up too much counter space for being a blender on steroids. Some of the parts were missing but worked well after DH fixed the switch. Friend got a new one for Christmas (almost $500 mfg.).  :0327:  I cleaned up the blender and sent it back to the former owner so that she could give it to someone else. My old blender still works and takes up about half the space on the shelf.

I did send DH over there with the blender and a big bag of Meyer lemons. She was thrilled for the gesture. It's hard out-giving her.   :24:

Had something similar happen. It was a red light violation. Received a ticket and a picture in the mail. Only problem was, I wasn't the one driving the car. (I think it was my DD) I notified them that what they sent wasn't a picture of me, and they dropped the charge.

In the UK, the ticket goes with the car. All moving violations are photographed by cameras. All roads cities are monitored by cameras. If you borrow your friend's car and get a ticket, you had better be a GOOD friend because your friend gets the ticket, points against his driving record, and has to apprear in court.  :0327:

So if a senior dies of natural causes but happens to test positive for Covid, they are labeled 'died from/with covid'? However, if they receive the gene therapy and die, it's generally attributed to 'natural causes'?

Yesterday, we talked to one of my mom's friends who stayed at the retirement center. They are locked down again as someone brought in covid. The cafeteria is closed down and all meals are delivered to each apartment. My mom's apartment hasn't been rented since I moved her out. That's 9 months times $3000 month. Rack up $27,000 for many empty apartments and I can see why the Center is in deep financial trouble. No one seems to be moving into these places if they can stay at home and bring in services.  The writing on the wall is that the residents will eventually be required to take the gene therapy if they want to stay there. I didn't want my mom to have to make that decision. It's hard, but we make life simple and easier for her as she finishes her race with us.   :hug3:

  4. We have a big snow storm coming tomorrow so will can burger and chicken. I like to dump them into veggie soups for added protein. I need to see the back of my freezer some day.  😂  I did make 3 to 4 different kinds of jams from the fruit freezer but filled up the space with veggies and baked breads. Our honeybees REALLY pollinate our gardens. I need to get mama to eat more.  😂. Now I am on the sourdough kick. It's fun but the pounds can creep up and the flour bin can look underweight.  😛

  5. Good old Dr. Fauci, the highest paid federal employee that we have.

I don't wear one mask. Why would I even consider wearing two masks?   :grinning-smiley-044:  It keeps getting more ridiculous by the month, and they're testing to see how high you will jump.  :gaah:

Well....today wasn't too good.  I woke up early but had fairly good sleep.  DH had ZERO sleep......his heart was doing what is does sometimes.  He was pretty miserable for the first 3/4ths of the day.  Late afternoon, he finally got some sleep when the heart was about back to normal.

Afib? We're starting to learn more about my mom's 'stress' triggers. The doc calls it anxiety episodes. She goes into afib and gets short of breath. When I see her on O2 I know she's bothered about something. She has been afib-free since the holidays and not so much Nitro for chest pains. Doc said that if it's only one Nitro needed to settle her down, it's probably not her heart. Nitro opens the circulatory system and helps with many problems. So many things I never knew.  :0327:

  7. Your bath

10 hours ago, The WE2's said:

Spent most of the day at the homestead.  Hubby's trying to get the shower door in.  We bought a display model from a lumber place and it was a discontinued model (we didn't know that) so a lot of the parts were either missing or not the right lengths etc.  BUT...he's just about got it!  While he was working I did some major cleaning.  I took some pics yesterday...before I cleaned...so have some mercy!  He still needs to do some caulking and trim, but we can live with that

Pics #6 and #7 (?) is the new cabinet with shelves underneath...it used to be the door to the 2nd bedroom.

Your bathroom looks so much like ours!! Even the vanity.    :hug3: We had thought about changing out the bathtub for a large shower to help mama, but the CNA's are really good about getting her old legs up over the tub rim. We do have handicap railings throughout the bathroom to help with her mobility. DH said they'll still look like new by the time WE need them.    :24:

We've been using a hoophouse similar to this one for about four years, only we decided on PVC framework for the roof structure. He will find that the cattle panels will rip the plastic within one season from the wind rubbing the plastic on it. Also the black pipe insulation tubes (pool noodles) will also breakdown within one season from the sun's UV rays. If plastic wasn't so darn expensive, we would have considered this style.   ;)

  9. Some snippets from LC.org today:

California paused the Moderna COVID vaccine and issued a warning to all vaccine facilities after people had serious reactions less than 24 hours after receiving the injection.

In the United States alone, at least 55 people have died after taking a COVID vaccine — and some were perfectly healthy before this injection.

The small country of Norway already has had 29 deaths following the Pfizer vaccine. That nation has now completely reversed its recommendations. Now people older than 75 years are instructed to NOT receive this vaccine.

In Israel, four people have died and 13 developed Bell's Palsy.

  10. I had so many of the same books/magazines you have. When we sold everything and headed to the mission field, I sold most of them. They went for high prices and we used the money to travel from project to project. Great memories. So were all the animals we raised.

We've eaten just about every kind of animal species that crawls, walks, or runs. Some of them would be considered pets around here.  We beefed up our immune systems to handle just about every attack. We lived through SARS in SE Asia and Ebola in Africa. My biggest concern since retiring is letting down our guard and allowing our immune systems to weaken. We're killing ourselves by staying away from germs and viruses, not to mention so little sunshine in the wintertime up north. I won't even talk about our diets and rampant obesity in America. It is always such a stark reality when we've been gone for months and then land at our first US international airport. It takes our breath away. :0327:

All of my kitchen equipment went in the auction, but family has been buying us replacements at holidays and birthdays. Not everyone is thrilled and jumps up and down when they receive a bread machine or canner.   :hapydancsmil: Does anyone else get excited when they receive a homemade food gift in a Ball canning jar at Christmas and say, "OH BOY, ANOTHER CANNING JAR FOR THIS YEAR?"   :24:

Went to store today and it was crowded. People are buying like crazy around here. I wasn't going to go but I was right there at Lidl's, so I stopped in as DH wanted some grapes and they were on sale. I have never been in a Lidl's when it was that crowed.

I've been wondering of Lidl's ever made it across the salty pond from Europe. They were Aldi's biggest competitor over there. I think they're both German-owned companies.

I've also heard that stores are extra busy right now. Lots of rumblings out there.

Jeepers, I am staying but going to limit where I post from now on. I don't mean upset anyone on here. I was leaving because I didn't want Mother or Dee or anyone else to leave.  I will only stay if no one leaves because of my post. I won't be stating anything going on though there are some things happening that I got on USA alerts today. But I am not going to post any of it. Just beware and watch the news. I am sure it will be on there tonight.

Again, Mother and Dee I am sorry for upsetting the two of you with that post.  And I hope you don't leave because if you do, then I am out of here as well.

I used to be a moderator and go back to 1999 when Dar bought the site. All of you are staying!!  😂. 🤪

The next few days leading up to the inauguration may be dark and chaotic. Each of you bring a specialized skill/gift to the table that the rest of us may need/want. We're family and need to have one another's back. I have read great compassion/caring in each of your posts especially when you apologize or refraise what you said. It's a joy being a part of this group. We learn and move on. No feelings hurt on the part of anyone.  😉

Geeez, I'm starting to sound like Dar and said I would never do that.  🤪

  13. Jeepers - I almost lost my mouthful of coffee onto the face of my computer monitor.   MOVE  :cele:  You sure have bitten off a BIG word for 2021. If anyone can do it, it's you. You have the personality and temperament to do it..  :hug3:  Go for it!!

The word that keeps coming to me (whilst walking past piles of paperwork on my desk) is being INTENTIONAL (done on purpose; deliberate) . A simple definition is:  having the ability to see specific results in the future that, if you achieve them, will make things bigger and better for yourself, your business and your life. Being intentional means getting clear up front about what you want to achieve. Your vision, your purpose and your goals.

I found this on a women’s website that puts flesh around the word INTENTIONAL:

    - Be mindful of the media you consume   -   Election results, court battles, covid 19, 20, 21, 22  :0327:

    - Choose to be kind - Do things for people not because of who they are or what they do in return, but because of who you are.” ― Harold S. Kushner

    - Do something that brings you joy  - Time to dust off those C.C. skiis and get out before the snow melts  :hapydancsmil:

    - Ask “why” before you buy

    - Practice active listening

    - Make time for self-reflection

    - Do something you can be proud of

    - Question your “have to’s”

    - Prioritize rest and self-care - This is difficult as I have 24/7 care of my mom on hospice.

Westie was indeed a treasure trove. And what a sense of humor! I remember sending a signed fabric block for a quilt. Sigh.

What urged me to become a member was Nana. Her lists on how to prepare, especially food, are pinned and worth another look. She gave many ideas on how to build up your pantry on a budget over a year. Week by week or month by month. I spent hours copying her lists onto a Word document so I could print it and mark off items I bought. Since this is the beginning of a new year, it would be a good time to start. Especially a newbie on a budget.

I'm not sure I know how to access those old files. I remember Nana's weeks/months of carefully typing out instructions on what/when to buy supplies. How do we access this history?  :0327:

  15. I was challenged yesterday by a half-hour program on our local radio station, the Christian working Woman. The founder of the program is a life-time executive from Wheaton, IL. She probably worked in Chicago. There is so much depth to her writings. I seldom catch her short broadcasts, but always find a gem in them when I stop to listen.

Mary gave examples of how other women have searched and found 'one word' to cling to during the New Year, rather than a 'new year's resolution', which generally disappears over a few weeks into the year. Her concept, through a book she recently called My One Word, By Mike Ashcraft and Rachel Olsen.  Her broadcast on the subject can be found at:  https://christianworkingwoman.org/broadcast/a-new-word-for-a-new-year/

How do you choose your one word for 2021? Well, first think about some things you would like to change about yourself. For example, patience might be an area where you know you need improvement, she said.

Or you might choose a word that exemplifies areas where you want to grow, such as wisdom or thankfulness. As you think and pray about what your one word will be for 2021, you will be amazed at how that process will lead you to the right word for you.

I haven't found mine yet. It will probably hit me between my eyes in an upcoming morning devotional.   Our thought process is so powerful. Our minds are so powerful. Hopefully, my 'one word' will be just what I need for 2021. It certainly should be better than the one the world chose for me in 2020 .... CHAOS.   :hapydancsmil:
