  1. MtRider I sympathize with your health issues.  I wish there was something I could do to help. I am falling apart too.

Finally got measurable rain this morning!  I am thrilled  It's the first real rain in over a month.  Of course it will make my grass grow and so far my mower isn't fixed .  I will have a jungle soon.

I made my monthly trip to the grocery store yesterday  They have 3 scooters which I need to shop. I cannot walk at all.  Anyway all 3 of them are broken.  I talked to the manager about it and he said they cannot get anyone to fix them.  Even with a scooter company contract no one will pick them up to work on them. I wasted an hour of my time and precious gas for nothing.

My robocalls for the Amazon 999$ Apple phone have resumed.  They quit for about a week but are back with a vengeance.  They called over 10 times yesterday and clog up my answer machine with their fake spiel.

I think this will be a good time to take a nap.  I can get unfrustrated and enjoy the raindrops!

  2. I am so glad to see the corn pictures.  This country really needs a bumper crop this year.

I was hoping the mower was a minor fix but I wasn't lucky. Dog gone it!

I feel for you Littlesister.  There are constant bittersweet reminders of my baby.

  3. Another frustrating day ahead.  Am I the only one who spends a ton of time trying to get things fixed?  It seems like everything is broken or jimmy rigged. When you try to get parts that's a problem too.  I am so tired of everything being "marginal".  My mower started hacking the grass on one side only yesterday. Hopefully it is a minor fix. I am also waiting on a part for the sprayer , and another for the gator for over a month now.  Can't get new front wheels for my mobility chair either.  They are completely bald now. My a/c window unit (using because my central unit went down) is changing where it is draining. I have to check it several times a day to make sure it isn't damaging siding when it drips. I have several more irritating things like this going on but you get the picture.  GRRR.

Today is also a sad day.  The 40th anniversary of the day I met DH.  I still have a perfect mental picture of my first glimpse of him. I guess I must have known to remember that moment. I miss him terribly.

Still very hot and humid but not nearly as bad as many other places.  I feel so sorry for those out west.  We at least get breaks.  Most evenings are quite pleasant.  My sorry tomato plant has only put out 6 tomatoes.  I am so glad I didn't attempt to grow more.  Very disapppointing. My lettuce even did bad.

  4. I hope your 4th was great.

We finally got some rain yesterday. It wasn't alot but it had been about 2 weeks without any. Way too dry for this part of the country. Only had one neighbor about half a mile away do firecrackers this year.  He always has a big one. I am glad that my pony is gone.  It really bothered him and I was  always scared he would run thru the fence.

I only have one tomato plant this year and it looks pathetic.  Six big half red tomatoes on  a few skinny, bare branches. I did pick one yesterday (my first of the season) and it tasted great.  Since DH died and I am handicapped I really cut back on the veggies this year.  It's good that I did because it has been so dry and hot.

I will be glad when the weather breaks. It has been very hot but at least the humidity hasn't been as bad as usual.  My a/c in the car went out but at least my home is cool! I dread getting the electric bill.

I hope those of you travelling have safe travels!

  5. Everyone needs to talk to the older folk in their families.  I know my Mom wouldn't say much but after she died my aunt (her baby sister) told me alot of things. I am so glad I talked to her a few times about the family because she died unexpectedly.  I am now the oldest one left in my family and I'm not that old yet!  We tend to die young on my Mom's side.

My dad's mom was kind of crazy but surprisingly everything she told me has checked out. I wish I had asked her more things but I was bashful back then.

  6. I woke up this morning to see a wolf napping by my back door.  I almost yelled at it to go home since  I thought it was my neighbors dog.  Then I looked closer and decided to not say anything.  He walked off calmly so I guess I didn't disturb him.lol

I finally got a neighbor to take out my old fridge for pickup.  It felt good to get it out of the garage.

It is still nice outdoors.  They predicted it would be 90 today but they were wrong.  Every day without ac sure helps with the bills.

I got 2 invitations in the mail today.  Grand daughter is getting married and my high school reunion. Both of them are in September. I haven't been to any reunions yet except for DH's.  I don't know if it would be fun or not.  It is a long trip for me and would be pretty expensive.  I got plenty of time to think about it.  DH's was pretty lame but he went to a country school with a class of 23 kids.

Tomorrow would have been my sisters bday.  I can't stop thinking about her.

  7. Ancestry has been releasing the 1950 census the past month.  If you can't afford membership at Ancestry, I heard that Family Search will be providing data for free soon. I haven't found too much new yet  but I did see that my grandparents had separated at this point.

  8. I know that gabapentin can cause troubles but when you get older you have to weigh the risk/reward differently.  I know I have some of them leftover around here.  A friend of mine gave me a sample of Voltare when it first came out.  He swore by it but it didn't do a thing for me. I am in a wheelchair too and I try to keep everything handy but my countertops look awful.  They are just covered with canned goods etc.  I have those grabbers all over but I don't like to put things where I have to reach up.

  9. Annarchy I lived this with DH for years.  It is amazing how well he did with an unfixable damaged heart. I pray that you and your DH can manage and have a decent life. They attempted bypasses on DH a few times but he had so much scar tissue on his arteries etc. that they gave up on doing them. Somehow his body made adjustments and created new pathways for circulation.  It wasn't ideal but it was enough to keep him alive for way longer than we expected. He would not eat the heart healthy diet so he never did.  He said he wanted to eat what he wanted to and that was that. Upsetting to me but he was an adult so it was his choice. I hope you both find your best way to deal with this!  I am praying for you both.

  10. I have been forced to cut down on my showers.  I am  in a wheelchair and now I can't count on hand strength either.  I can't walk but I can still change from chair to chair by hanging on and sliding my feet.  I am careful because I am alone.  It is so frustrating but it is part of aging/health. Now that I finally have some spare time to do my crafts I can't. The pain in my wrists and needles/numbness  in my fingers are awful.  I have tried every type of NSAID for pain relief but nothing seems to work.  I am scared to try the Neurontins.  I understand they are kind of dangerous. Has anyone here tried them?

I have a cheap small cell phone that I wear on a chain around my neck.  That way if I do fall I can hopefully reach it to call for help.

MY world is getting smaller and smaller.

  11. Even though I knew all 4 of my grandparents  names, my parents led us to believe that my grandfathers were both dead.  It wasn't until years later that i found out that I could have actually met them both if only I had known in time. I still don't know why they did this.  I do know my Mom was embarassed about her poor family background. I actually didn't find out much  at all from my parents.

  12. It's great when you get a breakthrough. I'm stuck on both of my great grandparents right now. They were the last immigrants in my family but I cannot get exact years anywhere.  They themselves both give conflicting years of immigrations.  You would think they would know the year they came. They both came somewhere between 1898 and 1906.  Of course they have a common last name so that doesn't help either.  I don't think they became citizens either.  I can't find a thing.

  13. I hop in and out at Ancestry depending on specials and my financial situation.  This time back they have added photos from school yearbooks.  I found the only photo I have ever seen of my former MIL as a girl of 16 in high school.  I loved her dearly and my son was glad to see Grandma when she was young.I forwarded it to my exes family and they were all thrilled. Since they are always fighting each other it was nice to do something that kind of brought them together at least for a bit.
