  1. Mother you are lucky to have a truly considerate daughter.  I just love it when someone hugs me and then I find out later they were sick.  For some reason folks with strep throats seem to love to share the most. When DH was in and out of hospitals alot I could not believe the sick families clogging up the waiting rooms and even going into the ICU unit.

I pray all of you here have a blessed Christmas and a wonderful New Year

  2. Merry Christmas to ya'll!   I made myself some crab legs to celebrate tonight.  I haven't had any in years so it was a nice treat.

I will be alone again but I still have memories of my sweet hubby.

Hoping 2024 is better than 2023 was!

  3. I don't know how I missed this post.

It sounds like you have just gone from one health problem to another.  Hopefully, this will be it for awhile.  My FIL had lung problems and they think it was from him being a paper hanger for years.  Back in the 40's and 50's he did alot of flocked paper. He could actually see little particles in the air when he was working.

    Welcome back!

  4. Euphrasyne, how do you like BJ's?  They just built one in the big town 30 minutes away and I was wondering if they are better than Costco or Sam's. I have been a member of both of them in the past but I just didn't save enough to keep a membership.

We had a cold front come through last night.  The same one that caused tornadoes in Tennessee. I am thankful we had no serious problems from it. It stayed chilly today though and it was pretty breezy.

A friend of mine lost her Mom yesterday.  Her Mom is about 4 years older than me.  I feel so bad since they were very close.  I don't know what I can do to help her.  She works at hospice so she is used to death but your own Mom is a different story.  I hate when folks die around the holidays.

Just think..soon it will be a new year.  I still don't know where 2023 went!

  5. Thanksgiving was always my favorite holiday.  Not so much anymore. I have spent the last 3 or 4 alone.  No one has even invited me after DH died.  Folks just aren't as considerate as they used to be. I still made a turkey today since I found a 7 pound one for 69 cents a pound, I will enjoy having breast and mayo sandwiches. I bought 3 of them and put the other 2 in the freezer.  It is so easy to make that size turkey in my counter top convection oven.

  6. I was just sitting here thinking about all the Christmas advertising I saw on tv.  I watched a college football game all the way through  today which is a long time for me anymore.  So many Christmas ads before we even get to Thanksgiving.  Almost all of them saying holiday still.  You hardly hear the word Christmas mentioned. When I was a kid we kind of followed the old German customs from my Dads family.  They had so many rules and customs. We always put the tree up Christmas Eve and took it down on the Epiphany. It had to be a real tree.  No gifts under the tree until Christmas Eve. At least there was one kind of cute commercial with John Travolta playing Santa Claus.  I almost didn't recognize him.  I recognized Donna Pescow first and she was only on for about 2 seconds.  After I saw her I realized who Santa had to be.

Our weather is still fantastic.  I am enjoying open windows and no heat or air running.

I haven't been in a store for years. Between being handicapped and the covid/flu viruses I have been doing pick up or mail orders. I would probably have culture shock if I went into WMart!

  7. You ladies seem to get so much done!  I don't think I have had a truly productive day since DH died. I make plenty of lists but can't seem to accomplish much. I think my list is just getting longer and longer.  I will have to live to 100 to get it all done!

It is still pretty warm here, but so pleasant.  About half of the leaves have fallen but we still haven't gotten real chilly.  I just love this weather when I don't have to run the a/c or heat.

I had to smile to myself picturing Jeepers with little stickers everywhere.  Reminds me of when the grands were little and would put stickers all over DH's face.

  8. Congrats on a new baby to love Littleister!   I can see a lot of cuddling in the future!

It has finally cooled down here too.  I have so much that needs to be done around here but it is just about impossible to find anyone willing to work. The lady that cuts my grass doesn't like to do anything else outside so I can't use her.  At least she keeps my grass under control.

I am already seeing big promotions for Christmas. It seems to start earlier every year.

    Have a great weekend ya'll.

  9. Why do we call this a service economy?  Look at all the troubles we have with doctors, insurance, repair folks etc. I know I spend alot of my time undoing other folks mistakes

I know a man who is still waiting for his car insurance settlement from a wreck 4 years ago.  His lawyer will get %45!!!  It wasn't a huge amount and no one was seriously hurt but it did cost him some time off work and minor injuries. He also lost his van. He has been through a bunch and it wasn't even his fault. I think they were hoping he would die since he is over 70 years old.

Our week long heat system finally broke yesterday.  It was actually 63 degrees when I woke up this am.  How nice.

  10. I sure hope Mt.RIder is ok.  She usually posts frequently.

We are under that heat dome until Friday. It will feel like 110 on Wednesday. Yikes! Another forum I go to is mainly folks from Texas. They have been living like this for well over a month. What misery.

You ladies do so much. I envy your mobility. I am thankful that I can at least transfer by myself.  Since I live alone I don't know what I would do if I couldn't do that. I hope I don't fall.  As fat as I am, I would probably bounce pretty good!

I usually leave the tv on but seldom watch it.  I guess I like the background noise. I don't have cable but I do stream alot of free stuff.  Pluto tv has many  educational documenteries.  I am learning so much about WW1 and 2. I do have Peacock for one year since they had a 99 cents a month special.

Still eating on my veggies. I have had squash a million different ways but I still love it. There were so many cherry tomatoes that I roasted them with spices and packaged them in little freezer bags.  I add one when I made soup or spaghetti.  The flavor is so intense!

I hope everyone's health improves. It makes life tough when you are in pain or ailing.

  11. We hit the start of the dog days of summer yesterday.  It got up to 94 and will be in the mid 90's for a week.  I am thankful I don't have to be outdoors.  Just hope my a/c keeps cranking away.

The hospice lady who used to come over to bathe DH stopped by this am. She is putting her garden to bed.  She brought me about 10 pounds of cherry tomatoes plus another 5 pounds of slicing maters.  I love them but I've never had enough to know what to do with the glut.  Any ideas?  She also brought zucchini, squash and green beans. She is the only hospice lady who I keep in touch with.. I pay her to mow my lawn.  She actually relaxes out in the sun going around in circles. She likes to have a nice tan and she enjoys the extra mad money she makes. I wish she had more free time.  I would love to have her help me do more things around here.

I'm definitely having fried green tomatoes for dinner tonight!

    Stay cool ladies!

  13. I still make the Impossible Pie recipes from the Bisquik box. They have both sweet and savory recipes.  One pie is great for a cheap easy family main dish.  I still love the coconut pie for a sweet one.  Quick and easy and no rolling dough.

  14. Littlesister and Jeepers, I admire you for getting organized.  I wish I could emulate you better.  I am trying but it seems like an impossible task. LIttlesister  hope your GS continues to improve. BeccaAnne I am so glad you got to spend so much time with your family. It's tough to leave the babies.

Today will be our hottest day yet but it's not that bad for this time of year.  It is supposed to cool down for the next few days so I will be turning off the a/c. Hopefully, it will help keep the electric bill down. They keep predicting rain but it is still fairly dry.  I don't have a single vegetable plant this year so nothing to water. The weeds are going great without much rain!

MtRider I get up early most days but it takes me awhile to get moving!  I putter around with internet and tea alot in the am.

Hope ya'll have a great Sunday.

  15. Becca Anne I am glad your travels have been uneventful...

Littlesister and MidnightMom know how hard it must be to deal with these young men.  Hopefully they will grow up some day.

Jeepers it sounds like you are getting things organized.

All I am doing is spinning my wheels.  Everything I  do seems to create more  to do.  My list gets longer, not shorter.  I did at least clear out a very large bag of old receipts and magazines. My computer and cell phone both died.  I got the computer fixed and bought a new cell phone.  Unfortunately, the clerk didn't scan it right and I spent alot of time today trying to get it working.  Gotta go back to the store tomorrow and have it scanned.  What a pain. Also the front tire of my electric wheelchair (which I am in all day long) has separated.  A new one is over 100$  That's just the wheel. Yikes!

I hope everyone has a nice Memorial Day holiday.  We all need a break and we need to remember those who gave the ultimate.

  16. Ya'll get so much done.  I feel like all I do is spin my wheels.  If I do get something checked off as complete on my job list, I find three more things to take it's place.

I am having problems getting my grass cut.  The lady who usually does it ,comes after work. She  has been unable to come because her mother is dying from breast cancer. She will come as soon as she can but I know her Mom is the most important right now.  Her Mom is lucky to have a daughter like her.  They have given her less than 3 months to live.

On the happy side we are still having incredible weather.  I am still not sweating!  Our high yesterday was 67 which is perfect to me. I wish I was able to garden but I have to be able to stay on pavement in my wheel chair or I will get stuck.

Hope everyone here has a great day!
