  1. What is highlighted in red is what scares me. This person could have landed in any airport prior to arriving in Dallas, exposing thousands of people. http://www.star-telegram.com/2014/09/30/6162320/cdc-team-mobilizing-to-come-to.html?rh=1 Ebola unconfirmed, CDC coming to Dallas Posted Tuesday, Sep. 30, 2014 A team from the Centers for Disease Controls is coming to Dallas in case a patient at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital tests positive for Ebola, media partner WFAA reported from the Dallas County Commission meeting Tuesday. Reporter Sebastian Robertson reported that the patient has not yet tested positive, but that a CDC team is mobilizing. The patient, who came to the hospital on his or her own, according to Dallas County Health Director Zachary Thomas, is being kept in strict isolation at the hospital, according to a statement released Monday by the hospital. Thomas said in an interview with WFAA that the patient had traveled to Africa. Dallas-Fort Worth Airport has no direct flights to and from Africa, so if the patient were flying, he or she would have had to make a connection elsewhere. Ebola more than 3,000 people across West Africa and infected a handful of Americans who have traveled to that region. Presbyterian Hospital released a statement Monday saying officials there were following CDC recommendations to keep doctors, staff and patients safe. The National Institutes of Health recently admitted an American doctor exposed to the virus while volunteering in Sierra Leone. Four other patients have been treated at hospitals in Georgia and Nebraska.
  2. Oh boy, this is scary. I just text my husband at work and asked him if he could bring home some surgical gowns/booties/hats.... for halloween. He works in a hospital (non-healthcare worker) and a few years ago he brought some home for the kids to play with. He thinks I'm off the wall already so I told him it's for a halloween costume.
  3. Step 1: "We admitted we were powerless over our addiction ~ that our lives had become unmanageable." Just sayin'. Can you imagine all of us getting together in a room trying to do an intervention on the other ones. Who would be the designated sponsor? "Ya but I only have 900 masks. You have 1000. You need help! What next, 50 bottles of hand sanitizer? You really need to face reality and get with the program. If your sponsor is out shopping...call another one, and another one..." LMAO!!! Yeah, I guess it's like the pot calling the kettle black! Ironically, I don't have a stash of TP. We use family cloth and if I have one roll of paper TP in the house that is a lot. I should stock up on paper TP in case I can't use my washer for what ever reason. Toothpaste. Nuff said. Toothpaste!! Yes!!
  4. The confirmation says four boxes, so we shall see. I was going through my closet and other hiding places because I wanted to inventory and inspect the other masks I have. The last time I gave my DH one box for his workshop the elastic was degrading and broke on two of the masks. I have to hide most of my stash because he is NOT on board with prepping. I found four cases of N95's that I had forgotten about! I have at least 1,000 N95 masks. I literally could keep my neighborhood covered. I think I need a 12-step program.
  5. I got a notice from Amazon saying my order has shipped!
  6. Oh wow, I hope that isn't the case. I really thought I ran across a bargain. On my invoice I can click "buy again", but it says they are out of stock. I guess I will just have to wait and see if they fulfill my order.
  7. I found these on Amazon. They are not N100, they are N99. I looked up the difference and its a .97 difference in protection. They come to $1.39 per mask when added the cost of shipping. They were $55.70 for four boxes of 10 masks. I bought some tyvek suits too. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002448YEY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 This link shows the difference in the levels of protection: http://www.cdc.gov/niosh/npptl/topics/respirators/disp_part/ This is the best I can do right now, money is too tight for the pricier ones.
  8. I bought some of the cheap pleated ones for the sick person to wear. I figure they will keep a persons cough from spreading all over the place.
  9. I have tons of N95 masks but none of the N100. My husband works in a hospital and I'm so afraid of him bringing anything home. He came down with Dysentery a few years ago and the only thing he can think of was he was working in the ER and must have caught it there. He isn't even a healthcare worker, he is a computer tech. I don't know what kind of masks they will provide him at the hospital so I think i will pick up a few N100's for him. The N95 will have to do for the rest of us because I can't afford to stock the N100's. I literally have hundreds of N95's. I'm going to have to prioritize supplies as I'm not working and we are living on one income. A few years ago I was well prepared for pandemic flu, but this time around I'm finding many gaps in my supplies.
  10. A few years ago I stocked up heavily on N95 masks. I found these Duck-Bill masks that fit my two youngest children. My little one was probably about 5 and these fit her well enough that there were no gaps. My older daughter was about 15 and she has a very small face. The Duck-Bill masks were the only ones that fit her without a gap too. I want to add a caution to those who, like me, stocked up on masks. My DH uses them in his workshop when painting or using solvents. More than one of my boxes of masks that I purchased a few years ago had the strap degrade enough that they pulled off when trying to put them on. Check your masks and make sure they are not too old that they are unusable. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Box-of-35-Kimberly-Clark-Technol-Fluidshield-Particulate-Respirator-Mask-Small-/331301745618?_trksid=p2054897.l5660 I also have those other masks that are pictured above in a previous post. They are not N95 masks but I figured if someone was sick and coughing they can be used on the patient to keep from spraying their cough.
  11. I was just reading the thread again (a refresher!) and was thinking of how I could isolate a family member if need be. My master bedroom has a bathroom, which would be very convenient, but all of my ceilings are cathedral-type. I don't have a room in my house (it's a one floor ranch with angled ceilings) where I could seal off with plastic. My master bedroom has a "sitting room", which I turned into an 8x10 pantry. There is a half wall dividing the rooms, but no way to seal off all of my food/preps from the "sick" area by the bathroom. I think I need to pick up a commode and use my spare bedroom as a sick room if needed. But there again is the problem of not being able to seal off the room to isolate a sick person. The door frame is squared, I could tape off the doorway, but that won't give me the yellow and green zones. I need to think more on this subject and see what I can figure out.
  12. I know this is an old thread but I figured I would post for future use. If the Dr prescribed Tamiflu you should take it. There is a small window of opportunity for the Tamiflu to work, something like 48-72 hrs from when symptoms first start. If you wait until you feel really bad it could be too late to take it and have any results. Most people that get very sick with the flu suffer from secondary infections. The Zpak is an antibiotic that can fight secondary infections, which can keep you out of the hospital.
  13. I have used Similisan earache drops and they work very well. They are in the baby section, but I have used them on myself. I know someone said thermometers/covers, I want to make a plug for those thermometer strips that you just put on a forehead and take the temp. When my kids were really sick last year I was able to take their temperature without waking them up. I went online and bought a dozen of them lol.. They really were helpful when I didnt want to disturb a sleeping child.
