  1. I had one of those pre Y2K. I don't remember what happened to it, but I vaguely remember not being impressed by its effectiveness. I'm glad yours has worked for you all of these years. I have one of the newer battery operated jar sealers now as I was having trouble using the attachment that came with my FoodSaver.

  2. A while back you posted that he had a "plan" for reaching an ultimate goal. I think he "thinks" he has a plan that he told you about, but methinks he doesn't have any plan other than playing on your love and sympathies. I wish you the best in getting him motivated, but you have to cut bait sometime. Sooner rather than later.

Some people have joined a gym so they have someplace to take a shower. Maybe you should suggest that to him as an alternative. Or, he can rent a space in a campsite so he can park his car to sleep in it, or buy a small tent to pitch on his lot, and use the camp's facilities for showers, etc. Some of them even have laundry facilities on site.

I'll bet he could find study material online; possibly even as interactive sites or YT channels.

  4. I2 heads of cabbage made 4 gallons of kraut. That amount of kraut made 24 pints with some left over for immediate use (refrigerated) and some to give to a friend. I had one jar that was plain ol' kraut, and a smaller one that I added some pepperoncini too for a bit of spice/heat. Who knew that the spicy kraut would taste so good with a bit of pepperoni served with it??? It was yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.......... sorry, no pics, but trust me, it was GOOD!

24 pints of waterbath canned homemade fermented sauerkraut. I want to try it, but I don't want to spoil the symmetry of the boxes they are stored in.......................... yet. :24:

I agree that most of what is done on a farm could be done in an urban setting.  Perhaps not raising large livestock but certainly the gardening, small animals, processing, and cooking from scratch with fresh wholesome food.

There is a relatively new YT channel called "Becoming a Farm Girl" that does exactly what you are suggesting ; except for the livestock, that is.

What is that little countertop stove Rose Red uses? That looks pretty nice and convenient. It might be for convection pans though.

I went to her "Amazon Store" and found the link to the stove she uses: https://a.co/d/302J2KB

I've been looking at dual fuel butane and propane stoves they seem pretty affordable and can be used inside, so thinking I'll pick one up. I used to have a camping stove but I think I gave it to my SIL before we moved. Also want to pick up some bags of charcoal to store to use outside on our grill. This house came with a grill like the kinds you see at public parks, so I thought that would be good as a backup.

I have one. The butane is hard to find, but we have a "Chef's Store" here and they carry it in 3 packs.

Also exercises. Nothing upright but to do them sitting down or on the floor. Figures now that I don't have a TV or DVD player. Suppose I'll just get down there and flop around some. I really used to like my Sweatin' To The Oldies and I miss doing those. Nice music and not too strenuous.

You can find them on YT!

Today I dug out the old water tubs (15 gallon) from when I had the goats. I had 5 of them. Plus 2 blue tubs that I use in the farm garden when harvesting. Plus 1 black pot that a tree came in (kids got me a couple years ago for Mother’s Day). DH drilled holes in the bottom of them and I lined them up along the back of the house (faces east). Figure they are out of sight from the road and only the neighbor to the south (DH’s cousin) can see them. They will get good morning sun, but be shaded in the afternoon. I’m hoping that this keeps them from getting too hot/drying out... especially the black ones.

Something to be aware of/watch out for: You might want to hang a net or a shade cloth or something similar on the side of the house behind those pots. I found out the hard way that the sun RELFECTS off of those surfaces and you can kill your plants if they get too much radiant heat from the building.

  10. Added some more flowers to my "garden." Had to "transplant" some others to accomodate the changes.

BTW - take a look at the Gnomes. One of them is not like the others - can you find it???

I saw that too. Still, $9.00 a can for probably only a couple of sandwiches plus the bread, kraut, cheese and mayo would be a pretty expensive sandwich. Even if it makes two.

Had to try it as I was curious about whether it would be like the "other" stuff. It t'weren't. It was surprisingly good, but undecided if I will spring for a few more cans or not.

Now if I ran the world... here we go... they would only do shopping during certain hours once or twice a day. And, the greeters wouldn't be just standing there looking at their phone. Their job would be to to unstick those carts so all a person has to do is go in and grab a single cart without trying to wrestle one out of a whole line of mangled carts that are all stuck together.

One more thing, piercing is a personal choice. I'm fine with them. But when I go through a drive-thru I don't want to see a nose piercing hanging down like their nose is running. Take it out while you are serving food. I only got a sweet tea but it looked gross.

I got in line next to a guy whose butt crack was half out because his pajamas were falling down. He was over weight. So am I but I don't wear my loose fitting jammies to the grocery store. He was in his 60's and should know better. And he smelled pretty bad too. I ususlly don't pick that up. So he must have been pretty bad. I wasn't in the mood. Summer is coming on so I guess we'll be seeing halter tops and short shorts before long. Bellies and thighs galore.

People are beginning to annoy me. And autocorrect...if I type one single letter 'i' you know it is supposed to be capitalized. There is no single lower case i. <-- And you do know what a contraction is, right? Do your job.

Let it all out, Jeeps! :24:

    (Color coded responses follow..............)

I like your idea about the employee shopping for online orders being limited to certain hours. They are usually shopping for at least 6 people at one time so those "carts" are huge. The only advantage I see to them is that there are so many of them (at least in the grocery section) that if you need help with a price or getting an item from a top shelf you can usually corral one of them into helping instead of picking on a random shopper who is taller than you are! :D

Anyone who works around food should not be allowed to wear their facial piercings around oral cavities while working! :yuk:

Some overweight people try to fool themselves that they aren't as big as they are by wearing ill fitting clothes. I notice this mostly in men who buy pants that fit around the "waist;" the waist BELOW their abdomen so that sometimes you can see their belly fat hanging over their belt because their shirt isn't long enough to cover it! Then there are those skinny people who have no butt to hold their pants up and the only reason they don't drop to the floor is because their "equipment" holds the pants up. :shakinghead:

You're right, "autocorrect" isn't always correct. I hate typing responses into my cell phone! And "talk to text" isn't much smarter because it doesn't know how to pick the correct homophone based on context. I see "flower" instead of "flour" about 99% of the time! :tapfoot:

  13. I have the 11.5oz can of the Corned Beef. It was $6.99/can at the Grocery Outlet store.

If you purchase any of the 12 packs online, it works out slightly cheaper than what I paid........................ but who has $100 to spend on cans of corned beef!!!!

However, I did find it available on Amazon by the can and that makes it $8.99/can (with Prime) .................. https://a.co/d/7i7MiHl

Was it you that wanted to put-up corned beef?

I've treid the CB that comes in the same size and shape of SPAM cans. Did not like it at all!!!

Was shopping at the Grocery Outlet and found this! Like it says on the can, it was chunky - but not soft and mushy at all. I made a very tasty Reuben sandwhich (or two) with it. Am going back to the store to pick up a few more cans. :yum3:

Wide mouth jars are different. I can only fit 8 in my canner too. Regardless of whether they are Ball or Kerr. If I'm not mistaken, I can get 13 half pints in the bottom of my canner and only 12 in the top. It might be an issue with the rack but I use the same kind for the top and bottom of the canner. I could be wrong about that. I'll pay better attention next time I can.

Can only get 7 quart jars in the canner at one time. Nine jars is for the pint size jars........................ unless it's a load of the ones that are "fatter." :canning:

MidnightMom we were typing at the same time. Seeing that jar I have a couple of those jars. They have that same picture on them. Didn't know they were Mom's jars.

I didn't say they were "Mom's" jars, I just said I had some other brand that is "fatter" and "squatter" than Ball & Kerr jars are. Can only fit 8 of them in the canner at one time. ;)

I used to have some of the Moms canning jars. They were more square shaped and the pints seemed a little shorter than Ball jars. Still a pint but shaped differently.

I have some jars like that, too. But these are NEW jars. I can only fit 8 into the canner at a time instead of 9 and they take up just the tiniest amount of extra space on the shelf so it throws off the whole symmetry of stacking them. They say mason on the back of the jar, but that just means canning for these jars - not the brand name bacause it isn't stylized like the logo would be.

(BTW, these were gifted to me so I have no idea of the brand. )

Might could do 20 bags at a time. It is on sale till the 17th at $2.00 a bag. So will need to just drive to Lowe's in hope's my knee holds out or maybe wait till GS is off work and can drive me there to pick it up.

Can you do a short term rental on a pickup from Lowe's to get it all home at one time?

I'm pretty sure you can rent one at Home Depot so I was wondering if Lowe's has the same option.
