  1. we have changed the way we are eating too---

on the night the guys have fire department meeting--I went to a very simple can of soup with grilled cheese sandwitches--easy and CHEAP

I am adding in a fried potatoes, cornbread, pinto beans meal once a week--(this is hubby's fav meal anyway--so he is not suffering at all with this one)

Now that it is getting cold, I will be adding in another bean meal each week--they are so simple and easy

I am also trying to add in more soups, gumbo, etc--they are filling and cheap

We also got another deep freezer so we can get more deer this deer season--that way we don't have to buy meat unless we want too...

  2. sounds like you have it all down!!! while, I prefer the washing machine and dryer, dishwasher, and my wonderful steam mop--i feel the same way, as i look around outside and see (in my head) where all the plants and trees are going to provide us with almost all our food for a year--hopefully we will be there by next summer--still have more cleanup to do--in the meantime--the garden is almost ready, the fruit trees are blooming, and i planted a ton of blue berries, black berries, raspberries, and grapes--the strawberry bed is in, the asparagus is in, potatoes and onion and garlic all look great!!!

  3. this is what i have been up to this week...

    1. go to goodwill and get a ton of wool and alpaca sweaters

    2. take them home and shrink them

    3. sew up some niffy mittens with a polar fleece lining

    4. make a whole bunch and put them away for gift giving

these are sold in boutiques for $50 a pair--I can make around 20 pair for $10 :cloud9:

  4. well, so far this week...

    26 pints of pinto beans

    20 pints of red beans

    20 points of navy beans

    20 pints of lima beans

35 pints of black eyed peas

    15 pints of black beans

15 pints of great northern beans

:canning::sassing: i think i am going a little crazy right now

i still have about 100 pounds of beans to go--i figure--why not?? i have the time and the jars--and it will keep them from getting old

  5. sorry--just saw the question--i have ordered morning moo from several different companies (all in utah) --we also enjoy the chocolate and the strawberry flavored one--i am lactose intolerant so i use it for me and for cooking--but the kids started drinking it and never noticed the difference-- i have ordered it in #10 cans and also in 5 gallon buckets sealed for long term storage--i haven't ordered any in awhile (because i had quite a bit to use up) so i don't know who has it the cheapest these days... do a google search and you will see several companies who sell it

  6. I finally gave up on mine and threw them all away--I had a complete set--about 30 pieces in all and they were always rusty and everything stuck to them--I absolutely hated them :motz_6: I know that as a good survivalist, I have failed :Blushing: but I had just had it--I am swearing I will not try it again--give me some good nonstick skillets from now on. I had tried seasoning them myself and buying preseasoned ones--nothing worked. I finally had to admit I am a complete failure as a cast iron user :sad-smiley-012:

  7. :behindsofa: I have so many of these things--and love them!!!

    love my breadmaker

    love my rice maker

love my doggie grass pee thing

I guess some of the ones that seem pretty useless to me is the one that peels eggs--and the pan that cuts the brownies all into exact same size pieces (I ALWAYS let my kids cut them--one to cut, one gets to pick first--they ALWAYS came out really even :24:

The one I never understood was a treadmill--if you want to walk--go walk

  8. we do our version of square foot gardening at home--i built the boxes--16 of them--and did the soil the way he says inthe book--i love it!!! i put chicken wire under mine because of the gopher problem that we have had for several years and it worked great!! it also helped us keep the veggies from being in our water logged soil--because of the long growing season down here in the south i planted the boxes over a month and a half--that way it was not all ready at once--it made it really nice to stagger the harvest out over a period of time--

    Just a thought...
I use a lap quilting frame--it is like a big embordiary hoop-- i have used it for over 25 years. You can get them at hobby lobby type stores for around $30.00. You have to start in the middle of the quilt and work your way around--to keep it all even. And you might have to up your basting a little--I don't baste at all anymore!!cheer

I never had room for the big frames and these are much easier to take with you if you quilt while traveling.
  10. You might be a survivalist if...

---You're dd calls you completely out of breath because she just found 50 5 gallon buckets at the donut store that they want to sell for $10.

---You always ask for a living plant instead of flowers ie. an apple tree for Valentines day

---Family members call you on a regular basis to get the latest information on the Bilderburg group

---The only door in your home that locks is the Pantry

---You plan an entirely ediable landscape

---you have ever looked at your house on google earth to see if you need to plant more trees to hide the house from google earth

shrug I'm not sure but I think there are people out there who do these things. whistling
