  1. Jeepers,  DH refuses to cut my hair "unless we are living in Mad Max times".  His words.

I think he could do it, he just refuses.  He sure has enough opinions for how I should do things when I'm cutting DD's hair.  :pout:

Cutting hair is harder than it looks.   DD is quite offended that I won't let her cut my hair.   I could very easily see things not going how she wants it to after the first few cuts and then lots of crying (on her part, not mine).   I told her if she talked Daddy into cutting my hair, she could be his assistant.  :happy0203:  They talked, DH still refuses.

  2. Has anyone cut their own hair?   I really need a haircut.   Everything I'm seeing online for self-haircuts  is for layering.  I don't want layers.  I want all one length.  Nothing fancy.   I have straight hair that needs to be a foot or so shorter.  It is too long.

  3. Start here    https://hslda.org/legal/

Make sure you are following the law.   Homeschooling has increased since 2020 and so has wrong information about homeschooling.  First thing is to make sure you are following the law in your state.  Each state is different.

HSLDA also has articles about getting started https://hslda.org/get-started

Convention season is coming up.   I know it probably won't help with finishing this school year,  but if there is a nearby convention and they are able to attend, I've heard those are helpful.  And there are vendors, so you can see curriculum and materials in person.    I've never been to one.

For curriculum, look first at what your state has for requirements (if any) for covered subjects and go from there.

I've homeschooled my DD (just finished up 4th grade)  from the beginning, so I don't know about helping with the transition from public school to homeschool.  I'll try to help answer any questions you might have, but I'm not an expert.

Are they planning to homeschool just to finish out this school year or is this something they want to continue?

For curriculum and materials,  I mostly use

    Christian Book  https://www.christianbook.com/page/homeschool?navcat=Homeschool

    Rainbow Resources https://www.rainbowresource.com/

and I also buy directly from some of the publishers as they run good sales.

Many people buy curriculum and books used as it saves $.   I can't do that due to allergies/sensitivities, but if I could buy used, I would look into the used stuff on Exodus books.  Exodus sells new things as well.   https://www.exodusbooks.com/

    edited to add:

    These are good!

  4. Jeepers, try removing that with olive oil, but you might want to wait until the monitor is off in case it messes with the adhesive altogether.   Baby oil or vegetable oil would probably work, too.   I used olive oil though, as that is the oil I am not allergic to.

It is very windy here.  Lots of rain and some flooding (not my house, but nearby).   Everyone is thankful it is not raining today.  The wind has me concerned as the ground is so saturated...not great for trees staying upright.

Miki, congratulations on the new pup.

LittleSister, I hope you are feeling better.   That is great that your family helped!

Becca,  does magnesium help with your tachycardia?    I saw good results using it.

MtRider, I hope you are able to find a good solution for your pup during your vacation.

Didn't Wormy pass away? I thought I read a post from Laurie that said they divorced and after the divorce he passed away. Please tell me I am wrong.

    You're thinking of Amishway Homesteader.

I hope you had a Happy Birthday, Wormie!

  6. Jeepers, I always thought empty rooms were better anyway.   Empty means people having an easier time imagining their things in that space.   Plus, empty rooms seem bigger and most people want more space.

Here, houses are gone within days of being listed and there are bidding wars way over the asking price.   You might want to start talking with realtors NOW and get it listed ASAP before this bubble pops.    Plus, there's a little boy in Indy waiting for his Grandma.

Louisa May Alcott is one of my all time favorites. I didn't read her until I was in my 30's. I'm sure I'll revisit her when I get settled down with more time.

I had the Little Women series (Little Women, Little Men and Jo's Boys) from when I was growing up.   Mine are in a sorry state, but I haven't been able to find made in USA, unabridged, unedited,  hardcovers, without a commentary/introduction in them.

I also had Under the Lilacs, which we've already done as a family readaloud.   Since having DD, I'm thankful to have added to our home library: Hospital Sketches , An Old Fashioned ThanksgivingJack and JillEight CousinsRose in Bloom (sequel to Eight Cousins)  and An Old Fashioned Girl.   I'm getting to read good books I unknowingly missed when I was growing up.

I'm always surprised by how much more expensive gas is in Indiana compared to Ohio. You'd think over in northwest Indy it would be cheaper because of the huge refinery in Whiting. Nope.

Is it Indy's taxes on gas?   PA has very high state taxes on gas.

  9. LittleSister, I hope you are feeing better soon!  We also entertained a baby with books.   We liked the board books by Sandra Boynton when DD was a baby.  Those were the only board books I could find that were made in the USA.    It is funny that years later we still have some of them memorized.

MtRider, I hope you didn't end up with much more snow.  Take care of yourself that you don't overdo things too much.   :hug3: You can always send some snow this way!   We were only able to get DD's sled out once in the past 2 winters.

Happy Anniversary, Euphrasyne and Mr. Euphrasyne!

Jeepers, I appreciate your updates on stores and shopping!   DH doesn't seem to notice things unless it is something I specifically put on the shopping list.

TMC, my problem is that after I organize, I can't find anything.

    Ann, your painting is amazing!

  10. Our family readaloud is George Muller by Janet and Geoff Benge.    DD and I are reading Little Women by Louisa May Alcott together.    In my stack, I'm reading Christian Leaders of the 18th Century by JC Ryle and Little Men by Louisa May Alcott.

    What are you reading?

  11. Momo,.  Hang in there.  I don't get much accomplished, either.   :hug3:    Many days it is barely anything.

LS,  for your little GGD.   Here's something neat...when baby is ill,  the mother's breastmilk changes to help baby fight off the illness.   So the mother actually makes antibodies in her breastmilk to fight something the mother's body isn't fighting off!   It amazes me how God designed these things to work.

We put hair from DD's last haircut in the yard under the bird feeders.   Interesting to watch some of the birds gather it for nesting material.

It was in the 70s today.   We have a few daffodils poking up in the yard.  This was the 2nd winter in a row with barely any snow.   I don't mind winter...no pollen, no slitheries.
