MtRider, Is it Indy's taxes on gas? PA has very high state taxes on gas.

LittleSister, I hope you are feeing better soon! We also entertained a baby with books. We liked the board books by Sandra Boynton when DD was a baby. Those were the only board books I could find that were made in the USA. It is funny that years later we still have some of them memorized. MtRider, I hope you didn't end up with much more snow. Take care of yourself that you don't overdo things too much. You can always send some snow this way! We were only able to get DD's sled out once in the past 2 winters. Happy Anniversary, Euphrasyne and Mr. Euphrasyne! Jeepers, I appreciate your updates on stores and shopping! DH doesn't seem to notice things unless it is something I specifically put on the shopping list. TMC, my problem is that after I organize, I can't find anything. Ann, your painting is amazing!

Miki, I'm sorry about Oreo. Jeepers, for good healthcare practitioners and good results for you and your DS.

Euphrasyne, I'm sorry for your loss.

Momo, . Hang in there. I don't get much accomplished, either. Many days it is barely anything. LS, for your little GGD. Here's something neat...when baby is ill, the mother's breastmilk changes to help baby fight off the illness. So the mother actually makes antibodies in her breastmilk to fight something the mother's body isn't fighting off! It amazes me how God designed these things to work. We put hair from DD's last haircut in the yard under the bird feeders. Interesting to watch some of the birds gather it for nesting material. It was in the 70s today. We have a few daffodils poking up in the yard. This was the 2nd winter in a row with barely any snow. I don't mind winter...no pollen, no slitheries.

Momo, I hope you have a better day tomorrow.

LittleSister, my DD wouldn't take a bottle, either. I asked my doula about it and she said some breastfed babies just refuse bottles, they want the milk straight from mama. I didn't blame DD one bit! The few times I tried pumping milk, I hated it and cried, too...I wanted to cuddle my baby, not have plastic hooked up to me. People told me that everyone pumped and my baby HAD to learn to drink from a bottle. They were wrong; we did fine without. We were never separated, though.

Grocery Challenge
out_of_the_ordinary replied to mommato3boys's topic in In The Kitchen-The Heart Of Our Home
Food in my state isn't taxed unless it is snack/junk food or things like pop (soda). We also don't have a tax on clothing here. Everything else--Pennsylvania will tax your last dime. Baggers make less than the cashiers, so having baggers usually is the less expensive option for busy stores as they are paying the cashier to do one job, not the cashier's job and a bagger's job. I hope that makes sense. Stores aren't going to change things to cut costs for the consumers unless they are losing business to stores who are doing those things. It is the free market. People vote with their dollars. Same with Made in USA vs. Made in China. People say more stuff should be manufactured in the USA. Manufacturing in the USA is much more expensive...people are paid wages, benefits, ect; business taxes and regulations; environmental regulations....all is passed on in the cost of a product. Again, people vote with their dollars. -
Grocery Challenge
out_of_the_ordinary replied to mommato3boys's topic in In The Kitchen-The Heart Of Our Home
Respectfully, I disagree. We don't want MORE government regulation! Production costs are up and the stores and farmers can't just eat that cost. One of the grocery stores around here is now starting baggers off at over $17/hour (and still can't get workers). Their rising cost of just trying to employe people is being passed on to the consumer (among other rising costs). -
Happy Birthday, Mother!

Miki, I feel whiny come summertime. I don't do well in heat and humidity that we get here; I can't imagine your summers.

It is sleeting here.

Is it true? Is Cat really back???

Cat, it is so good to see you here again! I'm so glad you are back!! -
Jeepers, do you know how to shut the water off for your house? Where your main valve is? Shut that off. Then shut off the water going to the toilet tank, flush the toilet, flush again....no water in tank or bowl. Open up faucets to let the water in the lines drain. Shut faucets off after water stops coming out. Then, if you do lose power there's not water flooding the house. edited to add: There would still be water in things like your hot water heater and some in the drain lines, but you wouldn't have the flooding issues you had before.

Not A 'Nature' Related Question But An Rx one
out_of_the_ordinary replied to Jeepers's topic in Nature's Pharmacy
DH was prescribed one of those blister pack things of pred early this summer for poison ivy (it has spread to his face). I think the instructions said to break up the dosages. Like the day he was to take six--2 in the am, 2 lunchish, 2 later in the afternoon. I hate being on pred as it makes me very jittery...and I don't sleep much. DD noticed some jitteryness and tried to keep his dosages away from near bedtime. I think you should wait to start taking it until you can get ahold of your doctor's office or pharmacist to see what is recommened for you, though.
