  1. Miki, I know what you mean about the running around to get things done. I am still planning that trip to the next town over.  It will be an all-day thing. Might see if my next-door neighbor would want to go. I will ask her when I am ready to make the trip. Just waiting now for warmer weather and no rain.

Bedroom is now clean, and closet empty. Now for the question, to paint or not to paint. That is the question. I'm not in the mood to paint and the closet isn't that bad. But would be refreshing to have it done. Thinking about it.

GS is off today. So, stacking wood and cleaning his bathroom today. He owes me for the 2 pizzas I bought him. It's still a lot of wood to stack.

  2. That's a good way to tell how inflation has been over the years. The only thing I have to remember back from the 50's and 60's is what I could remember from my father's advertising. He worked on those from home. And I remember a few things but not all. Funny how some of those prices stuck in my mind over all those years.

  3. Congratulations Mommato3boys.  I know that job will help with a lot of needs.

I am also trying to get my ducks in a row. Organization one room at a time. Started first on my bedroom. Took everything out that was piled in there while cleaning other parts of house. All is now in Living room with the exception of the closet. I will empty that out maybe tomorrow. And put things from there in living room. There is no furniture much in there so I can go through things much easier with everything in one place. So, the living room is my one dumping ground for now. Seems it's the easiest way for me to work things out and organize. GS is off tomorrow So he is going to organize my spices for me. Said he is going to do it like the store does. I put the spice stands together today so that is all set for him to start on tomorrow.

Moved my bed around on another wall.  Made it easier to clean the floor and things. Dressers will stay in the same place. Not sure now that I can get a chair in there. But maybe could move my sewing machine in there instead of dining room. Will see how that goes later.

Washed sheets and blankets this morning.  Straighten up the kitchen and started on bedroom early this morning. I am about ready to drop. But still some things to get done.

Hoping it will warm up again so I can get some things done outside also. Weather held me back on stacking the rest of the firewood. Next time I won't order it in the wintertime. Lesson learned on that one. I kept a couple of baby blankets I had made, and the rest went to the church for the preg. crises center.  Might finish emptying out the bedroom closet in a bit. I needed a breather. I was doing it a little at a time but putting things in corner of bedroom didn't work out to well. Wasn't easy to go through things that way. So will start finishing the closet soon.

  4. I also will check that out.

Jeepers, I think I know who you are talking about. I have seen some videos about a guy giving the prices of things.  I got interested in it. He talked a lot about Kroger's digital prices and Walmart also.

  5. I have never seen the Lipton Iced tea sweetened before. Think I might get some of that also.

Prices are getting crazy high now. And the supply and demand aren't going to help that any. Not to mention a disruption in our food supply.

  6. My father was a commercial artis. He did the newspaper ads for the Giant Open-Air Market. This was back in the 50's and 60's. I can't remember all the prices, but I do remember some of them.

Fresh chicken was 19 cents a lb.

eggs, one doz. was 10 cents.

    5lbs sugar was 1. 39

    5lbs flour was 1.59.

Can veggies were 10cents a can.

I can't remember the price of beef or pork but was much cheaper than today's prices. But this sort of gives you an idea of how much our food has gone up in price.

The house I am living in now, my DH paid $35,000 for now my house is worth 350,000. This tells you how bad things have gotten over the years.

The Giant open-air market has been closed now for many years. I think it was bought out by another company but can't remember who.

  7. You have been busy Miki.

Mommato3boys, glad that snow is melting fast. So far, we haven't had anything but rain.

GD's DH just picked the baby up a bit ago. He seems to be feeling much better. So might have just had a 24-hour virus type thing. Now I am missing my GGD. We had fun. But there will be other times. Both grandparents are taking turns.

Now to get back to working on bedroom closet.  Late start but well worth it.

  8. Waiting for GD to bring GGD to me and then she will go home to disinfect her house and wash sheets and things. Her DH may have the flu though he went to work this morning.  I have sprayed my house with Lysol this morning and did some things as GS may have a cold but not sure. He is more tired than anything and his sinuses are dry to the point of some nose bleeds if he blows his nose to hard.  I gave him a saline solution to use and that seems to be helping him. But still spraying everything down really good. I don't want to take chances.

  9. GS left for work a while ago. I am just worn out for some reason. Maybe weather. Cloudy and raining off and on. Just dreary outside.  I am ready for a nap but trying to fight it.

Did get kitchen cleaned up again. GS came in 3 times during the night and made a mess. It really is getting old, and the Coast Guard needs to hurry up and get him in. This has drug on for too long. I think he is getting frustrated about it now.

  10. I guess next time I encounter someone pushing me out of the way while checking out and putting his groceries on top of mine, I will have to use that look and push his stuff back down out of my way. But the cashier knew just how to handle it by moving my things to other side of register and then stopping the belt before his stuff could get down toward the register. Then she took her sweet time bagging up my groceries and then slowly rang him out. So, I did get a good laugh out of it.

Didn't go to church today as I got up and knee was killing me. I could hardly walk without pain. So heating pad and Advil this morning. It is the right knee so didn't want to drive with it like that. It's better now but still sore to bend it.

Going to be working on some things in a bit. I really need to finish up in my bedroom closet. Organization takes too long to figure out what to put where and what to get rid of. But it is something that has to be done.

  11. If this was disease X or any other disease that could be contagious. All those passengers were exposed. Now they are scattered to who knows where. This is how pandemics get spread all over the world. So, I am guessing we will never know what this man died from. It will be hushed up like so many other things they don't want us to know. Pandemics with the proper info going out to the people could also help to stop the spread from going too far. But again, we may never know till it is too late.

  12. I also keep garlic in fridge and on counter. I use a lot of it in many dishes.

I have the tomato bullion as well.  I

I do have a long list of spices, but GS is supposed to help me get them organized after I unpacked them and just set them all on shelf in closet. I order the racks that GS said I needed to set them up much like they do at his work. I put it all on the back burner, but GS said we need to get it done before they call him in to Coast Guard. He saw recruiter the other day and took the physical copies of his lab to them. So, he is now on the waiting list to be called in. Hopefully not too much longer.

  13. I have those bags you are talking about. Got mine 2 years ago. But planting potatoes for me was not very successful. But that was my first time planting them. I have learned a lot more about planting potatoes since then. So, wanting to try it again. Hopefully will be more successful at it.  I am also putting in several raised beds as it is getting too hard for me to get down like I used to. Starting to have issues with my right knee now which is not good since I drive with my right foot.  I just have to get them set up. So, working on those plans. Might have to hire some help if my GD's DH is unable to help me. I will see her on Monday so might ask about that. I am supposed to help her start a garden this spring. Going to be a busy spring, summer and fall when the harvesting starts.

Darlene, since you have grown potatoes before, you should have better success with the bags than I did. But I am not giving up.

  14. Midnightmom, my neighbor's dog will come to her, but she didn't know she had left the yard. Her punishment is having to wear her shock collar for 2 days.

Mommato3boys, I am so sorry about your friend's son. Things like that are happening way too often.  Hope you don't get more than an inch of snow. I hate snow.  Try to get some rest and have lots of energy tomorrow.

I am winding down now myself.

finally got a chance to talk with my next-door neighbor. She seems to be doing ok. Still having to do a lot of paperwork. And going through things but she's getting there. I do remember the paperwork and phone calls I had to make when my DH passed. Seemed like it would never end. Her DH had a DNR and the same hospital my DH was in, incubated him anyway. He also went into total renal failure. But the rest was a multitude of health issues. She had to force them to remove it. He started aspirating because of it. So, the hospital is still not very good at taking proper care of the patients.

  15. Went shopping this morning. T.J. Max had a Clearance on baby clothes and toys. I went to find a basket or something to store baby toys when the baby wasn't here. But I did good. Instead of a basket I found a much-needed ottoman. It is a smaller one, but the lid opens, and it locks so it can't fall down on you. So that will be the baby's toy box and I get a foot stool out of it. Then when GD and her DH get transferred somewhere else, then I can use it for my throws. It will go with any furniture I buy. So that will be great.

Got play pen put together so everything is now set up for starting baby sitting on Monday. Enough toys to keep baby entertained till past age 2. By then they will probably be living in Florida next when they get transferred.

73* today and started raining a little while ago. Was hoping when I got home and got things put away and a few other things done I could start stacking wood again. Nope not now.

Miki, I agree with you on the snow. I to will take my 73* weather any day other than snow.

Jeepers, and Mt. Rider, I didn't need to give that guy a nasty look. I pushed his stuff back out of my way. But then he took that space and started to put stuff on top of my stuff. But it got taken care of.

  16. Momo, hopefully they will get your chair fixed soon. I know that is hard being stuck in the house. Can you use door dash. My GS is hooked on that a bit too much. But it's nice to have it once in a while.

I start babysitting on Monday. So will be setting up the playpen this weekend. I have toys and books to read to her as well. GD will be working from here instead of at home since she is still nursing. So, works out great. Seems this child loves to be entertained. So, I will only be doing things around here when she naps.

Jeepers, you will get it all done. It just takes time.  For me it will take forever as I keep having interruptions. But the next interruption is going to be a lot of fun. Babysitting GGD. Hard to believe she is now 4 months old. She's growing up too fast.

I washed 2 loads of clothes this evening and have the last one in dryer. So that will be out of the way.  I have been sitting here cancelling all my recurring payments for things like Disney plus and such. I never watch anything on there anymore since I cancelled the cable. So got all that done and out of the way.

  17. Euphrosyne, that is just too funny. But if it keeps her quiet and out of trouble that is a good thing. She is a cutie.

Went to Kroger and returned that cough Syrup. Then walked around the store for a bit. So was trying to get some walking in again today. But made the mistake of taking a small shopping cart. Picked up a few sale items. Some baby clothes for GGD. She is growing like a weed. She is 4 months old today. Picked up a few sale items that I was either out of or very low on but not much of anything. Got to the checkout line and a guy came up behind me and started putting his groceries on top of mine. I pushed his stuff back so I could finish getting my things out of basket and then had to move my stuff to other side of register for her to ring me out. What was up with that. She stopped the conveyor belt on him to stop his groceries from getting mixed in with mine. All I could say is what a jerk.

Going to put in a load of laundry in a few minutes. Won't get it all finished but at least it's a start.

  18. Went through a few things this morning and now just debating heading out to Kroger to return that cough syrup.  Then back home to work on bedroom closet some more. Want to totally empty the closet and debate painting it or not. Really not in the mood to paint. But will see what happens there.  Going to look into closet organizers as soon as I figure out a few things. It is a walk-in closet so just need to figure out the best way to utilize it. It has 2 shelves that go all the way around the closet. So does have good storage space if I can utilize it the right way.

Miki, we must have been typing at the same time.

Yes, I can't wait for them to call him into boot camp. Just hope his parents come here to send him off. I don't like the idea of where I may have to drop him off at a bus station. Not the safest place to be.

I know he will do well once he gets settled in there. I think they will give him a 2 or 3 week leave after boot camp and then off to CA for 3 months of school. Unless he changes his mind on what he wants to do in there. Then he would be shipped off elsewhere. Told him to live on base that would be free for him, and he can get those bills paid off quicker that way.

Wish I had 70* weather today. I want to finish stacking the wood. I need to get the rest of it off my driveway.

  19. Haven't had that issue here yet but sure it's going to trickle down the pipes soon enough. I forgot about my Kroger trip to return that cough syrup that was recalled. So might do that tomorrow. Might go by back to take out a bit of cash as I don't use a credit card for food either. Though I am now taking more precautions after the old e-mail and my credit card issue. GS has lost his ever-loving pea picking mind. He just ordered Suchi at the cost of $60. Glad he thinks money grows on trees. He best learn to make it at home.

  20. That is great Mommato3boys. I am still debating a part time job just for something to do. Not that I don't have enough to keep me busy but that is all at home stuff. Part time job would at least get me out of the house for a bit. Won't do it though until they call GS into Coast Guard. He saw his recruiting officer today. They wanted the physical copy of his labs so had to in to see the recruiter. So now it will be a wait and see. Recruiter has to send it to the asmac place in Petersburg. From there I think they will call him to go there to take the test and get the physical. Right now, he is nerve wrecked about the traffic issues. People speeding, running red lights, you name it. Said he was almost hit twice. He's not a happy camper right now.  But now he knows why I want to move out of this area. That is just one of a couple of reasons.

I forgot to mention eggs are already going up in price. As to how fast they will keep going up I don't know. But since the price of eggs are going up and we don't know for how long. I got an e-mail for the oval easy eggs from Plesant Hill Grain. So ordered to cans with a promo code Eggs25. I will pull out the oldest of those and put these back for another time when they arrive. Will use those depending on how bad the egg situation gets. Just trying to keep ahead of inflation.
