Thank you all for the prayers--they were answered for us because our grandchildren are safe. The other familys were not so fortunate. We can continue to pray for them all.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you ---have a wonderful day with the people (and animals) that you love !!

I just made a batch of cranberry orange sauce today, and mine was ok, no hard seeds. I live near an Ocean Spray plant, and I am in cranberry country.

Hi Carie---I grow garlic. I plant it in the fall (mid sept-mid oct) and I harvest it in july/ august. It has a very long growing season. I don't think you will have success with growing it in a pot. It really likes the good ol ground. A full sun area.

Consider it done ! --- prayers are with her.

Are you kidding -------this is a great place to be !!!!!!!!!

We live in a double wide. It is not new(1971) But over the years it has gone thru several remodels. It now has an insulated metal roof, all paneling inside was removed and it was insulated and is sheetrock and textured. A wood stove ( make sure you follow the codes for a mobile home installation). It basically does not look like a mobile home inside. The outside also was sided. For insurance purposes, we had tie downs installed for wind and earthquakes. We have never had an issue with mice (we sealed everthing we could). We also have never had the pipes freeze. We also have not used electric heat for 15 years. It is cozy, warm and we love living in the woods.
I do think they require as much inspection and maintenance as a stick built home. Keeping it clean and livable is not that hard. It is very affordable, and it's just the two of us.

Tis the season---so I started my holiday baking. Trying to rotate my stores. Found canned pumpkin and made 8 loaves of pumpkin pound cake in nice paper wrappers for taking with me at the holiday time. On to cookies next.

Well, welcome back !!

I think that people who have not grown up camping, fishing and hunting really don't have an understanding of the woods. There is a certain amount of common sense and respect that you need when you live in the woods. Knowlege is power and alot of people are clueless. They are use to the creature comforts of a neighborhood where people are all around. Solitude scares the heck out of most people and puts them out of their comfort zone.

I have now been baking this bread for 8-1/2 years ! I bake it outside on my gas bbq. I can get the temp up to 450 quicker. My bbq is a double walled stainless steel so it can really hold a good temp consistently. I also vary the recipe and add some whole wheat flour cinn. and dried fruits. I also grow garlic, so needless to say---I make garlic bread. It is now the only bread that we eat. I make three loaves every other week. Makes great toast.

These are really nice. I keep all three flavors in my pantry. Ya never kn ow when you will run out of fresh, so these are a good back-up. I have also used them after storing them for 2 years, and they are just fine.

We had our first frost last weds. All of our wood is put up for the next 2 seasons. Fired up the wood stove last week and do a small fire in the mornings. We have not run our electric furnace at all---in 13 years.

The problem with the grill is---you cannot keep and maintain an acurate temp. They go up & down, so it would be risky.
-
I have used them after 3-4 years, and they are just fine.

This brought back a memory to me from long ago. I was married back in 71. We took the cake top off and wrapped it up to freeze for our 1st anniversary. On our annivesary we carefully took it out and let it thaw. After dinner, I set out two plates and went to cut two pieces----to my surprise, it was frosting over styrofoam !!!!! We never laughed so hard. It took up so much space in our tiny freezer for a year !

Dee------Very nice !

Please keep in mind that when you "build up fences" around you---people get more curious about you. Don't do anything that makes you stand out. They start having "adverse" thoughts about you. Try to stay low without drawing any attention to yourselves until you can get out of there.

We seal all holes around the house and garage with steel wool. Especially around the garage doors. It really helps keep them out. I also planted mint around the garage. We are also lucky to have a good little "mouser" living with us.

Rural living in Wa.state---- I love not looking at neigbors houses, love seeing the stars at night, love the trees & wildlife and mostly--the peace and quiet of the woods. My "road trips" are 30 minutes away--to Costco. It is good here.

We are now in the upper 50s out here on the coast of Wa. A light drizzle today and tomorrow. Kind of a nice break. I had to put a sweater on.

Wow !!! you are not going to belive this, but I have had that same reoccuring dream most of my life. I have never known why. But in my dream, I could not come up with the right combination to that locker ! I have never even heard anyone talk about a dream like that. I was in my 20s when I started having it. It comes back now and then to taunt me. I am almost 60, so it is here too stay. ---So Jeepers, you are not alone ! - Cheryl
