  1. I was shown the site by my supervisor who has links to other sites like owls and other animals. It intrigued me enough to check it out and I think it's a great site. We have a couple of peregrin falcons in our downtown area and they definitely keep the pigeon population in check.
  2. You're doing the right thing Hillbillee. The schools want you to be accountable for what and how your child learns at home and I think it's about time they became accountable for how and what a child learns in school. To expand on what Cat said. Set up an email account she can use to send and receive the homework, but only you know the password. Be there to log into the account so she can download her homework then close it down and the same when she is sending in the completed work. That way she can't use it for anything else and it will at least solve the one headache with the school.
  3. There is a wonderful peregrin falcon site on the internet at Peregrin Falcon Website It has information on peregrin falcons and a gallery of images, but the best part is several webcams set up inside and near a peregrin falcon nestbox near the top of the Kodak building in Rocheste, New York. Each year you can watch the Falcons lay their eggs, the eggs hatch, the birds grow from just born to when they take off on their own. They even show the banding process when the baby birds are old enough. Definitely a site for the whole family.
  4. I thought it would be a good thing if we post our tips, tricks and suggestions that will help anyone doing genealogy research, especially the first timer. My first suggestion is get a small portable tape recorder and plenty of tapes. Then go to each member of your family (brothers, sisters, parents, grand parents, aunts, uncles, etc...) and ask them what they remember about family mamebers and what stories thay have heard. You may get some insight or information not in the records and the stories can help you understand more about your ancestors and the lives they lived.
  5. Yes HappyGirl, I made all the images in the galleries on my site myself with several different programs, and I'm happy with most of them though some I need to work on more.
  6. I tried Brothers keeper some years ago but didn't like it so I tried family tree maker and have stuck with it. I generally save the latest copy of the data file to a floppy disk in case something happens to the computer or the software. Regardless of what software you decide on, make sure it can export in gedcom format since almost all of the programs can read that file type and it makes sharing between people with different programs so much easier.
  7. Well Caveman you are technically correct but Lois is correct that they are computer generated, and that was the trick part. They don't exist except in my imagination and I brought them into being, so to speak, with one of my hobbies...Creating computer generated images.
  8. Guess where these images are. Yes this is a trick question. Image 1 Image 2
  9. Here are three my mother told me long ago and one I learned from a classmate in high school 1) What is usually eaten at breakfast, sometimes eaten at lunch and usually drunk at dinner
  10. Quote: 1) What can't you eat for breakfast? ANSWERS IN A FEW DAYS!! 1 - map 2 - time 3 - the letter t 4 - there are only nine horses, number 9 is pregnant 5 - supper

    WINNER'S LIST...

    Congratulations to the winners.....
  14. What is the most unusual first name of any of your ancestors you uncovered in your research? For me it's: Orange
  15. If you have downloaded the trees from the site they would be stored as files on your computer. You can send them in a couple of ways. If the person you are sending them to has Family Tree Maker: If the file is not too big send it as an attachment to an email message. If the file is too big then copy it to a 3 1/2" Diskette and send that to them. If the person you are sending them to does not have gfamily tree make: Upload the file into family tree maker then export it as a Gedcom file. Then send it in one of the two ways listed above. NOTE: Gedcom files can be read by almost all Familt tree programs on the market.
  16. and she thought Cappy would be mad
  17. You wouldn't have to have a home page, but you do need some location on the internet you can upload images to. Your best bet right now, at least till you get your own "place" on the internet would be to do as Caveman suggests and email the image to him.
  18. I can vouch for that. Actually she's as much a lover as a fighter.
  19. Looks like you're trying to get the picture/image to post from your hard drive. That's not something that can be done. The image would first have to be uploaded to someplace on the internet, then you can link to it and it will show in your post.
  20. @snapshotmiki, It's a shame you don't have a digital camera. Then you could upload images from the different places you stop at and it would be like we were right there with you

    Hi

Thanks, The sig is something I threw together in about 5 minutes, but I like it.
  22. This is very easy. I'LL start with the first few words or sentence of a story and each person that posts will do then next few words or another sentence. It's a lot of fun Once upon a time.
